Lost: Season Three

So, that's it for a couple months. What will Kate do??? Is she saying she can't go because Sawyer is being held at gun point (although I think she could take him with her) or because they are on a seperate island and have nowhere to go? I think the later.

I'm very curious about the words carved on Eko's Jesus stick: "Lift your eyes and look north". What the hell does that mean? The reason why he died? Charlie will be angry that he wasn't at Eko's funeral I am thinking.

Well, after being a rabid fan for two plus seasons Im afraid Im moving closer toward the "who cares" camp.
Seriously, I just dont know if I care anymore. Im not sure the writers have any sort of "exit strategy" :)
If I have to watch Sawyer getting beat up one more time..........

Ok, to each their own. But an exit strategy? Certainly not now. They are planning at least 2 or 3 more seasons.

Here's what has been said about this season recently by the producers:

11/08 - Cuse and Lindelof revealed: We have a very clear plan for this season, and I don't think we'll get back to Michael and Walt's story this season. Harold Perrineau's story is not finished. He is not on the show currently, but I think everybody is very curious to know what happened to Michael and Walt, and we hope to get back to that story. That character is still out there in the Lost universe. I think there are some upcoming episodes — after the break in the spring — that will answer a number of the open questions. We certainly plan to tell the audience this year how Locke got in the wheelchair. We'll be getting a lot more detailed about what happened to Locke, Eko and Desmond following the immediate aftermath of the hatch exploding, imploding or potentially doing something else. We're doing a flashback story where you'll find out how Jack got his tattoos. And we'll begin peeling back layers of who the Others are, how long they've been on the island, what their origins are. That's really the sort of uber-plot of Season 3. "What's the nature of this island? Where is this island?" The overarching mysteries of Lost remain unanswered. But those questions have to remain unanswered until the show ends. [Eko might be back and it] might not necessarily be a flashback episode. [What happened immediately after the hatch exploded] might be a flashback, but we're not going to tell you how that information gets relayed. That island isn't necessarily where [the Others] live. It's not necessarily the same place where we saw those guys in the beginning of the teaser of the season premiere this year. I think that would be a very reasonable explanation as to how Goodwin and Ethan could run from the Others' home camp to the crash site [in about one hour. The guy with the eye patch is going to figure prominently this season.] The fact that the island may have been seen [by the outside world] is pretty much the entire story arc of the second half of the year. There are two bombs being dropped [during the second half of the season], one of which is a character bomb, and that will happen within the first three episodes after the break. And the other is a more significant story bomb, a game-changer, as it were, and that will happen shortly after.

Also, for the next two episodes, the Feb 7th one is Juliet-centric, including flashback
Ethan will appear and she appreantly shoots someone not in her flashback, someone on importance to the plot
and the Nov. 14th one is Desmond-centric
who will have an encounter with Charlie in a flashback in London
.

To me, the character development is as interesting if not more at times than the unraveling of the mysteries. We will know who and what the others are (I hope).

I'm leaning in your direction Trey - I'm a bit annoyed with all of this. I think I'm mostly annoyed at the bits with the Others, perhaps I've decided that we should know something about them by this time and I'm tired of trying to work it all out. I sigh with relief when we go back to Locke and Sayid and the rest. As far as 'look north' that is probably how they'll find that there is a separate island and that it is most likely where the Others are (if that is indeed true and not just a hoax on Sawyer.

Where's crazy French lady? I've missed her bloodthirsty self.

Lucky Kate. She got to marry Nathan Fillion. (OK, a cop named Kevin, played by Nathan Fillion. But, still.)

What's the connection between Ben and the young woman who broke into the Other's compound in this week's episode? Is she the French woman's daughter, who helped Claire get her baby back? Could she also be Ben's daughter?

I had forgoten that the french woman had a daughter. She does seem to be someone of importance because no one was inclined to harm her.

I will keep watching because I love a good mystery and this is keeping me interesed because of the character development.

They could easily wrap up a lot of the storylines that have been going on for 2+ seasons and begin a new cycle. I really believed that things would have moved forward by now, but no. SSDD. And watching Saywer get beat up week after week? Yawn.
I was really upset that Eco died.

Hate to sound too harsh, it is still a great show, one that I wont miss, but its floundering. There are only a very select few who are going to wait another 3 seasons to find out what the heck is going on. Anyone out there hang with Alias all the way through???

'nuff said.

I've seen everything except the Eko dying episode now, so thought it was safe to come back here.

The producers are aware of that, but the studio will make them drag it out. Same thing happened to Chris Carter and the 'X-Files'. It is a shame, but a certain number of episodes is necessary for american network syndication and that is something like 100. It is all about money.

Do you think the girl (with the boy who released Sawyer from the Bear cage) was Rousseau's daughter (and who then was the boy?)

When Sawyer was shown the other island and told it was his island, how did they do that? Sayid, Jin and Sun sailed right around the island to the fake camp? Are they really on another island? That could be why the Others wanted the yacht so much. How did they get between the islands before?

What's the significance of the literary references: Carrie, Of Mice and Men, To Kill a Mockingbird?

Have Michael and Walt escaped?

AMAZING! Lost is simply amazing...

The whole show is just great - flashbacks are just WOW!

I really reallly love the way that everything in the show is there for a reason - like the books the characters read, the clothes the chcractars wear, everything we see on screen is specifically place there for a reason - and alot of things point towards the meaning of Lost and its secrets.

Lost has this amazing cult like following which im kind of obsessed about following - and i really just cant wait to find out more! :D:D

I'm convinced he invites it. Either because he thinks he deserves it, or because he wants to prove to himself that other people are as bad as (he thinks) he is.

For instance, the time he goaded Sayid into torturing him to get Shannon's medicine, when he could just have admitted that he didn't have it.

Just thought I would jump right in, and say I agree about Sawyer, to me he seems to want to suffer for the things he has done in his life, which we are finding more and more about. The whole thing with Shannon's medicine as well (as Teresa pointed out), he could have just said or maybe he enjoys pain?
:)

Yes and we dont know yet.

None of the other literary references have every really had any true discernable relationship to the story (eg any of the novels Sawyer was reading). Most seem to be red herrings and cute contrivances.

Have Michael and Walt escaped?

Doubtful.

Actually, the manuscript that Sawyer was reading that Jack threw in the fire had a direct link to the Darma Initiative and was all about the secret dealings of the Hanso Foundation. I'll try to find the name and the author.

And if she is Rousseau's daughter, why does she have an American accent? The only explanation was that she was raised by the Others. I think Rousseau spoke about them taken her children from her when she first met Sayid.

I'm starting to think it may have been a mistake for Lost to wait as long as it has to restart season three. I've almost completely forgotten about it by this point.

Just read that the Producers of the show are mapping out the end so that they can get out of the various plot lines they've developed. They said 5 to 7 seasons in total. So, we're already half way there. They also said they wanted to avoid the X-Files syndrome. A brilliant show that should of ended 2 years earlier than it did.

I read an interview with them before that said the same thing. They also defended Chris Carter, saying that it is the studios who push for more seasons, and that is exactly what they are currently fighting now. They believe that viewers will not stand these plot lines being dragged out any longer than that, and I have to agree.

I think that seven seasons seems to be about right even for a good series. So, I don't think it is a coincidence that most of the 'Star Trek' series were seven years long. Even though 'Star Trek: TNG' could probably have gone on longer it would have probably gone downhill and it is better to finish on a high. Unlike 'Stargate: SG-1' and 'The X-Files' that probably "jumped the shark" after the seventh season, though I have to say that I began to enjoy 'The X-Files' again later and I'm still waiting to see 'The Lone Gunmen' spinoff sometime.

Draging out the story lines any longer would be a waste and would probably be redundant. Babalon 5 was planed to run five years with a definate ending and was the better off for it. I think Lost will be too
