The chronicles word counter!

Congratulations on finishing, Sauve123.

Re keeping notes: I agree; some ideas can transcend their supposed place in a plot, so if you really like something - a scene, some dialogue, notion - hang on to it.

Estimated Final Word Count: 200 000

Bumped up my Edtimated Final Word Count after realising that I have yet to get into or finish up the initial incident. Made with better pace, almost 300 words a day.

Short story for the Manchester Fiction Prize competition weighed in at 4909 words when I finally submitted it. Deadline isn't until the 7th of August, but I had tinkered with it enough and I got sufficient good feedback to draw a line under it.

We'll see how it goes. I sincerely doubt it'll win anything, but you can always hope. Plus I reckon it's good enough to submit elsewhere should nothing happen, which is nice as a backup.

The rest of my week has been spent hammering out 8,100 words of a bit of contemporary fiction (with supernatural elements). It's a lot of fun, trying to keep things fast-paced, but still provide backstory for the main character. Also, it's entirely in first person, which is a new thing for me. The epic fantasy is kind of on hold at the moment, as I want to try and finish this and a couple of smaller pieces that are more likely to reach a publishable state.

I having a love-hate relationship going with current version, as I speed up towards the end. The word counter points at 97 022, while my aim is to finish in next 83 pages or roughly at 127 000 mark.

Malessar's Curse is shelved at 61k at the moment while other projects take the front seat:

The Clockwork Eyeball
(alternate post-steampunk 60s spy thriller set in Marrakesh, with automatons, wind-up cars and the aforementioned eyeball!)
steaming into final stretch....
10500 words and rising

Cold Snap
(third in the expanding series of terraforming-themed SF shorts; first went to Pantechnicon, second is currently under submission)
just come out of the deep freeze with this one
2472 words and slowly building; aiming at 5k.

Well, this is my starting point. My work schedule is pretty random so some days and weeks I'll have a lot more time than others. On top of that, I'm doing an A-Level (which I'm beginning to wish I hadn't started) and on top of that (on top of that...we're getting quite high now) I've only been writing for a couple of days, I have no idea how much I can realistically churn out in a day or a week. At the moment I'll use this as a reference to look back on and tell people at a later point when they can send me abusive messages (and occasionally, messages telling me to write more :D).

Novel: Untitled (Hmm, I could just call it that...)
Genre: Sci-fi/humour (well, not sure about humour, it might just quip occasionally)
Word count: 1,121
Chapters: 1 (Dan Brown I ain't, he'd be up to chapter seven by now!)
Status: Chugging along happily. It's still early days yet!

a decent start then! i do set myself a word target for each day, but if that fails then i just try to make sure i write something, even if it's just a sentence. good luck with it.

Unfinished
Novel: Untitled
Genre: Sci-fi
Word Count: 18,291
Status: I decided to do a different book. For some reason this story has been gnawing at me a lot the past few months. It's going well. I haven't been writing as much per day recently because we've been hit with a serious heat wave. Being of northern European descent I've been rendered completely useless during the day time this past week. But I'm still writing at night. My schedule's getting a bit out of whack because of this, but oh well.

I'm going to let this thread inspire me. I am writing (albeit at glacial pace) a commentary on Acts.

Title: A Preaching and Teaching Commentary on Acts (Too long but descriptive.)
Genre: Biblical commentary
Word Count: 72,700
Chapters: 21 completed (12 chapters of Acts)
Status: I have worked on this on and off for years. I have been off for most of the past 2 years, but have decided that a change in my family situation (a little more settled) will allow me to steal a little time for the fourth level priority. 600 words last night.

Status:Another 600 words last night, I can see the glacier beginning to tip the stake.

Surpassed all my goals for this week, managing to get to 10 000 on the 30th and managed to cram more than 5 000 words in this week. Doing good.

Unfinished
Novel : Freak Like Me (working title)
Genre : currently unclassified, it is very much between several genres.
Word Count : 25,000 after only three days!
Status: Had to take a break on my original piece and do something more light hearted. After only three days I have 25,000 words, so I think I was smart to take the break!

That's pretty amazing. It's about 8300 words per day. The way I write that would be about 14-15 pages.

I guess I should post a chart while I'm here.

Novel : Untitled (Still!)
Genre : Sci-fi
Word Count : 26,382 (after 14 days... I'll add another 1k before I go to bed tonight probably)
Status: It's going a bit slower than my last two books. I chalk that up to it being science fiction, whereas all 8 of my previous novels were fantasy. I've been reading some Isaac Asimov to get acquainted a bit. But even though I'm not writing it as fast I still think it's quite good, and seems to be picking up speed.

Title: A Preaching and Teaching Commentary on Acts (Too long but descriptive.)
Genre: Biblical commentary
Word Count: 73,300
Chapters: 21 completed (12 chapters of Acts)
Status:Continuing to work. Did a revision of the work on chapter 22 and wrote an additional 400 words.

I've finally sent the pacific document for the collaborative project to Moonbat; at 19,879 words it is a bit heavier than the ±5,000 I was aiming for.

I've been doing a lot of dragon work recently, but I'll say how many words when they're all collected together.
