Stephen King - Best Book??

Yes, I just looked at Wiki too :D Hmm, I may have to check that one out. 'Tis shocking, a Stephen King story that I haven't read!:D

I finished Shawshank and Apt Pupil a few days ago.

It has been quite a while since I saw the film, but Apt Pupil was very extreme. I doubt the film included all the material. As a matter of fact, the small bits of the film I remember seem to be a cop-out compared to the story I just read.

Apt Pupil was brilliant, but had some very disturbing, quite distasteful things in it! I remember the film being a bit mediocre though.

I love:

The Talisman
Salems Lot
The Stand
The Green Mile
Night Shift

I didnt enjoy:

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon

Pet Sematary I loved.....Until I had kids. Then the image of Gage falling out of the coffin at the funeral etc., was too much to bear and I couldnt read it again. I picked it up about a year ago and still found it a bit much. Im getting a bit soft in my old age.:(

My favorite is probably Bag of Bones. That book really stuck with me. The Green Mile and Shining and Misery are all close, though.

I have read only The Dead Zone,Salem's Lot,Shawshank Redemption so far.

I think The Dead Zone is the best so far. I felt more for Johnny Smith's life story. It was alot better written than The Lot also.

I cannot claim to have read even half of all his works, but my favourite since the very beginning has been IT, a marvellous coming of age story about seven childhood friends who are up against an inconceivable evil and have to face it again as adults, all the while having to cope with the regular stuff that life flings at you. All in all, a wonderful wonderful book. :) Not to mention scary.

Others among my very favourites would be The Stand, Bag of Bones, Black House and Dreamcatcher.

I would probably have enjoyed Green Mile more if I had not seen the movie years before reading the book, and so my enjoyment was somewhat compromised. It's a great movie, however, and a great book in its own right.

The Shining was probaby the first Stephen King book I've read and it's been some 12 years since I've read it which may be why it's the least memorable to me. I think I'll give it a second go some time.

If you're looking for non-fiction, On Writing was a great read, and besides tips on writing, Mr. King offers interesting insight into his own life, that is both endearing and funny to learn about.

Salem's Lot. Although basically a modern remake of Dracula, I think it beats its predecessor hands down. It is the best vampire book I've read.

Pet Semetary was great and I also loved Cujo.

In order (hard to do this but...)

Insomnia
Eyes of the Dragon
The Drawing of the Three
The Wastlands
Christine
Cell

That's my favorite 5 right there. The one's I'll read if I'm out of new books, and it's usually the first one I find that I go for.

Stephen King books make excellent books... but when they go to Hollywood they can lose a lot of magic. DO NOT watch Misery or Needful Things before reading the books. Also, the Dark Tower Series is really awesome too.

1/ The Stand
2/ It
3/ Needful Things
4/ Eyes of the Dragon
5/ Christine

Strangely I prefer his old stuff. Cell I bought, read about a third, then could not be bothered to finish. I just did not want to know what happened next like I used to with SKs early novels.

Tilion: Me and my mother actually read the Green Mile as the serials were coming out. It was fun and is still one of my best memories as far as reading is concerned.

Stay away fro IT if you don't like clowns! They scare me, but I had to read it and look at what I am like now! It was a great book though.

*shudders*

The movie gave me more nightmares then anything else ever have. I dont get scaried easily usually but as a kid i couldnt watch IT. I was so scared all the time, acting like a girl with the pillows for cover :p

Hopefully the book is worse and will creep the hell outta of me!

It was the scariest King book for me - I refused to go in a shop once cos it had the same name as the clown.....

But the best?

The Stand, Green Mile, The Shining, IT......and I've always had a soft spot for Rage, I couldn't really say why.

Rage was pretty good, although most people that haven't read it in the states will probably have to order it somehow because King brought it off the market, because some kid who decided to replicate the things from the book was caught with that book in his locker. Now, I know it would seem prudent to take such action, but I really can't understand why this happened, because you could say that any books about things such as the war in Iraq could be acting as accelerants just as much as King's book might have acted for that kid.
King can't be held responsible for random happenings like this, or at least he shouldn't feel the need to protect himself from them simply because one person was influenced by it. But still, great read.lol. I love it when stories are kept to a relatively short length, those ones where you know that if you decide to sit down on a summer evening at six, it'll still be bright by the time you finish it out(that's if you're as slow a reader as I am, compared to others, although I read as if words are my essence). Although saying that I don't mind the hefty books either, those 1000 page tomes. Bag of Bones was excellent, but god don't start me with The Stand. I thought the idea was great, and some sub-stories within it were great to keep track of, but seriously, am I the only person who thought Fran's only characteristic was crying? I'm not anti-crying(lol), but that was the most irritating thing ever. You'd nearly feel you needed a virtual rain coat before you started to read a scene she was in. I better stop, I'm coming across very critical, when really I love nearly everything by King I can get a hold of.

Stephan King is one of my favorite authors
Things like the Green Mile, the long as hell book the Stand, The longwalk. The darktower series wasn't my favorite but still ok.
I still need to read The Mist, Tommy Knockers, Salem's Lot, Cell and about two others .
Currently reading Lisey's Story its a different style for him, a slow start, but it picks up.
