First Lines

(Thank you, Interference.:) And that's a great opening line, Manarion - straight into the story.:))

Memories of that day always haunt me when it rains.

The rain was wet, wetter than normal, or was it just that I was dry, dryer than I had been in months, Damn this rain!

November started off just like any other month with one exception. The sun rose at 11:13 a.m that day and set at 2:37 p.m the next day. That was when we realized the Earth fell off its axis.

This was the part of the old house that frightened her the most, especially when she was alone. The light switch was near the door at the far end and the moonlight cast dark, mis-shapen shadows from the giant oak into the alcove part way along the gloomy corridor.

She always imagined she could make out the shape of a man crouching quietly, waiting for her to pass by.

In the alcove a man crouched quietly, waiting for her to pass by.

Sleep always stopped me from doing everything I wanted to do in life. That was why i invented the solution. Unfortunately, the pill had a few side effects. The most common being death.

I'd taken the bus to avoid walking home in the rain, but when I got off and the bus pulled away, it drove through a puddle and soaked me. However, when I tried to pat myself dry I found the little neatly wrapped package in my pocket and an enigmatic card.

But there had been no-one else on the bus.

Oooh, intriguing - I love the detail, too :)

The harmonica was slung from his hip as he walked up to the bar and tried to catch the barman's attention. Minutes passed. Then he blew a note and everything stopped.

The sun was high above the canopy of trees but Kel still could feel the heat burning down on him. What he would have given to have a small breeze flow throught the majestic forest. To have the leaves sing a soft song while cooling him down from the scorching sun would be a blessing indeed.

Just as she was about to leave, the door creaked open. She stopped; stared. There should be no light in there, she thought, and certainly not a blue one.

We faded away like the memories from those horror filled days when it was allowed ascendancy, and in the end I did what I should have done before our choice caused the torture of so many souls.

Hi, sffhound - nice opening line, there. Hope it's a comedy :)

Sometimes he'd wake up and not want to kill something. This wasn't one of those times.

The first flakes of snow mingled with the ashes of her funeral pyre, falling from a sky the colour of tears.

Santa stood looking down over his elves. This was once a vast forest, warm and full of life. Now centuries upon centuries later his people were cold and malnourished, evolution turning the once lithe and hearty elf into a small pitiful creature. Unfortunatly Santa had magic on his side and was immortal or he would have perished ages ago before having to witness the demise of a once beautiful species. Elves used to be master wood workers, carving godlike bows and arrows as if they were born to do so. Now they sat on their cold stools and widdled away making trains and yo-yo's. Ah...what could have been but never could have been.

You've probably never heard of Sharatan, or of the planet Ovis, Beta Arietis III.
I wish I hadn't.
I wish I hadn't gone within light-years of the place.
In fact, we should put the whole damn system into quarantine. Now. No exceptions.
