My First Post!

Finished
Short Story Bruised
Genre Science Fiction
Status

Novels
Indigo/zero
Genre Science Fiction/Time Travel
Word Count 91,000
Status Gathering virtual dust, perfectly happy to let this slide as nothing more than first attempt to get something finished, as is basically same plot as a well-known sci-fi film with my own characters.

Burning The Sun
Word Count 51,000
Status Although happy with first draft of NaNoWriMo 2007 entry, is far too short to consider returning to for the moment.

Unfinished
Novel Buenaventura
Genre Science Fiction/Space Opera
Word Count 111,800
Status Ongoing- My pride and joy, currently on chapter 28 of 35 planned. Original target for first draft 110,000 words, now expected 140,000. Speed of writing fluctuates, sometimes only a few lines per day, but giving up has never been an option.

Hopefully the first of many, Ross. If you get a chance why not post something for some of our more esteemed critters to tinker with? I think you'll find all of them nice and most of them helpful ;)

Looking forward to seeing the word count grow, Ross!

Here's a chart for my next project...

Unfinished
Novel: To View Nature (probably won't be the final title)
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 4,630
Status: It took me a few days to decide on what to write next, then I remembered an idea for a novella that came to me while I was half way through The Statue. I expected it to be pretty short but it seems the story is flowing well and I'm getting tons of ideas, so it'll probably end up as a novel. We'll see.

Jon you are a powerhouse. Keep up the good work!

Thank you!

Finished!
Novel: To View Nature
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 9,323
Status: Turned out to be a short story! Who knew! I was surprised when I realized on page 15 that I was writing the end. I would have liked it to be a novella, but I'm happy with it in terms of quality, so no worries.

Now I'm thinking of what the write next, and having trouble again. I have the opposite of writer's block - I have built up so many ideas over the years (mostly when I was too young to write anything good) that I'm lost among them. A lot are really intimidating, some are hardly worth devoting any time to.

Fun fact: I have over twenty five books planned, twenty of which are fantasy! Should occupy my time over the next decade or two. :p

Finished.
E.D.F Chronicles book 1 - the Krenaran Massacre.
Genre: Science Fiction
Word Count: 60,105
Status: My pride and joy. Currently undergoing 3rd revision, beginning work on synopsis, and prologue.

Just ten pounds.
Genre: Fiction
Word count: 1,289
Status: Short story entry for writers reign 2009 competition, now gathering virtual dust.

Hopefully once i have E.D.F chronicles book 1 published, i can begin work on the other 3 books in the series. I also have an idea of a spiritual fantasy work i would like to begin once E.D.F chronicles is finished.

Wow! Jon I would like to read some of your writing, if you would like to share it.

I'll be sure to post something. It may take a while to decide what to put up, though. I have posted a few fragments here and there that you can read, but my latest work is undoubtedly better.

This will probably be my last post in this thread for a while, I want to get stuck in my writing and hopefully finish my next book in a couple of months. That way I can finally prove to myself that I am doing the right thing with my life, that I was meant to write.

Unfinished
Novel: Talesi
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 13,733
Status: "Talesi" means "Tale", unsurprisingly, in the old Draven language. Talesi is an epic of historical fiction which is referred to constantly in my other books. I thought I might as well write it. It will probably be around 150k-200k words. By the time I post again I'll probably be a quarter done with it.

Posting sooner than I meant to but I thought this was funny. I just checked my word count randomly and saw this:

Anyway, onto the chart
Unfinished
Novel: Talesi
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 33,333
Status: Progressing well, I have most of the story planned out now. It's getting quite interesting. I still predict 150k-200k words. It's highly likely that it will be my longest book yet.

Unfinished...

What is it?
It's a novel!

What type of novel? Fantasy!

Mmm...bit vague. what's it about?
A fallen noble makes a pact with a demon, raises Hell (literally), plucky people seek means to stop him.

Wow! Sounds...generic. Yes, well, I'm working on that.

How far in are you? 26 k

How far, really? 25,762 *sniff*

How far is it going? Aiming for 140-150 k for the first draft.

OK, do you have a plan to prevent Deus Ex Machina? You're not going to pull some Holy artifact out int he last 3 chapters and nuke the baddie are you?
Hey! You read my first plot summary. To be fair, it was written at 4 am when I couldn't sleep. I have a plan, though. It remains to be seen whether it will work or not.

What's it called then? I'll get back to you on that one...

Unfinished
Novel: Talesi
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 63,917
Status: The same as last time; progressing well, most of the story is set, all I have to do is write it and flesh out the details. The way I see it, it will be at least 150k, but more like 175k. Or even longer. A lot of stuff has yet to happen.

Unfinished
Novel: Talesi
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 81,259
Status: I'm going to say 150k now as my estimate. It's highly unlikely it will be under that, and probable that it will be a bit over, say 10-20k. This means that it is half over. Another month should do it - when I first started it I set out to finish it before August 19, which gave me exactly three months to write it. That was when I had so many ideas flying around, and, unsure of where they would go and how they would fit, I thought it might even be 250k. Now I know pretty much where it's going so I can give a solid guess.

Unfinished
Novel: Talesi
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 101,117
Status: Sometimes I think it might be longer than 150k. I mean, much longer. But I usually experience that moment as I near the climax of every book, where I wonder when it will ever end. To be safe I'll keep with the 150k estimate. It is going good. The events are all culminating quite well. As this is sort of a sweeping, historical epic the pacing is slower than normal. A lot has to happen; I'm trying to depict an entire time period in a land that is entirely my invention.

P.S., I hit the 100k milestone today which is exciting. I haven't had a book reach that length in well over a year.
