Lost: Season 2

The final episode of the first season is shown in the UK on Ch4 this week.

I've been reading lots of speculation on other sites about what is really going on. There is a Channel 4 website called 'Lost: The Untold' that gives extra clues:

http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/L/lost/main.html

There is a Henderson Island in the Pitcairns that matches the officer in charge of the accident investigation into flight 815, James T Henderson. There is also a Henderson Island in the Antarctic, though there are are no Polar Bears in the Antarctic.

Ethan Rom is an anagram of 'other man'. The psychic told Claire her baby could not be raised by 'another'.

Some suggestions have been made that they are not dead (and in Purgatory), but simply that the Island reads minds and makes thoughts and ideas come to life. Think of a guitar and it appears, think of being able to walk again and you can, read a comic book with Polar Bears and they appear. That doesn't explain many other things though. I'm still confused.

From interviews in the Channel4 book and extras on the R1 DVD it would seem the overall mythology is designed to play out for 2, 3 or more series at least, and they planned it that way so there's always more coming...

Absolutely stunning series. It's back in the UK in Spring so not long to wait for the next series. Thankfully! Its so scary though as well! Itis for me anyway...

I don't know what episode is playing over there ( I heard the last one was the one where the audience wants to know whats in the whatchyamacallit?), but over here in the states...

Overall? It gets better... :D

On terrestrial we've just had the end of season double...

So, getting better - wow!!

Wasn't the answer to what's inside the whatchyamacallit a little frustrating? And probably a little predictable too, like we were going to actually find something out at last?

The business with the raft shocked me. I didn't expect that, and I've no idea why, or what happens next.

As FeedMeTV says at least we don't have to wait too long for the Second Season.

Yeah, that's what I find most interesting.

Along with myself and a few others, I've found that a few people are so frustrated with the show that they've given up watching. The whole show started like that... all this hype of "what the heck is happening?!" and at the end of each episode we get a little knowledge. For the most part we find out about these characters; however, also at the end of each episode we find ourselves with more questions and still this nawing question of "what the heck is happening?!"

Frustrating indeed. It seems people are still sticking with it though according to the ratings and media. But how long can the viewers wait? How patient can we really be?

After the last 2 episodes, I'm still on the fense of whether or not I'll keep watching. I'll keep at it every now and then, but if I miss an episode it's not a tragic travisty(sp) or anything. :p :rolly2:

I copied something from Zap2it a few posts back from one of the shows creators, Damon Lindelof. I think from that they are aware of that problem and will not keep us hanging on for ever. It was interesting what he said about Chris Carter and the X-Files because looking back at the X-Files I can see that now and they blame the studio for making him do it.

As for missing an episode, there always seems to be something each week that might just be important. Really stupid little things thrown in at the start became whole subplots later on.

If anyone plays the UK National Lottery (aka Lotto), then this Saturday's draw of six balls included four of The Numbers... 4, 8, 16, 23

Would have won UKP34 (and who knows how much "bad luck"...) ;)

Season 2 (Season 1 spoilers from now on)

Lost returns to the UK soon with the start of Season 2, so anyone know what is going on?

A few theories that have been shot down are here...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_(TV_series)#Discredited_theories

I'm still voting for theory number 1. That was in my first post in this thread. They would have to say that is wasn't true wouldn't they, otherwise why watch any more? I just can't think of another scenario that fits.

If so though, how did the man that gave Hurley the Numbers hear the Numbers on the radio? Unless he had a near-death experience?

tangential rant of sorts

I stopped watching the show mostly because it was slow compared to all the hype it was getting. And then when I tried to catch up I found they were still relatively at the same place when I left - character background/development. Still thinking it was stupid I stopped watching yet again.

Here in the US, they had a recap show the other night though. I'm sure I can catch up again if I wanted to. I guess I'm holding out hope that it'll get better.

I've read some theories for the show when the show first started and thought to myself that if any of those theories were true then it would be a waste of time watching. I tried to come up with some theories in hopes to curb that train of thought, but no luck. I just don't think I'll like whatever happens when it happens. But again, I guess I'm holding out hope that something better will happen... at least maybe in season two?

Lost came out sometime in the middle of Alias and we heard that it was from the same creators. At the same time Alias was waning(sp). The creators of the show have come out with a new show (at least over here, I'm not sure if they're showing it in the UK.... are they?) called What About Brian? This is relatively the same time Lost came out during Alias.

Although I keep loosing hope for the shows more and more, I still feel compelled to check in every now and then in hopes Abrams doesn't let me down again... and again... and again...

Nevermind.

JJ Abrams is responsible for 'Mission Impossible:3' which just had its UK premier and has rave reviews. On the back of that Paramount want to oust Rick Berman and have Abrams write 'Star Trek: XI'. So, right now the man could walk on water!

I liked 'Lost', though it is not as fantastic as people say. I did like what Damon Lindelof said about not dragging it out until it becomes unbelievable like the 'X-Files' became, but it is the studios to blame for that, not the writers and producers.

Yeah - but isn't that roughly what happened with Joss Whedon when he was asked to create a new series that became Firefly. And look what happened half a season later when TPTB decided walking on water wasn't a sufficiently good trick (despite a large and still-growing fan base)...

LOL but I absolutely agree.

PS. and I meant Star Trek: XI (not IX)

Lost begins again next Tuesday on Ch4 with two episodes.

My TV Guide has some interesting comments from Damon Lindelof. "We've never said when the plane crashed. The assumption is that it happpened in 2004 but we've never said that. No character refers to events in history that date exactly where we are in time."

Maybe not, but Lotteries in the USA were banned until the 1960's. The scratch card type are a very modern development, in the last twenty years. Jack's father was performing heart surgery I think. The airport was a modern one, certainly built in the '80's or '90's. The aeroplane was modern. An 'Oasis'- type rock band. Hurley was driving an SUV. The computers seen at the airport and the box company seemed to be using Windows. Iraqi National Guards and potential suicide bombers. I would think it could not be earlier than the mid-1990's.

Does anyone know enough about vehicles, aeroplanes and guns to place a more exact date?

A forthcoming episode mentions a book called 'The Third Policeman.'
- A real life book it sold 15,000 copies in the US after the writers suggested in held clues.
The book suggests that the island is a hallucination.

Lost is just awesome! Why does no-one want to discuss it???

I expected the second series to be but a shadow of the first, but after two episodes it has only brought more questions....
Who the hell is Desmond? An Angel? Why is he in the shelter? Why was there a quarantine sign?

What is with the seventies computers and records and oscilloscopes and decor?

Why is there a countdown clock, reset by the 'numbers'?

Who are the others? Why do they want Walt?
It seems to me that the Island exaggerates everyones own personal demons. So, maybe it is some mass hallucination??

I think the first two and half questions get answered in an episode or two...

My husband and I have a conflict between us about Lost. I think its absolute pants!! LOL He thinks its the best thing since sliced bread hehe!! I have to admit he is a fair way ahead of the UK as he's got a good friend who has managed to get copies of Lost episodes from the US. Hubby can't cope without his daily fix of Lost.

It drives me mad due to the fact that things seem to be going really slow plus Hurley still hasn't lost any weight and they've been on the island how long. Mind you I've read in the press that apparently he's been told to lose weight to try and coincide with being stuck on an island with little or no food hehe!!

annette :)

I also had a gripe about that, but in the second episode of the second series 40+ days was mentioned. He has still been eating, and apart from Golf doesn't do much exercise, so maybe it is not such a big deal. I would expect him to lose more from now on.
