A Game Of Thrones: The Movie

I agree completely that you can't load up on stars for a real movie, but if my list was:

Ned - Viggo Mortensen
Cersei - Barbara Schoenhofer
Littlefinger - Timm Meyers
Catelyn - Joan Moore
Stannis - Damien Garcia
Theon - Greg Peterson

Who are these actors? Just friends of mine, all except for Viggo. Again, except for Viggo, they are almost unknown.

How about these real nominees...
Ser Dontos - Ted McGinley, from Happy Days and Married, With Children infamy.
Jeor Mormont - Fred Gwynne, he's a lot more than just Herman Munster.
Jorah Mormont - Sean Bean.

Dead thread, I know, but I didn't want to get panned for starting a new one...

Agree about Fred Gwynne. He's totally Lord Mormont. Here are my suggestions:

Maester Aemon - Anthony Hopkins (heavily made up)
Tywin Lannister - got got got to be Alan Dale (Caleb Nicol from OC, Bradford Meade from Ugly Betty, Vice President in West Wing)

Alan Dale as Tywin is an inspired choice! good one seb
Anthony Hopkins would be better used in a different role, should he ever 'deign' to appear in a film like this. Varys perhaps, or Barristan Selmy

I was browsing the movies at Target the other day... and I saw Shae.

I was looking for a birthday present for a friend, when I found a double feature Big Trouble in Little China/Flight of the Phoenix. Never saw Phoenix, but I loves me some Big Trouble! Anyway, that's beside the point...

Shae was on the cover of some Dukes of Hazzard direct to video release. Anyway, Shae was standing with her back to the camera and looking back over her shoulder while wearing her best Daisy Dukes.

<Boaz's adolescent fantasies start up again.>

Sorry.

I'm not saying she's gorgeous, I'm just saying she's Shae.

IMDB says her name is April Scott. I don't know if she can act, but from the fact that she's in some Dukes remake of a remake I'd guess not.

Dwayne Johnson is physically imposing. He'd make a good Drogo.

From those pics... the hair looks like Drogo's... Johnson and Michael Clarke Duncan are both massive, but compared to each other they look normal.

Alan Dale is a great Tywin!
Boaz! It is Shae! What an inspiration for me to draw her , thanks!

I will also agree with The Rock as Drogo. When I first started reading this series he was the first person that came to mind, he has the perfect physical traits for Drogo.

I agree about the Rock. He'd have to have a beard though, wouldn't he? I can't remember if Khal Drogo was clean shaven or not...

I was also thinking...

Jeremy Irons as either
-Aeron Damphair, or
-Stannis Baratheon

I think he'd make a great Damphair.

seb, I'm thinking Drogo was clean shaven.

As for Jeremy Irons, I think he's not big enough to play one of the Greyjoy brothers. But I think if he shaved his head, he'd be great as Tywin or Stannis, especially Tywin. Then again, he could do Oberyn, Littlefinger, or Roose easily.

I dismiss the idea of Jeremy Irons as Tywin out of hand! Haha, only because I can only see Tywin as Alan Dale.

I see Littlefinger as a slightly (only slightly, mind) smaller than the average man, with dark hair and a face a lot less gaunt than mr Irons. I'll need to meditate on this further, I find it very interesting to attempt to match ASoIaF characters with their real-world counterparts. Has anyone come up with a decent Cersei yet?

Definetly The Rock as Drogo, the old guy from The OC as Tywin. Hmmh who would be a good Cersei? Hard question.

Clean Shaven!?!?!? His hair HAD NEVER BEEN CUT. Requires no further statements.

His hair, not his beard. I can't remember a single refence to a thick, long beard, and I think it would have been mentioned somewhere. I always imagined him clean-shaven, if not naturally without facial hair.

I have to say... i detest Jeremy Irons in fantasy themed films. Dungeons & Dragons and Eragon for instance... he is ghastly in both. No matter how bad a director or script, an actor of Irons supposed talent should be able to still perform... he fails miserably in both - indeed in DnD he was upstaged by Marlon Wayans of all people, and then in Eragon by a CG dragon with Rachel Weisz's voice...
Also, The Rock... he seems far to bulky to play a horseman. Khal Drogo may be huge, but my image of him is more rangy with long arms and legs, strong yes, dangerous looking yes, but not bulky... thats not the type of warrior the Dothraki are... also, i saw them being of more mongol appearance (obviously just bigger), the Rock's polynesian features are almost right... shame about the overly massive musculature..

Eddard Stark - Gary Oldman
Littlefinger - Elijah Wood
Robert Baratheon - Brian Blessed
Tyrion Lannister - Warwick Davis (by default)
Jon Snow - Garrett Hedlund or Kris Lemche
Theon Greyjoy - Christian Slater
Renly Baratheon - Johnny Depp
Bronn - Jason Stratham
(that guy Bronn fights as Tyrion's champion) - Bill Nighy
Jaime Lannister - Josh Lucas
Bryndon Tully - Kris Kristofferson

...Not so confident with some of the later ones there.

I think for HBO to make this series they would have to change some of the characters ages. Half the cast would be children. Jon, Robb, Sansa, Renly/Joffrey/Tommen's wife, Dany, etc. That's an awful lot of minors to be having or almost having sex for American TV. Littlefinger's creepy on the mouth kisses with Sansa, Dany and Drogo, Jon and the wildling girl, the bedding scenes?

Loras is also just a boy. Theon is like 20 I think?

When reading the series, I sometimes forgot how young some of the characters are. If you put them on screen as teenagers the general audience may have trouble becoming interested. The series seems like a very complicated project to bring to the screen and appeal to a mass audience.

Like most here, I would be interested, but HBO wants millions of viewers. I would expect the characters in the script to not be the children they are in the books.

Patrick Stewart for Randyll Tarly without a doubt.

Also there is a British comedian/director/tv show panelist called Andy Hamilton who would make a great Tyrion I think. I've always had him pictured in mind whenever he says something. You can google him for a picture but they don't do him justice really. To know what I mean you have to see him talking so try youtube or something.

Heard a few people suggesting Eric Bana for Eddard Stark but Eddard has a longer, plainer face. Bana would make a better Brandon Stark or something for flashbacks.

I do not believe that Loras and Renly are children but more like young men in their early 20's.

Theon is closer to Robb's age.
