Have you stopped reading Wheel of Time?

For me I previously wanted them to just end because the last volumes hadn't really interested me and I really just wanted to see how the story ended. But volume 11 kind of restored some of my faith in the series, so that I find myself kind of looking forward to the final volume.

I haven't really stopepd reading WOT, but i take a month's break before i read the next book .. It's not monotonous that awy and every book is as interesting as the previous one ..

I havn't had it in me to read the last three books, and even before then some of the books were just a pain to drag myself through. I loved the first books though.

I'm afraid I also stopped. I haven't time to read fifty pages of moving a group of aes sedai through a portal. An action that should take one line.

But I did love the first four or five books.

Similarly with Goodkind and even Martin. I can't wait five years for the next book in the series. I'd forgotten virtually everything, and good as his books are I haven't the time to reread them.

I stopped reading them a while ago, but I made it all the way up to the tenth book. It took me that long to realize I didn't like them anymore- I just wanted to know how they ended! The first two? three? were really good, but he needs to learn when to stop! Same with Terry Goodkind. In fact, I often get those two authors mixed up! Their books are very, very similar! Although I have to say, I'm still reading and enjoying George R Martin.

I too have stopped as well at Path of Daggers. I enjoyed reading about Lan - he was my favorite but Nyvanne is really annoying, I can't believe she married him. That kinda dampened my sprits because I liked Lan being mysterious. I didn't like the way Jordan took thirty pages or more just to get these people here or this person in trouble, etc. etc. I really get bored with that kind of stuff. How many ways can you explain the description of a tavern? Jeesh. So yes, I have put down WOT and donated all of my paperback copies of them to my local library. Maybe someone else will enjoy them.

It took me a while to get used to the lengthy descriptive style of the books, but now that I've had a little break from them, I feel I can go back to reading them again.

I cant get past book 5, and i cant even read to the end of it,
i guess i gave up!
ive still been buying them as they come out , for the collection
and incase i decide to go on with them,

and i guess with Robert Jordan being so ill , i should read them
while i can!!

maby i should try starting at book 5 and reading on from there?

Probably not a bad idea. When I first started reading the WoT, I read some of the books out of order, (largely down to the fact that my library only had a few of the books in at any one time), so now that I'm going through the series again it was easier (for me, at least) to pick up the earlier books to read.:)

The only trouble is , that i forget what happened in previous books,

but ill give it a go and see if i can get any further:)

I read up to the book where they cleaned the male side of the power, path of daggers? I can't remember now its been so long I just can't be bothered. No end no reason to read them, too many characters spoil the plot (oh so true in his case)

Have to agree Gothic. Loved the series when I started them - well developed characters - well written - as they went on tho there was too much repetivness, even some of the endings were v similar - dragon need to find way to defeat enemy more powerful and experienced than himself - dragon finds a way. Have the first 10 i think - only read 8 - far to long - think an overall 6 book series would have been brilliant

I loved the books when I first started reading them too. The thing is he's rewritten most of the wheel of time and they're published too. Its so confusing.

To Gothic Angela: Re-written? What do you mean???

To Brightfeather: I hav the same problem with rememberring what happenned in prev books, but i dont mind re-reading them... If your patience is being tried with the length of the books, maybe the "synopsis" (i'm not sure if thats the right word) at the start of the books might be enough to refresh your memory...

I can't remember if ive posted in this thread or not, either way I doubt I'll be saying anything different

I havent stopped reading them but only because I hate not finishing a series once Ive started, Ive certainly come close. After reading the first 4 that were out at the time, I bought the next couple in large format the day I could get my hands on them.

Now I wait until they're in paperback and even then its a case of when I don't have anything else I'm reading and there's nothing much on the shelves.

I will finish the series and then at some point, probably in a few years, I think I'll read the entire series again from start to finish, maybe without the long breaks I'll remember the side characters clearly enough that the later books wont seem so annoying?

I haven't! Still patiently waiting for his next book and will probably try and re-read the series so far, to bring me back up to date.

I stopped in the middle of book six. The characters just became too annoying for me to continue.

I've stopped. Got rid of the books too. After a long, long wait, where he took time off to write a Conan novel, he finally released another WoT book, and Mat wasn't in it. At all.

Like filing taxes, Jordan has taken up and wasted hours of my life that I will never get back.
