He's old enough to shave?

I keed, I keed

1. Jon
2. Tyrion
3. Jaime
4. Davos
5. Tywin (I hated him, but I loved doing it)

mine would be:

1. Olenna Tyrell
2. Arya Stark
3. Arianne Martell
4. Sandor Clegane
5. Oberyn Martell

Honourable mentions to: Doran Martell, Tywin Lannister, and Sansa Stark (only on the character she appears to be becoming - a player in the game of thrones, one with a master to teach her).

top 5 are:

1. Tyrion. a classic.
2. the crows eye
3. Jaqen Hgah.
4. Barristan Selmy
5. Jaime

Ha! Does Wisconsin always buck the trends?

Corn!

That would be CHEESE, not corn. LOL.

Dany solidified the #1 spot now that she burned and chopped up the slave traders. Best part of the books so far.

well...
tyrion
sendor clegane
littlefinger
jaime
varys
in no particular order
I really liked the roads jaime, tyrion and sendor took, now villains now noble knights (although they find that title uncomfortable) and very complex human beings.
the other two are the pillars of the game- chaos and order. much of the story so far is of their design

Its a hard one, i put them in no paticular order.

Stannis, in some way i loved his character he is the reluctant king, bound by tradition and also even if he wont admit, very petty. But i do love his "Im not king because i want to be, i am because its my right.

Davos, The advisor, the lowbown, the smuggler, here we have the character with no real ambition and this makes him the one that all the hard task end up at, so i just love that he cant catch a break, thing always escalate for him.

Jaime, Well he is the one that find redem, ption and decided to bring back the chivalry, we all know have died in Westeros, so whatever jaime will fall into his old ways again will be fun to see and he is just a great character to read about.

Tyrion, the intrigue the honor the ambition and yet he just cant win because all hate him so, even if he would be the greatest Hand they could ever see, so i love him trying to do good and no one ever achknowledge it, he just get confronted with his looks and not his actions.

Podrick, a guilty pleasure of mine always love Podrick, he is the most pathetic character, but when the chips are down, he is the most loyal, i loved how after Tyrion flees and Sansa escapes, he dosnt even concern himself if they are guilty and such he is just sad because they left him, he is the golden retriever of the series, loyal to the end.

Honorable mentions.
The Cleganes, those two are great.
Beric Dondarrion and Thores.
Started to like Melisandre after rereading.
And most of the Nightwatch.

Totally offtopic : As of late, i have been seeing the Nightwatch like the GRRM version of Eriksons bridgeburners+bonehunters. Badasses together.

I haven't read the books in a while and have never re-read them so my memory is a bit rusty. I am waiting for all the books to come close to coming out before I start rereading from the beginning. Based on my current reads and memory (most of book 3) here are my five favorite characters.

1)Eddard Stark
2)Jon Stark
3)Tyrion Lannister
4)Bronn
5)Jaqen Haghar

If I had more choices to work with I would have put in Mandoon Moore and the Old Bear's son, I forget his last name but remember almost everything else about him... this topic isn't about the most interesting, innovative, and all-around kewlest characters, but I have to give praise to the red priest of Myr!

Wiggs, I'm old enough to shave, but I only have to once a month... it's a genetic thing.

2)Jon Stark
Prav, You're jumping the gun here. He's still Jon Snow as far as we know.

Favorite characters:
1) Aegon
2) AryaUnderfoot
3) Wiggum
4) TK
5) Kiwi

Oh, oh, oh. You meant in ASOIAF?

