The chronicles word counter!

Unfinished
Novel: Up to Eternity
Genre: Sci-fi
Word Count: 50,484
Status: It's going very well. This book blows all my previous ones out of the water. It'll probably be a bit short, maybe 70k, maybe 65k, but short in this case is definitely better (I just finished Heinlein's The Door into Summer, which is 65k and really good). This book is equally fast-paced and thought provoking. I've had a lot of fun with it. And since I'm already writing minimally, I won't need to do a whole lot of editing. And this is my 9th novel. Maybe it will be good enough to sell?

Finished!
Novel: Up to Eternity
Genre: Sci-fi
Word Count: 70,037
Status: The best thing I've ever written, definitely. At the climax my heart was beating so fast that I had to take a break. It's a bit on the short side, but I'm not very worried about it. I'll start editing sometime soon. I'm very confident about this one, and I'm ready to give it all the attention it needs to become salable. And I think the word count will probably grow after a revision.

To the 1/5th mark. Had a real productive week.

I've just completed the first draft of 'Whisper My Name', the full-blown version, which is about 100k words. This is by far and away the longest piece of narrative I've ever attempted and the word count is more how it came out rather than a concious goal.

This was written during the down time on night shift, with the final 7-8k written over 2 nights. The most I ever poured out was maybe 6k in one night and I felt absolutely knackered at the end of it; sometimes I can't stop writing and at other times the blank page looks hellishly daunting.

Now, apparently writing is the easy part and its revision which causes most suicides!

Cheers,

Martin

Cheers guys, but a lot of the credit has to go to Boneman and his borderline obsessive enthuasism for my 'project'. Without him I very much doubt it would have been completed as quick, if at all.

ok, now i've finished all of my current short stories. the cupboard is empty.
back to the epics....

Malessar's Curse
First half of a planned 2-part tragic fantasy
@ 61000 words
been a bit barren recently, waiting for it to enthuse me once more.

The Empire Dance
Resurrected military-style SF, donkeys years old
@3500 words (plus 7000 from an unspecified part of the plot)
just found the old files on backup discs; having a bit of fun with it and trying a new, very episodic approach.

Kinsmeet: Reever's Mark
epic fantasy-stodge
20000ish words
hasn't moved a muscle in 18 months or so.
the only thing moving right now is the Empire Dance project.

up to 7000 (+ other 7k elsewhere)

More than three quarters of the way through a polishing edit** - I'll get that genie out of WiP1 if it's the last thing I do - and WiP1 is below 140,000 words and is likely to remain so.

** - Which doesn't mean I haven't found a couple of dubious plot elements (thankfull, minor ones) that I've had to fix. (One of the fixes - which took the action away from a location one of the characters shouldn't have been able to get to and also added some action - cut the word by over 100. :))

Playing on 112 000 work mark, where I have a problem understanding medical terms so that I could accurately write what injuries causes.

About 101000 words of a finished sci-fi piece that will never see the light of day at the rate I am editing it.

Another 91000 words of an abandon steam-punk fantasy novel.

Finally 24500 words for a military themed sci-fi series of linked short stories, most of which is edited.

Hey sure, I could use some guilt tripping to get my fingers in gear.

Untitled
Genre: Fantasy/Horror
Status: In Development (Planned length 70,000 words)
Writing to Start: Tuesday 1st of September 2009
Goal: 7,000 words per week

Not really in the rules of this thread, but I've just racked up 5,770 words for the day. Deadlines really work! But I am so not looking forward to reading through it tomorrow. My PC has run out of red pixels for underlining.

Slowed down this week. Risked burning out. Just going to see how it is going to go at this stage of the book.

Novel: Power in the blood (working title shamelessly stolen from an Alabama 3 album that was cycling on iTunes)
Word count: 40,200
(Δ - 32,000 since I lasted mentioned it on 26th July)
Target: 85-90k

Roughly halfway through this story, a bit of a departure for me as I've written it entirely in the first person. It was daunting at first and I managed barely 1k per day for a long time, but I'm getting into the swing of it.

Still, only a first draft yet so it's rough as a camel's armpit. Just applying meat to the bones of the plot, seeing where it takes me and whether something viable will come of it.

Finished!
Short story: Better Doors
Genre: Sci-fi
Word Count: 3,211
Status: Conceived of this story a year or so ago, finally got to writing it. It only took a couple of hours altogether. Now I've edited it, printed it out, and tomorrow I'll walk it down to the post office.

Unfinished
Novel: The Waker (working title)
Genre: Contemporary fantasy (No mythical creatures or magic per se, but there are certain things that would never happen in real life, though it takes place in the modern day)
Word Count: 3,276
Status: Going well, I only started it today. I only just came up with the idea a few days ago, but already it's grown massive. There are a ton of ideas in my notes, and it seems it has a chance of being my longest novel yet, or at the least my second longest.

It's been a lazy couple of weeks. I was camping for 7 days, so that's why. But I'll be back to writing every day now.
