Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Yes, I've seen the mini series. I've watched it three times over the years, and have recently begun to be tempted to watch it again.

I liked it a lot. Of course it couldn't make use of the footnotes, so all that was missing, but I felt it did justice to the plot and characters. And the cast was excellent.

I thought the footnotes in " The Amulet of Samarkand " was cute and amusing "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrel" has a ton of them and I think unneeded. They dont help with the story at all. Having said that it still was an enjoyable read. Oh! Even if there were no footnotes this book still required some editing.

WAY past it's sell by date to reply to this but I adore footnotes. One of my all time favourite weird books is Wilson: A Consideration of the Sources by David Mamet which is 90% footnotes, and footnotes to footnotes, and etc. etc. I have read it several times and I am as bewildered by it now as the first time I read it. I have NO idea what it is about (if anything) apart from being a fantastically funny incomprehensible pastiche of every postmodernist pseudo-academic treatise you've ever read attempted to read or thrown across a room. (The world's record for this was set in 1997 when an unnamed English professor at Oxford University successfully threw a copy of Thewlis's Reassessing Realism: The postconceptual paradigm of discourse as resolved in the later works of Fellini. 150 meters. But I digress....

I also liked the mini series. I thought it did provide a different perspective by showing us more of the supporting characters, particularly Arabella Strange, Lady Pole and Childermass.

I found the novel so good, the mini-series didn't quite do it for me, although I enjoyed it. By far the best part of the series for me was Marc Warren's portayal of The Gentleman.

If you that book , a book you might find of interest .:)

Has anyone here seen the mini series ?
I watched it and it was ok, but not great. Some scenes were pretty good, but overall, it seemed off somehow. Can't put my finger on why, though.

I haven't seen a book but did know it came from one.
