A better day today. Up nearly 10k today, and with 20k to go, I'm not even sure I'm at 50% yet... Way need to rethink my projected word count, and maybe eat into my one planned actual day off per week :devilish: Keepin pluggin away though.

Another 8-9k added today, and I figure I'm about half way, so I've upped the projected wordcount by 20k, and we'll go from there :)
The writing is going pretty well, and some nice character relationships have developed that I didn't plan for exactly (my two main characters, guy and a girl, have started to developed their really close non-romantic bond, that while I didn't plan it, it fits so perfectly). Should Easily pass NaNoWriMo level after day 6 tomorrow... But I fear with upping my word count for book 1 (usually the shortest) I might need to up the rest as well, so total could go from 240k in 2 months, right up to 360+ for 4 novels... Which I'm not sure I can manage if that's the case...(n)

Status: Day Seven

I missed a day updating my wordcount the other day, thankfully not missed writing. So far I haven't had a day off from one work or another and oddly i dont feel drained. Who knew. So day six brought me up passed 50k to 53,750, and I have just added another 9k for Day Seven bringing my total up to 62,603.

So I'm already passed my projected word count for the whole project, and I'm thinking that 20k should still be enough to see me to the end of book one, but look at my last estimate.

But with 2 Weeks set aside for each book and it being 9 days(??) now I'm still just about on target day-wise, to finish by march, even if word-wise it seems a bit much.

Word Count: 80,853 of projected 90k
Start Date: 1st January 2016
Projected End Date: 1st March 2016

Status: Day Nine

Another two days of writing done and one day of job. Both days have been in the 9k region, and that brings me up to 80,853. So with tomorrow being my last day allowed for book 1 (two weeks per book) I'm sitting actaully pretty nicely. The scenes I have left should be a good days work, maybe another 10k? (perhaps just over a day's work, but I'm finishing it tomorrow!) So I've upped the revised word count to 90k for a first draft... And that's it!

So taking me right to the wire for my alloted time, but to be fair i will have written an extra 50% than my original plan. It still remains to be seen if I can keep this up for the next books as well, 8-9k average per day, or even if the books are going to be longer/shorter than this one. Who knows yet. But I'm enjoying it, finally getting some good words down on e-paper. It's the only way I'm going to get through all the stories in my head :)

Word Count: 90,162 of projected 90k
Project Start Date: 1st January 2016
Project End Date: 1st March 2016

Book 1, Beneath Imagined Skies, finished on 14th January 2016.

Status: Day Ten

So Day Ten rolled around pretty quickly. Doesn't feel like I've been doing this for two weeks, but I'm happy to say that one quarter of my challenge is now out of the way with almost exactly one quarter on my two months time limit!

Beneath Imagined Skies was finished just now and came it around hundred words above my projected word count (though not my first projected word count, I shot past that a while ago).

I'm moving straight onto book two in this series maybe tommorow, or if I desevre a day off, it will be Sunday (i have my pesky day job on Saturdays!). Maybe those two days will give me enough time to come up with a working title for book two.

Genre: Fantasy mostly
Word Count: 8,066 of projected 60-90k
Start Date: 15th January 2016
Projected End Date: 29th January 2016

Book 1 Finished: Beneath Imagined Skies, 1st-14th January 2016.

Status: Day One (Eleven?)

So I decided a day off wasn't in my plans, Though it wasn't a full day of work either. I had life take over for an hour or two and I took more breaks than usual (in lieu of my day off).

My projected word count for this project is wild because... Who knows after book 1 took word steroids and veered off my plan. I suspect it will be close to the 90k mark as well though.
Off to a good start, and this one is much quicker to start, both in terms of plot and because I've already met my characters, rather than just read their online dating profie (by which i mean my planned character notes, of corse).

Status: Day Three

Day two brought me up just 7,500 words or so, by quite a way my worst day or writing since I started on new years day. But then I did have a large cold, and was stuffed into a cave of blankets with hot water bottles and tissues covering me head to toe. So maybe that isn't a bad word count considering. Today, besting the last remnants of my cold, I got back on the ball and keyed in 47 words shy of 10k. That included an unplanned scene as well, which is also a first for this series.

