Currently readin "The Lies of Locke Lamour" and a cracking read it is so far.

Just (finally) started The Darkest Road by Guy Gavriel Kay. Loving it so far. Has to be one of the best series I've read in a while!

Finished the second book in Olivia Manning's The Balkan Trilogy, so started John Fowles' The Ebony Tower. After I've finished the Manning, I'll start reading genre fiction again -- probably the second book in Paul Park's fantasy series, The Tourmaline.

Reading Lian Hearn's Across The Nightingale Floor, part of an omnibus edition of this trilogy I received.

I've skimmed over part of this before but never sat down to read the entire series cover to cover.

Just over halfway through and am really enjoying this book. It's based on a pseudo- Japanese Samaurai style world full of plots, assainations, forbidden love with more than an interesting hint of magic and illusion.

The story essenitally follows the paths of a young boy who is adopted into a young Lord Otori Shigeru's household where his full talents and past begin to be revealed and a young heiress Kaede who is betrothed to Shigeru for political expediency. Amidst the various machinations of the three main powers of the land stands a major player Lord Iida, sworn enemy of Shigeru with designs upon a woman who has been Shigeru's secret lover for many years. The man protected by the Nightingale Floor....

The prose is somehow captivating without needing to be overly prosaic and Hearn has a real skill at painting imagery. The language in fact shows a certain sophistication in it's simplcity and ability to captivate, reminding me of Hemmingway's Old Man and The Sea.

Recommended reading.

After that I'll be reading the other 2 books Grass For His Pillow and Brilliance Of The Moon before going on to the recently published final volume Harsh Cry Of The Heron.

Finished S.R.Green's - Shadows Fall - another good concept from this author, a city to where dreams go to die. The story at the same time was a bit thin, and some parts were too long, but good read anyway.

Now reading Alexander Gromovs - Islandic Map - a alternativ history story running in the early 20 century in alternative geography settings, where there is no American continent.

Currently reading Anne McCaffrey's Crystal Line. It's the most confusing of Anne's works. If it wasn't for her deteriorating quality of writing in other books in the 1990s and later, I'd write it off as deliberate, since the main character is suffering from self-inflicted amnesia for much of the book.

yeah anything by Bujold is good. Just finished When the Wind Blows by James Patterson and Into a Dark Realm by Raymond E Feist

I'm currently reading;

The Hickory Staff | Book I [by Robert Scott & Jay Gordon].

It's got me completely hooked at the moment, I spent 3 hours at a local café today, reading the book. I'm really looking forward to finishing the first volume and continue onto the next volume in the sequence, some may find this to be arguable and think the books are poorly written but I'd have to disagree.

I really liked this one too :) . I hope they will continue the follow-up.

Just finished Mark Robson's Imperial Assassin :)) see review) and am now reading The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold and liking it very much.

I really liked Curse of Chalion! I'm reading Paladin of Souls now, and enjoying it just as much :)

I am now reading Diana Francis Pharoah's Path books. Unfortunately, I just finished Kate Elliott's, Lois Bujold's and Melanie Rawn's new books and these Path books suffer by comparison. I am hoping that the writing improves as I get further into the books.

How To Loose Friends & Alienate People - Toby Young.

I have to say that I have read this book and it (and its author) haven't got one single redeeming feature. The author is absolutely hateful and the book a complete waste of my time.

BTW I made a typo in the title - it should be Lose.

There is a thread on this book, I started it a while ago if you wish to discuss it further.. it's probably buried way deep...

Found it! Page 9! I loved it! Hands Down best fantasy book I've read this year!

The Blade Itself - Joe Abercrombie (

Checked out the thread Ada, thank you. Very nice to get a comment from the author himself as well.

An update on my last post, where the book seemed to be about three different stories. Well, at last they are coming together :) and I am enjoying it.

Just started The Chronicles of Amber but finding it quite hard to get in to.
