5.15: Last Stand

oh & a last thought, maybee they took all the powe sources out of the zats to make the naquida generators or what ever.

I think that the writers decided it was too much trouble to take notice of continuity from former episodes and it didn't suit the storyline for SG1 to collect up the weapons and take them all home for storage in an armoury.

Sam doesn't take the healing device because it would be too convenient to have her healing folk all over the place because then it wouldn't suit the storyline if someone, like Elliott was condemned by the writers to die because it WAS in the storyline!

They don't take the sarc's they find because well..... then they would be able to use that as well and it wouldn't suit the angsty storylines where someone is near death. After all, if they did have one then.........

they would be able to use the damn thing to revive Daniel, then he wouldn't die and need to ascend in the first place!

In reality. If SG1 and the SGC existed they would be collecting all kinds of weaponry like crazy.....some would go for back engineering, as would the sarcophagus and the teams would be armed with both conventional weapons and zats.

What can I say? This is not reality and any discussion over why they do or don't do something is our imaginative conjecture.

LOLLOL! And this isn't an imaginative congecture!

Last Stand Ending (SPOILER!!)

First and foremost, I'm not a new fan to SG. Rather, a new member to this site.

I believed that Last Stand should have ended on a better note. Can't I see Lt. Eliot/Lantash save the day? How does that work? No doubt, I'm not a producer/director/or actor by trade, but I am a fan.

The bottom line is that this is a great episode. Lots of flashes, weapons use, and techo jargon that kept me away from reading articles for school. Keep the good work.

Let me guess...Canadian! Hidy-ho, what part of the country are you? I'm in BC.:rolly2:

My personal opinion is, Why bring back characters when you're just going to kill 'em off again? What's the point? They just don't want to sacrafice anyone important?

Some thoughts...

I'm from Toronto, Ontario ~ the home of the Blue Jays and the Leafs. This is straight out of left field, but I'm not leaf fan.

In respect to your opinion, that's extactly what I'm saying. Who's in it to say that your in this episode, but we have to let your character die. Gee, I enjoyed watching Lt. Eliot's character on any SG-Team. I believe that he's has what it takes to be a great soldier. Now by the writers killing or writing off Colonel Maybourne, they would made his character more respectable etc.

Just a few thoughts....hmmmm

YAY another Torontonian!!! 'twas born in TO, came out here for school. Still here. The Blue Jays played their very first game at Exabition Stadium the day before I was born. It snowed. The doctor told mum not to dare to have me casue he wanted to watch the game. I arived promptly at 6:15 the next morning, very hot day, presumably by a hung over doctor...no wonder it took them a while to get me breathing! Oh & leave Maybourne alone, he's starting to grow on me...him working with Jack.

I really enjoy this episode, but also think I would like to see Elliot/Lantash final action. I really don't like the idea of Elliot been killed so fast, I really enjoy his character. But is you're going to kill him, let me at least see his final heroism. :(
I really enjoy the goauld's reunion and Daniel spying in it. :D Definitely a good episode.

Krystal :p

I think sometimes, if done corectly, ending a story when the "hero" is about to save the day inspire the imagination. Maybe this was inspired by budget? I would like to have seen the lieutenant in more action, but if not that, I would like to have Jack say something to him before they left like "Hey! Thanks, we appreciate it," or "Wow, this sucks for your first time out" or something more than an expression (but obviously more appropriate than above suggestions. :p

The whole "eating of the snake" thing was a touch much for me. Other than that I enjoyed the episode. I particularly liked the scenes Jack, Teal'c and Tok'ra tunnel-diggin' crystals.

Being the moderator of Season 5, and considering that season 5 is now being aired in the US, albeit very belatedly, I have found the lack of postings and arguments from our US colleagues rather fascinating. Where before there would be countless postings, arguments, counter arguments, theories and opinions abounding, I find now that there are a couple of very desultory postings and certainly no vibrant discussions as there would have been before.

Is it just that most of the US fans downloaded the 'squinty-vision' files provided by the SG1 Archives, or maybe that with the impending end of the series after Season 6 and the fact that perhaps many of the 'fans' were actually Daniel or Michael Shanks fans has led to most of fickle fandom disappearing off to pastures new. I say this not to offend, but it's merely an observation of other series which have come to an end and the same thing has happened.

I am surprised because of the passionate, almost hysterical, response to the series and it's four principal characters. Not to mention the screaming hysteria I have witness at three conventions.....Gatecon, SG3 and SG4.

Is fandom really that shallow, shortlived and fickle? I know for me as a writer, the show has opened up amazing imaginative avenues and I am grateful to it and the producers and actors for doing that.

But then, I don't consider myself to be a fan in the strictest sense of the word.....I just like watching the show and view it in the light of the whole, rather than the percentage which surrounds the fab four and their lives and loves.

To answer the posting about the symbiote eating scene. It is my very strong belief that it was done for shock value.....to make the fandom hate the already one dimensional enemy even more and consider them with disgust. As if they needed to do that! Making them even more abhorrent to the fans makes it easy for the Producers to advocate the enemy's complete annihilation and I suspect that this is where Season Six will head. However this is just my personal viewpoint.

Missing Discussions

I don't know Anni, maybe you are right. It is quiet.

I know I saw all the eppies on teenyvision- put my two cents worth in here and there- so watching the extra-large size versions on Showtime now is just easy and enjoyable; I've been talked and commented out. Seems like a lot has been said already. Plus, this is term paper and test season in many US colleges - doesn't leave much time for online diversions.

As for fickle fandom: Every fan is different, once we can define "fan". We all have our own styles. I have friends who were intense fans and now couldn't care less. Others seemed pretty moderate all along. Some still like it but aren't glued to their chairs any longer on Friday night.

Me, I'll watch season 6 when I can.

well I am one of the unfortunate ones who has only seen half of S5 on tv & the other half once each on the "mini screen". Since I changed jobs I haven't been able to download them again so I have to wait 'til they decide to show em in Canada. I put in my 2 cents earlier & now I only have a vague rememberance of teh second half of S5 so I have to wait 'till they finally air in order to comment on them...& actually see all all of them & not fuzzy images on a computer screen. :(

Yes - I'm looking forward to see the full-size version of Menace which is the one I most enjoyed of season 5.

That's the one dealing with the .....spoiler........
replicators right? I liked that one too.

Hello fellow Canadians!!! Hey Skoon, depending on where in B.C. you live you might be able to got the channel CHBC. They are currently showing season 5 at nine o'clock on Mondays. Right now we're on "the Fifth Man"

P.S.
On what episode does Jack say "Ah, yes, the sound of the other shoe"?
I liked Maybourne. He was evil, but he was funny. He was actually a lot like Jack. THat's kinda why they were so much fum together- the same personality but with different choices that they made.

Hi guys......

Just a gentle reminder that this thread is meant to be for discussing the episode! Menace also has its own thread and for more opinions on that episode you might want to visit it!

;) :D

Cool Episode

That was one really amazing episode! Lots of action, great story and lots of surprises. I thought Daniel was going to wind up having to avoid becoming a host, but was totally unprepared to see the Goa'uld eating the symbiotes!

The Teltac crash was pretty cool too and it was nice and long! As for the ending, I was surprised by the abruptness of it. I was expecting to see SG-1 have to fight their way back to the gate. But when the end credits started rolling all of a sudden, I really was left thinking "What, that's it?" Don't get me wrong, it was a great episode, I'd just have preferred a completed ending.

As for Zipacna, I didn't even realise it was him at first. Thank goodness he's changed his wardrobe. He looked like a tropical transvestite last time!

It was the hat........ the guy obviously has some serious headgear issues!