My scene plan tells me I'm over a quarter of the way, so at the moment I'm looking at hitting around 80 for a completed draft, and I'll take it from there as the word count gets higher. I think in terms of character growth (specifally my lead female character, has a great arc in this book, if (big if of course:p) I can pull it all off) and the fact that events have been put in motion for books 3 and 4 already, this is my favourite of the series.

So a day off for work and two days writing again have seen jump to hopefully around the halfway mark at over 40k. Certainly it feels like about the midway mark from my scene plans and what's happened so far. All writing is going well, though my back does start to hurt from sitting hunched on my couch and over my laptop all day, even despite my frequent snack/stretching breaks.
I go through stretches of writing maybe anywhere from a thousand slow words an hour, to nearly 2.5k if I'm in the frame of mind and I, or something at least, knows what words are going to slot onto the page. Though those are usually the exciting argument scenes, where my fingers becomes the angry characters, and if I'm being honest I probably tell myself I deserve a small break after writing on of those scenes!

It's hard work, all this typing big numbers into the Chrons thread:whistle:

And the editing. I thought I had missed a scene towards the end, but can't see it, so does that mean it's unnecessary? Possibly...

Need to look at chapter breakdown, do that next...then I suppose I'll go through it again.

Someone once said a book is never finished, it's abandoned. I think I agree with that, but don't feel like abandoning this one just yet...

Oh, I wrote a few hundred words on the sequel's prologue, but still haven't finished it. I changed the sequel's title from Island of Death to The Skylanders of Draviis.

I haven't set a word count total for either, letting the story dictate the length, but Skylanders will be longer...

Another two days of writing done has seen me add close to 20k. And though book twos are usually longer, (right?) there is a possibility that this one might be finished tommorow, or certainly on wednesday (Tuesday is a work day) If that's the case then I think 80 is either about right, or slightly high, for the first draft finish, and it might come in at around 75k?

Today was quite a slow day actaully. I think I blitzed through about the last 5k in 2-3 hours as it was a really intense couple of scenes and real quick writing. But the rest of the day had more breaks than usual... Still made I think my best daily count so far though!

I might even get myself a day's rest before picking up with book 3. I did some maths the other day. If each book is taking 14 actual days To write, then I might have around 3 real live days off to play with. Especially if I finish book 2 a day early! That would be the real bees knees :D

I wish I could write that fast...but how many spelling mistakes and other mistakes are you making?

You have to remember Im writing this fast because i have taken time off work specifically to do this, i have to make it worth the cut in pay, and have set goals for myself to achieve. Im writing 7-8 hours a day, after already planning very thoroughly for the last few months.

And also, as for spelling mistakes there are too many to count, really  They're for sorting out after I get the draft down.

Probably best not to look in the first draft! @LittleStar, I love that title!

Anyhow I was working at Galaxy of Flowers and got about eight chapters in when - exciting! - final edits for Sunset Over Abendau came in. They're reasonabky straightforward so I have another 100 pages or so to tweak and then a readthrough on the ipad and then it's over to editorial for another review, a copy editing, formatting and nice things and then out to the readers for their verdict (still terrifying, that...)

Meanwhile first, high level edits on Waters and the Wild arrived on Friday so that's lined up to be reviewed in Feb, between tweaks on Sunset, and them book 3 needs a big review and at least one last beta (I didn't want to move to the final version until I was sure Sunset's plot stood up.)

I also have a couple of commissioned shorts to write, some blogs, an interview with a certain huge-selling US debut author and a day to run celebrating women writers in NI (and 2 readings to prepare for that.) plus interviews for Sunset to finalise. And a job. And kids. And I shall have to ensure I carve out some me time - no more weekend writing for a while, I think.

So, realistically it will be at least early summer before I get back to Galaxy but I still hope to have it on submission towards the end of the summer.

Busy, busy, busy.

Having done the second draft I did what I promised to do, worked out where I start my chapters and to a degree, how they finished. Or was it the other way around. Of course, doing so, I had to move one or two bits, rewriting one passage and even writing in an entirely new scene.

Too late to do anything more. (Timewise, almost midnight).
