Sam's Guyish hair cut.

Since I live in the US and I don't have showtime and we are still at season 3 reruns. I have to download the episodes. I just saw "the light" and WOW, she looks like a dyke. She reminds me of my 7th grade Gym Teacher. (shutters)

Rotflmao....... It's all that testosterone put out by 'dishy' Daniel with his blue eyes, sexy hands and Bandana (I can tell you that the drool on the Daniel thread is overflowing!), Jack and his gung ho soldier guy and Teal'c and his stalwart stoicism.

Poor little Sam, basically she's turning into a bloke! I thought that as well she dioesn't come over as relaxed and feminine at all. She looks like a pretty boy. Even when a guy chats her up she reacts with almost male hostility! No wonder she doesn't have a boyfriend if she treats all guys who chat her up like that!

LOL.

Mind you since every man that chats her up is either a military Colonel who is her boss, or some dodgy alien, I guess she's probably right to react in that way. But she won't be right ALL the time!

Yes, she looks better with longer hair, it softens her face up a little and brings out her better features.

i too liked her hair of season 3 adn was even getting used to the hair of early seasn 4...but a lot of fans were quite harsh about it. there were whole threads on how bad it looked so...i think she got it cut short as a 'fine , see how you like this' move. (i don't know for sure, i'm just guessing)
she did say she was going to do somethign 'sassy' with it.

what can i say, i know which style i prefer but she does have to have it regulation short...when she was growing it out in season 4 she was trying to make sam more feminine...and was flaunting on the edged of military regs...so she got it cut real short.

and when you add to that she's lost a few pounds (just stick in a season 1 tape and see if you agree iwth me) it does change her appearance significantly

as long as she's happy with it, i'll live with it.

now if we can just get RDA to get rid of those beanie hats of his.....

I agree with ya sky. I loved her s3 and early s4 hair. it was such a nice length. i remeber how sad i was to see it short again.
I also think she had nice hair in POV (major not dr. carter).
I read somewhere that the military advisors for the show told her to cut it because it was military regulation length. and being the fantastic actress she is, she complied. but she definetly did go too short, her hair in BTS was horrible.

The beanie is cute sometimes, but did he HAVE to wear it through the entire episode of The 5th Man. :laugh2:

You might find that the 'beanie' is actually a balaclava. Special ops will often wear them to hide their face during a mission and then roll them up into the beanie shape. They're probably trying to make a point about the special ops aspect of his character by using his wardrobe.

in some cases that is true. but it doesn't explain the beanie in BTS, WoO or Ascension. this last year RDA has seemed to develop a fascination with those hats...i personally much prefer his nice non regulation baseball cap.

jack in the baseball cap is DEFINETLY the better of the two. it suits him better.
they wore benies in the s1 cliffhanger as well, but i guess that is an exception.

Sam's hair was pretty in D+C but I doon't like her new haircut. I agree, she totally looks like a boy. Does ne1 no if there r regulations on how long ur hair can b in the military? It seems a bit OTT 2 have regs about hair length (unless ur hair is below ur waist) and I certainly think that shoulder length is acceptable. Maybe she did it so that Jack would stop staring at her all the time and they wouldn't get into trouble!

rowan would know the regs for sure but i believe it is off the collar without having to be restrained. janet's is longer now and you'll notice she puts it up now.

in sam's case, shorter would be easier. i mean if they go on a several day off world trip, imagine managing longer hair when you can't wash it for days?

As I recall when I was in the military was that hair was not to touch the back of the collar. Note: Janet's hair is sometimes long and she puts it up when in uniform.

In Sam's defense, if I gotta spend weeks on a primative planet with no shower convienently around, I'd cut my hair as short as reasonable.

2 weeks in a forest with only cold streams to wash in would make me cut my hair damned fast.

Don't you think ugly is a bit harsh? I mean it's not like this season is the first season she's ever had her hair this short. I personally like it and think she looks a lot better with her hair short than she did with it long in season 4. Not many women can pull off having hair that short and I think she pulls it off very well.


Could someone tell me what a "beanie" hat is??

Hair Cuts and Beanies

I LOVED Sam's extra short hair! The long hair (POV) was just too weird. The BTS hair was the best!! I loved it! Did I point out i loved it?
It looked silly when it got longer. So she looks boy-ish! There is the practicality thing too. But I just Luuuurve the short hair - I want my hair like that! But I don't think it would suit my face.

And as for the beanie/balaclava - I have an explaintion for that!

Kurt Russel went to visit the SG-1 set (Just in case u didn't know, he was Jack in the Movie). RDA commented about KR having such strong hair, all his own etc (it was elvis-ised at that point in time). But he was wearing the B/B thing in the clip, so I'm guessing it was around the time Jack wore it for 3 eps in a row.
I think RDA got really selfconcious about his hair going grey etc, and covered it up for a while! Wish he wouldn't, I like the grey, myself.

about the closest thing i can come up with for the baclava would be a stocking cap, one that fits real close to the head

as for a beanie...well think of a yamulke (the jewish headwear the men wear) but make it bigger so it covers more of hte head not just the little bit.
it's a rimless hat like if you put a bowl on your head, usually very colorful

kay, well - i have no problem with the beanies or the haircut rite now.

but back in the begining of season four. OMIGODDDD. i am sooo glad she cut it. i espcially remember the scene in Divide and Conquer (?) where jack is saying that he wouldn't leave Carter yadda yadda and sam is there with that "omigod" look. her hair is sooo scruffy i can't get over it. even i would have brushed it better (and tht is saying sumthing).

as to AT's hair in the current season (that would be 5) and the end of season four. i love it. i think it suits her and believe it or not she is still pretty feminine (espcially in the eppie Ascension) and also in BDU's (but hey wot sould i know - too busy drooling over danny in the bandana and then there's jack..mmmmm)

as for the beanies - you guys will criticise anything won't you? i got no prob widdem.

Yes I agree with Jaxie that Sam's hair in D & C was messy and she wouldn't have got it through regulations. I found during my army service that women either wore their hair very short, like hers, or long enough to put up tidily. I had my hair cut short when I knew I was going to the Gulf.

But Sam's hair doesn't look awful short, it just that I feel longer hair suits her face a little better, makes it less angular somehow.

but it's all a matter of taste huh? Amanda obviously likes her hair short and after all, it's her hair!

i loved her hair in episodes like divide and conquer, i think it really suited her, and made her look completely different.
it was really sweet in divide and conquer, in the "flashback" from upgrades, when she and o'neill were looking @ each other, and he shouted "NO!!"

Couldn't agree more Spooky and I love the pic from Window of Op! Her hair was nice in 'In The Line Of Duty' 2 but her nicest hair was in the unseen scenes from Upgrades in D&C.
