Skara Brae, from The Bard's Tale

Oooh....it would have to be Tranquility a customized bitek habitat or Jobis the Kiint homeworld from the Night's Dawn Trilogy.

Naah, I preferred the 'real' Kiint homeworld that we see in the third book ;)

Carbuncle on Tiamat from Joan D. Vinge's "Snow Queen." The name itself is so perfect--a glistening garnet gem, but at the same time, a festering sore.

Hmm...tough question :)

I'd love to live on Babylon 5, DS9 or Eureka from TV SF :p

Also Sarantium, Rivendell, Hobbiton. Can't remember any other right now >_<

I'm not sure Rivendell or Hobbiton could be classified as cities. Towns, maybe.

Hobbiton is very villageish/townish, but Rivendell is definatly a city.

The City of the Singing Flame in Clark Ashton Smiths story story of the same name and its sequel Beyond the Singing Flame.

Arellarti The dreaded city in Kalr Edward Wangers Dark fantasy novel Bloostone.

Rivendell is also called the Last Homely House. It is a big house. I suppose it might have one or two outbuildings: gardener's shed, laundry etc like any self-respecting country pile.

Good choices.

As a fan of the Revelation Space series, Alistair Reynold's Chasm City has to be a personal favourite. Fabulously rich and exciting but fraught with danger.

City 17 from Half Life 2. Post apocalyptic is the best way to sum it up.
