Why not? Do you have a better suggestions?

I have a better suggestion: actors who aren't typecast! I'd rather not watch people I see on tabloid covers playing characters from my favorite series. It would be wounding.

Sorry, but... blech.

How about if we triple-cast Arnold Schwartzenegger as Bran, Tyrion, and Three-Finger Hobb?

Could you imagine the emotional weight behind the scene where Tyrion meets Bran at Winterfell? And I'd pay money to see Arnie cooking up stew for the Night's Watch.

Haha, I'd pay money to see Arnie do anything but what he's doing these days.

I agree, my fellow Californian. Unless it's another "6th Day". You couldn't pay me to sit through that one again.

But I digress.

not too sure about McCounaghey's acting abilities as have never seen any of his films, but he looks like he could be a Jaime in that picture. Maybe it's because he's bold...

I have suggestions, whether they're better or not is purely subjective. See my numerous previous posts on this board.

Sorry if I offended you, but the thought of a Texan drawl, a Ghostbuster and a third-rate Charlie's Angel populating Westeros made me physically ill... Not that I have anything against Matthew McCounaghey or the truly excellent Bill Murray (I do have much against Cameron Diaz, though) I just don't think they'd fit.

I don't understand how A Game of Thrones is "too complex" to do onscreen. The only issue is time, but if you ignore that, then it's very simple: follow the novel's order of events almost exactly. (And by the way, that first scene with Royce is SUCH a good opening scene. Directly after it ends, go black, and bring the title to the screen. brilliant, Brilliant!)

By the way, Bryce Dallas Howard would make an excellent Daenerys: she's a phenomenal actress, but not really well known, so we could see "Dany" and not, say, "Nicole Kidman."

It would be easier as a TV show, but not near as cool. I want to see ASoIaF on the big screen!

HBO would be my choice, a mini-series on each book.

Plus you gotta remember Jon and Rob are like 14-16 years old.
I hate when 30 somethings play teenagers.
Ron Pearlman as the Hound

The really interesting thing about this post is how totally different we all imagine the characters. I disagree about Jaime being Brad Pitt, I see Jamie as a smooth cheeked pretty boy with a more feminine look about him, a narrower jaw, Ryan Phillipe type. You also have to take into account Cersei and he look very alike.

Yes, that might be correct. How about Collin Farell as Theon? And maybe Eliza Dushku as Lyanna?

Colin Farell? Are you serious? Not only is he in rehab, he's a d*ck and he can't act. And Brad Pitt as Jaime? Not a chance in heck.

I knew this thread would eventually show up here, but it ain't gonna work. Martin said the chances of this happening are slim to none; only a maxi-series like Sopranos or Rome (etc) would come close and then only maybe. That would be LIVE ACTION too folks - not any of that anime/final fantasy crap. We're talking about GRRM - not Pokemon.
-g-

I'd like to see Benicio Del Toro as the Hound. He's a big guy, can be intimidating, but also has that tortured "angsty" sort of introspection that Sandor would need.
So long as Orlando Bloom had no part in it whatsoever, I'd be happy though.

Don't know his name, but Sawyer from Loast is what I envision Bronn to look like only real roughed up looking!

Heath Ledger for Jaime??

I know it seems impossible, but 15 years ago no one thought we would see a live action Lord of the Rings either!

js:)

Strangely enough, when I was watching Narnia at the cinema, I was thinking just how well A Song of Ice and Fire would translate to films. I can't think who would be the best actors, but Martin's a pretty cinematic writer and if he wrote the script for it, it would be an amazing film (he was a TV scriptwriter, so he'd know what he's doing as well).

Hey! First post here! I was cruising around looking for the names of all the factions and a comprehensive map of their locations in the hopes of making a Starcraft Mod(map) of Game of Thrones. Great fan of the books myself. I would like to congradulate you all on the choices, many of which I had coincidentally mentioned to my friends and to my father when musing about the actors in such a film.

Leem Neison- Perfect Eddard Stark. Cold, sophisticated, and deep, not that sharp featured, but meh. Also, great acting abilities.

Bill Nighy- This might be a streach, but I could see him playing Walder Frey. He is very skilled with sarcasm, and an extremely devious look about him. Also, another great actor.

Brian Cox is a brilliant choice for Robert.

As for the Greatjon... Brendan Gleeson?

Edit- Also, I think that Hans Zimmer would be great for some soundtrack as long as he collaborated with someone else to keep him in check.
