Yes I found the ending very moving and poignant and, in my humble opinion, the logical conclusion to the story.

Unfortunately I haven't read his books yet. What would be the age group that Northern Lights is aimed at? My 10 year old is reading two grades higher than her peers. I am a bit worried about the scene where the polar bears are fighting.

Probably 12 years and up.

I'm no expert on such things and it will vary with the person but that's my personal take.

I recently recommended the books to a work colleague's son who is about 12 and he loved them. So much so I'm going to see the movie this morning with their family.

Thank you Gollum I think Kate is a very mature 10 year old, so I should imagine she will enjoy them.

All the books are meant to be childrens books but I think he kinda failed on that point.

Saw the movie yesterday.

What it covered was good but it seemed to be lacking a little in substance or at least missed too much from the book for my liking.

I'll still go and see the second movie though.

I think that's why I prefer to see a movie first. I've found that most films miss quite a lot, especially the details.

Yeah because who want to sit through a 5 hour film? I read the books years ago. Before I knew they were making a film, possibly before they started pre-production.

Well, our big bookshops had a BIG Sale but they were right out of copies of Northern Lights... to be expected though! Anyway, have put in an order and will read it before buying Kate her copy....
