The chronicles word counter!

Unfinished
Novel: Expanse Point
Genre: Science Fiction
Word Count: 45,807
Status: WIP. It's going well. I've been doing between 2000-3000 words per day. I expect it to be around 100,000 words, but I think it has the potential to be much longer. This is only my second full length science fiction work, so it's hard to predict. But I'll probably be finished with the 1st draft in January or February.

Unfinished
Novel: Expanse Point
Genre: Science Fiction
Word Count: 68,563
Status: Still doing around 3000 words per day. I was doing 2000 a day for some time on this book, because I was visiting my mom and all I had was a laptop on the dining room table... But now I have my PC in my own room so I'm writing more. I'm still thinking it'll be around 100,000 words. Today I'm going to surpass my last SF novel in length.

Unfinished
Novel:
Currently untitled.

Genre: Space opera, military science fiction.
Word Count: 5,532
Status: This is my third or fourth attempt at writing this monster, hindered due to an overambitious plot. I think I've nailed it now though. I'm pumping out about 2,000 per week, and editing out several hundred the following week. Trying to keep this up.

Unfinished
Novel: Long Weekend.
Genre: Urban Fantasy.
Word Count: 61,000+
Status: Adding a chapter every week or so. As each chapter now documents a day, lengths vary. I reckon I've 7~~10 to go, with a finale roughed out. Today's been the first time in weeks I've not written anything, but nephew was fixing my local network...

Novel: Untitled
Genre: Fantasy (Epic/Dynastical)
Word Count: 18 047
Status: Still intermittent...

Wow, had to go back a ways to find the last update on this one...

Novel: Untitled
Genre: Fantasy (Epic/Dynastical)
Word Count: 21 423
Status: Making a concerted effort

Novel: Footstool of God (working title amongst many others)
Genre: Fantasy (Stand alone in a fantasy world with a major story arc)
Word Count: 70,000
Status: Writing climax now. Ideally finished in 3 months Ha!

Major editing will be needed. I will never be a Stephen King writer,I write messy. Still the word count at this stage has shocked me. Lots of culling to do.

after a terrible christmas (work, home, the lot), only just got back into the swing of it again. a massive splurge last night means that:

Empire Dance 1: The Kiiren Boy
what Mrs Chopper charitably calls "Space Flannel" and you may call cliched SF Opera
33k (+ snatches from parts 2 & 3 amounting to another 8-9k)
steaming on to target of 50k

Malessar's Curse: The Heir to the North
hey now hey now now, sing something doomy to me
73k+ - no movement
struggling to refind "the voice" post-xmas. the forthcoming long weekend down in the big smoke might kickstart this one...
Empire Dance
episodic SF
31k+
on the back burner once more...

Malessar's Curse: The Heir to the North
oooh, look, it's got a subtitle!
73k+,
now with chapters 1-8 complete in ms format

Reever's Mark
hero inherits cursed gauntlet; nothing happens...
20k-ish
hibernating until further notice

Unfinished:
Novel: The Roses of Darkness (Working Title)
Genre: Sci Fi / Fantasy
Word Count thus far: 10995

Short Novel: Harrod & Elvin (Working Title) [On the back burner]
Genre: Fiction / Humour
Word Count thus far: 5015

I like this idea. Tables and figures rule my world so it will motivate me.
Although it may cause me some confusion. There is no real guide as to how long (or short) a novel should be.

Unfinished
Novel: Long Weekend.
Genre: Urban Fantasy.
Word Count: 67800+
Status: Adding a chapter every week or so. As each chapter now documents a day, lengths vary. I reckon I've 7~~10 to go, with a finale roughed out.

After a fortnight gap in writing, I've made enough progress to consider previous chapter 'solid' and countable...

Novel: Whisper My Name
Genre: Vampire Revenge Tragedy
Word Count: 99k
Status: Complete (yeah, right), being edited to remove the SF elements and give it a more contempory feel.

Novel: Catch My Shadow
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 15k
Status: WIP. One of the pieces I cycle back round to.

Novel: The Bright And Hollow Sky
Genre: SF
Word Count: 19k
Status: WIP. The composite title for for three-part piece involving a transplanted personality.

Novel: Under A Darkening Sky
Genre: Fantasy
Word Count: 25k
Status: Started off as a series of postings on here and currently under review to see if the plot would warrent a full length treatment.

I Wanna Play too!

Unfinished:
Novel: No Name As of yet. A Place older Title of "The Greatest Stories Never Told"
Genre: Low-Medium Fantasy. Maybe heroic Fantasy. It's hard to say, not high but something fantasy....ish.
Word Count: 63,000 ish.
Status: Ongoing, and how! I have been doing anywhere from one to three chapters a day at about 3K a chapter. Having no job makes writing easy.

Impressed and shamed all in one go :(

I look forward to reading some extracts if you feel like posting it in the Critiques. Or (one day) the published novel, if you prefer to cut straight to the chase :D

Long Weekend **Finished**

**Finished**
**Finished**
**Finished**

Novel: Long Weekend.
Genre: Urban Fantasy.
Word Count: 79,500+
Status: Added a chapter every week or so. As each chapter documents a day, lengths varied. A finale I roughed out about half-way through just slotted in today, so it is **Finished**.

Bad news is that 'Long Weekend' is NOT commercial material-- But I knew that when I began...

Still, to finish one novel-length tale may have been an accident. To finish two suggests a trend...

Congratulations, Nik! Commerical or not, it's a real achievement. Well done.

Um... if one chapter documents a day, and a new chapter was added every week, just how long is this Long Weekend...

Grats Nik! Was this the one about the dizygotic twins switching places and the male-posing-as-female one getting kidnapped that you posted an excerpt of before?

FINISHED: (Only Kind of)

Novel: No Name As of Yet
Genre: Fantasy (Mid/ Low Fantasy)
Word Count: 103, 514
Status: First draft is finished, and am now working on editing (ARGH). It's going to suck because I have to redo half a dozen chapters, and add many more scenes, along with fix my awful grammar. It will be a while (Once I finish the prologue I'll post it up) but the first draft is done. It's a huge relief.

HUZZAH

Novel: Nameless, irritatingly enough.
Genre: Don't know. Gritty urban character study, but with angels. Maybe a little bit horror towards the end...
Word count: 36,094
Status: Chomping along at a reasonable pace. I guess I'm around a third of the way through. Haven't quite finished the beginning because I don't know if I like what I've done with the exposition and I've ground to a halt, so I've carried on with the rest of it. Got another 2000 words or so waiting to slot in later, too, so maybe 38,000. Which is a lot of words. Goodness.
