5.11: Desperate Measures

And now NID has their very own tame goa'uld, that is just too scary for words.
Now obviously NID didn't read the SG-1 mission report from "Crossroads" or similar - how are they really sure that their Goa'uld is "tame"?

This episode was brilliant!:star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

Sam put up a hell of a fight at the beginning there. That girl can kick some ass when she wants to. Too bad she was outnumbered.

Jack reads National Georgraphic. Cool. :D

I have to say that I was expecting a little more ship then we saw. There was such a build up to it and then not even a friendly little hug (like in Into the Fire) when he saves her.

Maybourne was great! But where did her go? What happened to him? Back to the Caymans? Cool beard too.

I hate that Q guy. But this is a good ep for a progressive story arc in the future.

Well, they do think that they are only one half-step below God himself.....they probably think they are too high and mighty to be fooled by a stupid alien ....

one thing about jack's natl geographics....according to joe mallozzi it was orignailly playboys, but they thought they'd get in trouble for that and changed it to natl geo's instead....

:laugh2: ROTFL!! Well, I think I prefer the Nat'l Geographics...kinda goes along with his interest in astronomy and such :wink2:

and can also be seen as a nod towards the actor's environmental beliefs.

of course do you notice even in natl geos the marked promortion of naked women to men...just like on tv. i mean the guys got nekked shauri...and we ladies have to made due with an occasional shirtless guy...it just IS NOT fair :(

Well apart from thinking I was watching the x files (honestly I got confused for a sec) it was sooo like watching Mulder hunt for Scully, I did like this ep.
Daniels electrocution line was great although this ep definately proved what MS was saying about daniel not really having a role in the conspiracy thing. Come to that teal'c was really just floating around. Did we even see him other than when they went to the hospital??
Th whole shippy thing was a bit of a let down, Jack seemed almost panicked at first and seemed to be willing to do or pay anything to find her. Then when he does all he says is you ok??
maybe it was cos there were other people there??
I would still prefer to see them going thru the gate tho. All these secret meetings and web site hook ups are too much like x files.

Yeah, he just gets them for the articles, yeah right uh huh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Well personally, I think they need to cut the NID/earth conspiracy crap, quite frankly its boring...... yes too much like X Files and not enough about Stargate. They seem to have this idea stuck in their heads at Burnaby..... that's alway supposing they actually DO have anything rattling around in their heads, which I rather doubt somehow.

The episode was well done, but very boring. Even the introduction of the NID's 'pet Goa'uld' did nothing to alleviate the tedium of this episode, and Sam only added to it by being the big brave soldier girl. The only lightening bits in it were Maybourne (always good for a laugh) and a couple of moments with Daniel, who played it for a giggle I think.

Having said that, I truly think that his disenchantment with the road the show's storyline is going down shows and I can't find myself blaming him for ditching Stargate SG1.

They either need to inject it with some nasties and lots of Stargate travel and exploration and menace, or they should just shut the bloody show down. Or perhaps cut Jack out of it a few times...... or something..... anything before I actually fall over and stay asleep forever through the rest of Season 5 and Season 6

I do hope the buggers do read these postings and I truly hope they ignore the constant 'Stargate is wonderful, no matter what scripts they throw at it" adoring cries, which are often patently aimed at the actors and nothing to do with the quality of the show. I hope they do something about a good show that's now a cross between a soap opera and the X Files. I did keep expecting to see Scully and Mulder peeking around the corner.

  :(

That's exactly what I thought, with the conspiracies and alien implantation etc. I was just waiting for Mulder and Scully to arrive. I did like it though! I like the mix of different stories this season, so it isn't always "lets go through the Gate and meet alien of the week."

When Adrian tells Sam what he plans she seemed so cool about it, not "No No No You don't want to do that!" Why didn't she suggest a visit to the Tokra? They seem to know everything about Goa'ulds and Tokra already.

So do you all think Simmonds is Kinseys crony?

oh yeah. simmons doesn't have the moxie to be on his his own. its all some warped plan of kinsey, cause we do know, it's all about him ;)

Hey Skydiver and Dave,
I think it is Kinsey also! But I think that the conspiracy is going to be wrapped in going through the gate... I think the Tok'Ra will get involved somehow.... whether this gate or the Russian one...

Back 2 skydiver's earlier comment - yum! Jack in that bullet-proof vest was a pleasent surprise indeed! If only he had been shot in the chest then Sam would have had an excuse 2 look 2. And for the record I don't think that he should have sleeves on his vest!

...I NEVER thought I'd say this...but this seasons eps are dull & boring
:( :( :( I miss lots of action and running around...:D :D

Aphrodite....... I don't think you should be concerned at feeling like this. I often feel that the Stargate viewer/fandom is firmly divided into two camps - those who loved the eerie menace of the alien/historical/anthropological/origins of human race and the way the Stargate itself linked it all into a viable sort of explanation for many of the things that we as human beings on this planet question and are curious about.

However, the other faction, whilst also perhaps being sub-consciously attracted to the same things, have chosen to focus nearly all their attention on the characters. To the extent where the personal desires of the fan have now polarised into a straighforward 'Jack versus Daniel' notion, as witnessed on other threads. Or even RDA versus MS, which is even worse.

And the assumption by fans that these men are some sort of superhuman, wonderful people who don't put a foot wrong or get mad or even do something as simple as take a dump or fight with their wives (or partners) is extraordinary. For all we know, these guys could be the type who beat up their partners (not that I am saying they are, however you cannot make the assumption that someone is a nice person from the only vantage point of a public persona. They are obviously going to try to appear to be nice people in public!). I find this kind of blind hero worship to be banal and pointless. And one of the reasons that Stargate has turned into a soap opera.

