What comic books/graphic novels are you reading at the moment?

Having just finished Kick-Ass (for the third time), I took one look at the big pile of actual new comics I need to catch up on and thought I really should catch up a bit... then picked up Essential X-Men Vol.1 and started re-reading that again.

(Writing this X-Men history elsewhere on the Chrons seems to have got me re-reading the classic 1960's issues - now I'm going to see what I missed....)

Currently my favourite is the webcomic Looking for Group. I also picked up the other day a graphic novel of Terry Pratchet's first two Discworld novels which I've been reading.

Just finished the whole run of The Filth and really enjoyed it's unusual style even if it did get confusing at some points. I think I'm gonna start The Invisibles now because I have the first few already.

I currently have Supergirl volume 1, Aquaman volume 1, Shazam volume 1 and World's Finest volume 1 (the very fist Superman/Batman team-ups) on my reading list, if I can only find the time to read them. These are the good, old comics from DC Comics that started it all, and most are pretty good. I didn't like Wonder Woman and Elongated Man, for some reason. but the rest is usually great. They might be crap compared to today's comics, but it's fun to read comics from a different era. Do you know how and why Superman and Batman decided to join forces? I do. It's all there in World's Finest. ;)

Read some current Batman titles last night:
Batman 708
Batman The Dark Knight 2
Batman Inc. 4
Superman/Batman 82

Whether Bruce Wayne or Dick Grayson Batman is still one of the most enjoyable and reliable characters in comicdom. While everything above is stunning David Finch appears to be verging on the brilliant.

I got Preacher vol 5 to vol 8 from the library.

I like the characters specially Cassidy i adore but i think the writing, themes is not mature Garth Ennis. He became much better in Hitman,Hellblazer.

I've just finished Edginton and D'Israeli's Leviathan, which is collected from 2000 A.D. in progs from 2003-2005.

And Foolkiller from Marvel MAX.

Read Batman: Hush (potential spoilers)
Another Jeph Loeb story, similar to the incredible Long Halloween and Dark Victory in their detective who dunnit? style. Someone knows who Batman is, and is going to great lengths to hurt him. The answer a little more obvious but you'll never guess the real REAL bad guy behind it all... Loeb manages to bring almost all the villains in, with their bit parts. Some very cool moments, but received some controversy over the Batman-Catwoman relationship.

Also read Astonishing X-men and Ghost Box Thought they were very cool, at first I wasn't so sure, but then the twists and turns- script, everything- awesome. Ghost Box was a less cool, having a great start, but then the investigation is pretty short (I had just been reading Jeph Loeb Batman) Alternate stories at the end, the 'Ghost Boxes' (parallel universes) are short and sweet.
I'm awaiting We3 Hardcover by Grant Morrison. Looking forward to it. It's a bit like the film 'Homeward Bound' but with weapons.

Just ordered 'Sleeper Seasons 1 and 2' by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips which I'm really looking forward too. Their series of 'Criminal' is very cool. Also ordered the entire 'Powers' definitive collection. I am also expecting 'We3' hardback by Grant Morrison and 'Violent Cases' which is meant to be very good. Was going to get 'The league of Extraordinary Gentlemen' but I wasn't sure about it, I've heard very little about the actual quality of the story, a few people like it and swear the film wasn't a good edition. I need to finish my '100 Bullets' collection, I hate having to buy several volumes, I want to have an ending... I also want to get 'Planetary' but couldn't find a simple enough edition series, would anyone recommend it?

Thanks a lot. Is it just Absolute editions One and Two? Are there more?
If you're not into Super hero stories, what Graphics do you read? My collection is growing but I need to get all the obvious comics out of the way first. I want 'Stigmata' which is painted in an Expressionist, scratchy yet beautifully flowing manner. I wasn't so interested in stuff like 'Paloma' and 'Epilepsy'.

Just the two, yes.

I'm no long time comic fan, and I'm also digging through the essentials. Of new books, which are very far from your typical Marvel book, definitely seek out Daytripper by Ba & Moon. (I've probably recommended it before). The first tpb of The Unwritten also blew me slightly away.

If you master either French, Danish/Norwegian or Swedish, I really recommend The Passengers of the Wind by Francois Bourgeon. It hasn't had an English release... yet. Book from the 80s.

It's been a while since the last time I posted in this thread. After finding an omnibus edition of CLAMP's Magic Knight Rayearth in a discount store (I can't resist a bargain), I'm reading through that. Shojo manga isn't really my cup of tea, but it's good to have a change every now and again.

Yes, I see you've recommended that on 'comic/GN what's the diff?' I will certainly look into it. and I like the sound of being blown "slightly" away. I might master French, but what is 'The passengers of the wind' about?

This picture describes it very well. It's about a very frivolous lady in the 1700s. About sailing, slavery, the conquest of Africa and French and British turmoil. A sexualised, mature and epic story about a young woman called Isa and her love.

François Bourgeon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Apparently, it was even an Amiga game lifted from the comic:
Passengers on the Wind for Amiga (1989) - MobyGames

"As the French Revolution is about to begin, Hoel and Isa find themselves in Brittany after a series of unfortunate events. They will face a thousand dangers, travel from the European to the African shores, in a quest to discover truth about Isa's real identity."

Preacher-

haven't read it for a few years...
still a great read that (really) makes me 'lol'
from time to time~

Really liked Sleeper vol. 1 (still have to pick up vol. 2 one day)
Wildstorm put out some very good titles in that time period-
the Authority, The Monarchy, Stormwatch PHD, The Establishment &
Global Frequency are all favorites of mine-
Planetary I'd highly recommend as well...

Vol. 1 of League was very good! Vol.2 I didn't enjoy as much~
