The Colour of Magic AND The Light Fantastic coming to Sky One!

I think Jackie Chan will be good for Twoflower, he's got this silly funny good natured side.

I want them to do night watch stories into film!!! it would kick ass! but only if they do it right, actors and sticking to the book and such. it would rock.

David Jason as rincewind! Never! Definitely too old. Not being ageist here but rincewind is late forties early fifties oldest. Wasn't even cast right in Hogfather in my opinion. Twoflower is an oriental fellow (read interesting times) Worried that if they are going to miscast so early on what are they gonna do to the witches.

David Jason? Darn, the films are already spoilt for me! I thought he was already miscast as Albert, but Rincewind? IMO, he would be ideally cast as CMOT Dibbler! (I hated Only Fools and Horses - with a passion, but can't you just see an aging Del-boy as Dibbler?) :D

friends and I discussing casting for years, came up with mr depp as rincewind

I have to say it's really put me off it as well

No doubt I'll watch it but I'm not that excited about it

I really don't understand the casting decisions! I thought the reason why it had taken so long to get any live action Discworld films was that pTerry was very protective of his books, and wouldn't let people film them unless he was entirely happy with what they had planned?

Has he said anything about this publicly? It would be interesting to hear his views...

Whilst I'll be eager to watch it, as it's Discworld, I can't think of any way that this is not bad casting. Not that the actors aren't great, just not for those roles!

IMDB has many more...

Christopher Lee as the voice of Death seems almost obvious, but Sean Astin as Twoflower? Are we back to the days of Charlie Chan? Tim Curry is pretty much typecast as wild-eyed villain these days, so be ready for a slice of ham, though James Cosmo probably should be okay as Weatherwax. As for David (Argus Filch) Bradley as Cohen, I hope he's heading down to the gym! At least Peter Copley, at 92, should be ideal as Spold.

(And do I need to comment on Stephen (Banjo) Marcus' and Nicholas (Nobby Nobbs) Tennant's reprisals in another role?)

Edit, too late:
(And do I need to comment on Stephen (Banjo) Marcus', Nicholas (Nobby Nobbs) Tennant's, Geoffrey (Mr Brown) Hutchins' and Arthur (Ernie the Tooth Cart Driver) White's reprisals in another role? They seem to have borrowed the Hogfather cast wholesale...)

which makes using DJ as Rincewind even more bizarre!

Gosh, you're right! He'd be a perfect CMOT Dibbler! I really can't see him as Rincewind (I picture him exactly as Kidby does in his illustrations, very skinny and feeble-looking), but on the website, Jason does say that it's a dream role for him, and he clearly loves the character a great deal, which I hope will come across in his performance.

in some ways, the casting of this reminds me of the casting for Judge Dread, which was a comic story I loved.
to me JD should have been played by someone like Clint Eastwood and I was horrified to learn that Sly Stalone had got the part, yet I did enjoy the film for all its flaws