And while I agree that the show would just be some sort of documentary on the possibilities without the characters who are necessary for us to relate to all of this, there has been a distressing tendency for the Stargate people, whether it be MGM, RDA & his co producers, writers and or the cast to some lesser degree, to slowly change the original concept of the show to focus almost entirely on these characters, to the detriment of all other storylines.

And this is, I feel, to a great extent why MS decided to leave at this point. He feels it too I think. That the show is slowly becoming obsessed with earth based conspiracies, and they provide us with the Goa'uld loose on earth concept as a sop, which is pretty boring to say the least.

The fact is that we, as a society, are (or should be) well aware that conspiracies exist in abundance on our planet. We know that agencies exist which have their own agenda under the loose protective umbrella of government authorisation and funding. And that these agencies will act out their own agendas whether we like it or not. If anyone doesn't know this, then they need to crawl out of their cave and smell the coffee.

What we don't want is shows constantly reminding us of something we live with day in and day out. Stargate originally took us out of our planet and ourselves, in a way that relates to us here in the present day (unlike Star Trek, Farscape etc who take us into the future and/or fantasy land). It made the notion accessible to us as normal folk. And this is (or was) the great attraction of Stargate..... and it's why so many mourn the passing of the horrific menacing enemy (the Goa'uld), the exploration and adventures on other worlds and the interaction with other races.

Instead all we have now is a sort of X Files spin off.

If this show wishes to go out with a bang instead of a whimper, it needs to stop listening solely to the soap opera, hero worshipping side of the Stargate fandom and start to focus on regaining some of the original concept and thrust of the show.

I certainly have found this season's episodes, so far, to be entirely unmemorable and didn't even stop playing Diablo 2 Expansion Pack to actually watch any of them. The TV just chuntered away to itself in the corner and occasionally I glanced up to check what was happening. And the funny thing was that no matter what point I entered into the episodes I still found them a yawning bore. However, my Paladin is now up to level 84 in Hell!!!

I am disappointed in the focus the show now has of earth based conspiracies. But I am sure that the hero worshippers among us are just loving it simply because their heroes are in it.

Whether it sucks or not.

;)

Isn't the real problem here that they did the "Gou'ald Invasion force heads to Earth for a "ID4"-like confrontation" story too early in the show (they did it twice if you include "There but for the grace of God". They could instead have built up to it, for a final cataclysmic last season finale.

How can you top that kind of scenario for excitement? You must instead look to other avenues - hence the "replicators" and "Goa'ulds loose on Earth" stories.

Yes indeed........ it has always been my opinion that the Stargate producers etc have actually handled the storylines and storyarcs very carelessly. Everyone waxes enthusiastically about how much RDA (for example) cares about what the fans think, I think he even said so in an interview. However, I think that like most American TV show people, they only hear what they want to hear and the fans they listen to have made it quite clear that the character development, earth based storylines etc are what they actually want. This is because most of these fans have a yen for either the principal actors or the characters they play. Which then turns the Stargate concept into a vehicle for four characters only. The fans love the characters and therefore love almost anything as long as they are featured prominently in it.

Whether the episode sucks or not.

In any case.... I respectfully disagree with you on one point. Yes, you are right in that they have done the 'major attack on earth by the Goa'uld' bit before (and too early)..... however, This attack on earth only came from one quarter.... that of our friend Apophis, who with a bit of luck, has finally and completely bitten the dust. Theoretically, there would be quite a few equally powerful Goa'uld who really could launch of full scale attack on earth and probably win.

I'm sorry Dave...... in many ways I agree with you, but this still does not make up for the fact that Stargate has now become a crashing bore. I just can't find myself getting enthusiastic about Colonel Simmons, his pet and captive Goa'uld Adrian, Myabourne and Jack's verbal sparring, Sam and any more views of her house and fan's quilts on the wall or, god help me, Daniel ascending to a higher plane.

If I want to look at boring and normal.... all I have to do is look in the mirror and at my own life, I don't need to waste the electricity it takes to run the TV or the time it takes to watch something which I now use as moving wallpaper while I work at the computer or read a good book.

 ;)

5.11 Desperate Measures

Now this one I also liked.
I have to say I think that season five is getting better....:D

I thought that Sam kicked ass in the begining..good on her :D

The story line was good and seeing Maybourne back is always a good thing, he is the kinda guy you love to hate plus when him and Jack are together its always fun.
Jack giving his National Geographics to that homeless guy was sweet..I didn't think he would have brought them back. ;)

So I wonder whats gunna happen with the gou'ald that the NID now have....and when that story line will come out :p
Plus I didn't really think that the Gou'ald would have gone with Colonel Simmons???

Didn't see much of Teal'c..I think he had about three lines all the way through.
Daniel gave some good lines...liked the one in the hospital...very funny :D

Hmm, I can see why MS thought that the lot was too earthbound...

But I think that it could only have been a matter of time before Goa'ulds started to trickle onto Earth...

I enjoyed this one as well - love it when Harry Maybourne turned up. I agree he is the man you love to hate !

Thinking about it, I can see why the Goauld went with Simmonds. He was kind of surrounded and probably not too strong, what with having to fix the crappy body he had just got into and all.

And friends, how many of us did not see the old 'its ok I'm in control of this goauld so untie me' (then'll I'll kick your ass) thing coming !! duh, that was a bit bleeding obvious !

Its going to be interesting to see how this story arc unfolds

Still, tomorrow night - the 100th episode - Wormhole Extreme. I hope it lives up to its hype :rolly2:
