Philip Pullman - Northern Lights

Mecca, check the Film section of this place called Chrons. It will probably yield more info and that would be the right place to discuss the film.

I agree with Majimaune, if you want to discuss the movie the thread has been moved to the film forum.

Also, I did have an opportunity this last week to read this book. I have to admit it is now one of my favorite stories. Very well laid out with many creative twists. I enjoyed the ending but I was also very sad to see it end. I'm looking forward to visiting Barnes and Noble this weekend to pick up the next book in the series.

Does anyone know why they changed the title of the book to the Golden Compass, I think Northern Lights was a much better name!

*cough*American*cough*

Try not to look forward to the next two books too much. They are a letdown after the first one.

YOu can't be serious! that's sad! *sighs* I'll still read them! :p

That dont have to true for you, you might like it where Majimune dont.

My bro said the second book is a letdown but i dont think that matters until i have read it.

I have actually book 2-3 at home.

Would read it if i didnt have so many library books.

After the first one, how could it not be?

Well, I found all three books to be enjoyable in different ways. The Golden Compass is technically the better book, but for me all three had their merits and I'd actually be hard pressed to choose a favorite :)

Huh?..What took you so long?...;)

I've been recommending this series to folks over the past 2 years. I can't agree with my blue ball mate, I feel all 3 books are really good, so there..:p

Its cause I'm from Sydney isn't it :p I know lots of people who would disagree with you though. I'm just going by what I think.

Oh you know that little thing called life with three kids got in the way, nothing big! :p

I'm getting the second book for Christmas so I can't wait.

I think it is arguable that the rush of new ideas contained in the first book (daemons, Dust, parallel universes) are a hard act for the second and third books to follow, but I feel that they are just as worthy and enjoyable parts of the series. I think the story (and the characters) reach deeper levels of complexity and self awareness, which I suppose underpins the points that Pullman is trying to express. I envy people reading the series for the first time, what a thrilling experience it is!

It was brilliant the first time yes but after a little while you realise you don't like the ending.
