Studio Tours

Everyone on the mailing list has just got an email. Due to being an 'unofficial' unlicensed event Gatecon will not be allowed to offer set tours or show the premier of Atlantis.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

On the good side, Chris Judge will be attending.

Never mind, whilst I'm a little disappointed as it's likely to be the only chance I get to visit Vancouver and attend a Gatecon event, it certainly wasn't the only reason I was attending.

Good news about Chris attending.

Keep up the good work guys.

Elaine :p

Of course I know that there are reasons that you can't divulge and all, but it's funny how this year it ain't possible when it was in previous years.

But yeah - I am with Elaine on this one. It certainly wasn't the only reason that I was going, and if anything I am absolutely stoked that Chris Judge is now going to be there! Hee! :D One step away from RDA, eh? *evil wicked grin*

darn i was hoping to go on that tour:( oh well i guess CJ will have to do instead:(:rolly2:

Studio Tours Auction back on!!

From Rich Pasco:

Okay take a deep breath, the rollercoaster ride continues....

....we have just been given the go ahead to reinstate the studio tour for convention Sunday.

Due to the timing and how close we are to the convention, this auction will only run for a week, and will end on a weekday rather than weekend. Apologies for any inconvenience that causes.

Full details at the site but again, due to the timing, we will need payment for winning bids within 24 hours of auction end, and by credit cards only.

IMPORTANT - for those who placed bids when we first tried to run the studio tour auction. Please note that those bids are no longer logged at the site, so you will need to submit fresh bids.

In the (hopefully) unlikely event that the offer of the tour is withdrawn again, winners will be notified before payments are run.

Richard

studio tour

I was just wondering if camcorders are allowed on the studio tours?

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Rowan and Rich Pasco for all y'all have done for this and in keeping folks posted with up to date & current information!!!

:D

in past years you can camcorder and photo yourself to pieces on the tour

i think i have a couple hundred pics

the one thing to remember is to respect the place. don't grab an unofficial souvenir, don't break anything, listen to the tour guides and treat it like you would treat your own house

in previous years, the crew babysitting us have been massively supportive and fun. from what i understand, year 1, hammy's office was off limits since they were shooting there and couldn't risk anyone touching anything and messing it up, but the next year and the year after we were actually invited to sit in hammon'd chair (i'll never forget the look one the sec. guard's face as i stood there and she goes 'sit in the chair and pick up the phone. what? sit in the chiar and pick up the phone....really? and she nodded)

they've turned on the lights for u s in the control room, lit up the chevrons.

ask em questions. i've found that they like to answer them and that it's as much fun for them as it is for us

anyway, in the past we've been allowed to sit in the chairs, get on the ramp, 'open the iris', sit at the control room, lie on the infirmary beds, sit in promie's chair......but the general rule is to treat it with respect. just like you'd expect of someone visiting your home or your office

they gotta work there and if we break something, they gotta answer for it

Skydiver- well put! I might add in addition that the way we treat it just might pave the way for the next year's Con if we have one and subsequent visit to the "Gate Room"....like Skydiver said- we need to treat it like it was ours- it IS ours being we are the fans that have kept SG running for so many years, let's keep the gate going folks.
Thanks for listening to my two-cents worth also.
Harry

Well, it's finally finished, and my god what a frenzy at the end. My friend and I had a limit on what we were prepared to spend, went over that and then still lost the places we had!

Right at the last minute I was pipped to the post of putting a last ditch bid in to get my friend a place, running out of time just as I was about to confirm the bid.

I managed to secure a place, again at the last minute, but am now in two minds whether it's a good thing or bad thing because my friend didn't get a place. Don't get me wrong, like all good friends, she's telling me to go and is pleased that at least one of us should take it, rather than us both missing out. I've been told to get some good photos - hah, fat chance! This being our first, and more than likely, only Gatecon, I suppose I should be grateful that one of us is getting the chance to see the set, I know that I wouldn't want her to give up the chance if I had missed out.

Anyway, to all those that have been successful, congratulations. To those who were pipped to a place, and it would seem there are a lot of people, sorry it didn't work out for you.

We'll see everyone next week - once again, have safe journeys, regardless of how far you are travelling.

I hear ya Elaine...the last 15 minutes I had to bid twice just to keep in the running! Won a spot for my honey and I, so happy- our first time to a con and then to get this icing on the cake!!

Congrats

Congratulations to everyone who got a spot. I was looking at the list and saw a few familiar hands and thought I'd come over to Ascifi to see where everyone was hiding? :rolly2: Anywayway, congrats Elaine and stargazer. I hope you have a great time at Gatecon as well as on the studio tour! :D

If we're on the same bus Elaine I'll come around with you. I bid at 7 last night and watched myself drop from number 14 to 38 before the end. I think there was only about 20 or 30 dollars between were I was and dropping off the end !!!

Thanks Paul, I was wondering who I might be able to ask nicely to take any photos of me!

See you next week.
