Daniel's eyesight in Legacy
Well, being nearsighted myself, and astigmatic in one eye as well, I can tell you that the photographic effects the SG-1 production team did with the padded room scene was *not* what I see with either my simply-nearsighted eye or my nearsighted-with-astigmatism eye.
Strong sedatives can cause halo-ing and blurred vision, in addition to making it difficult to keep your eyes open. I don't know anything about behaviour- or mood-altering medications that Dr. McKinsey might have thought were a good idea for Daniel...
I'm by no means an expert on any of this, including that season's episodes, since I've only seen season one and happened to be at a friend's house yesterday to catch part of Legacy... but haven't some fans speculated that repeated ribboning and/or sarc exposure and/or various alien technology borrowed from and/or inflicted by the Tokra/Tollan/Nox/Asgard/anyone else would be wreaking havoc with Daniel's eyesight? Meaning that an additional reason he has so many different glasses frames (other than breakage or loss on missions, which does happen a lot!) is that his prescription is changing all over the place?
One more thing: note that unless drug dosage is correct for the patient, oddball side effects can occur quite easily. After my sinus surgery, my physician had me take Valium tabs to keep me calm and quiet and resting, but I am apparently hypersensative to that drug, and the standard adult dosage for my bodyweight and type gave me paranoia-like fidgetty and fretting symptoms and I couldn't sleep at all. Per my doctors' instructions, cutting the dosage in half and taking the stupid pills twice as long apart actually gave the desired sedation effect. And various swellings from the sinus surgery did change my glasses prescription slightly for about four months, but it seems to be back where it was before now, a year after the surgery.
Knowing Daniel's luck, he probably has nonstandard reactions to *most* medications...