1) Tyrion. Personality. Chutzpah. Motivation. Intellect. Pragmatic, yet a dreamer.
2) Jaime. Hubris. Tragically flawed. Tarnished. Revels in dishonor, yet now wants to reclaim his integrity.
3) Catelyn. I know you're all slack jawed at this one, but she's such an intriguing character. She's full of hate, love, depression, hope, intelligence, foolishness, encouragement, and cruelty. Usually male authors write women poorly, very poorly. But Catelyn is a very complex character... I can't resist her even though she makes the bile rise in my throat! I'm probably more like her than I'd really care to admit.
4) Eddard. Here's another shocker for you guys. Eddard exemplifies manly stoicism, endurance, integrity, and fidelity. He was a family man. He was a leader. The realm was unworthy of Eddard and his gifts.
5a) Jorah and Sandor. Both men are haunted by personal demons. Neither knows how to let go of the past and live in the present.
5b) Varys and Littlefinger. Enigmatic. Consumate players. Ruthless. Thorough.

Favorite supporting supporting characters:
1) Dolorous Edd. "You cheer me," said Edd, sounding utterly morose.
2) Shagga, son of Dolf. "Dolf fathered warriors not barbers!"
3) Vargo Hoat. "Kingthlayer, you are my captivth."
4) Lord Walder. "You're noisy that's for sure."
5) Bronn. "Seems like he'd do whatever he was told, as a good king should."

Favorite hotties:
1) Dacey Mormont. One moment she's fully armored and the next she's all in silks.
2) Shae. I don't need truth, I prefer illusion.
3) Arianne. Princess Wild Thing.
4) Alayaya.
5) Lyanna.

Like I said...it's been a while since I read the books. However since Jon would normally inherit the last name of his father --If the ******* title did not apply-- he might as well retain the byname of "Stark" as it is known his hereditary father is Ned Stark. Unfortunantly I suppose Martin's substantial backdrop and rich history set for Jon's world won't give me leeway to do that, now will it. :D

No it won't. But the subtler points are that 1) it appears that Robb legitimized Jon before he died, so he may end up as Jon Stark, 2) Stannis has offered to legitimize Jon and coupled with Robb's will and the reorganizing of the geography of the Night's Watch mayhaps Jon will become Lord Stark, and 3) most of us believe that Jon was not Eddard's *******, but Rhaegar's.

Rhaegar's parentage could result in Jon Targaryen if Rhaegar and Lyanna legally married before Jon's birth. If Rhaegar did not marry Lyanna, then Jon should have been named for wherever the Tower of Joy is located. If Dorne, then Jon Sand. If the Reach, then Jon Flowers.

The last comments were frivolous. But your silent point that Jon resembles Eddard in far more than looks is well taken.

Also, if Jon is not Eddard's son and if the North needs a strong hand and if Jon does not wind up with Daenarys and if Bran and Rickon are dead, then mayhaps he'd marry Sansa or Arya and rule the North as Lord Stark.

Bran better *not* be dead. I've suffered too many of his mind-numbingly whiny chapters for him to be dead. He'd better end up doing something awesomely heroic because I and other readers have certainly paid the price of reading his chapters. That kid better cleanse the Taint or destroy the One Ring or score the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl or something.

yuk...
Jon and Arya or Sansa for that matter...
the mental image...
please...
anyway, Snow, Flower, Sand Targaryn or Stark, Jon is a sworn brother of the night watch sole and hart. he is the lord commander, the shield that guards the realm of man. committed by the killing of the half hand and by the voice of his brothers.
Something really big should happen before he resigns his responsibility. legitimization by Stennis wasn't big enough. I think the dragons might, in pitched battle against the others and the realm in danger and marriage to Dany the only answer , but nothing shorter than that

Oh come now. Bran is the most "knightly" of all the characters with a POV and through him, we say life in the North while Robb was away at war, the invasion by the Ironmen, the sacking of Winterfell, the greendreams, the ability to warg and soon beyond the Wall with the Children of the Forest, the Three-Eyed Crow, the Others...and eventually summer. Bran is exanctly that: Summer and represents the hope that has faded that things may turn out for the better.

Bran will do something heroic. I certainly have enjoyed his POV and I am sure I am not alone.

Yeah, and he whines the entire time. I just don't find his chapters fun at all. I'm halfway through A Clash of Kings and there hasn't been a single Bran chapter I've enjoyed. If I find one I'll let you know and give him credit. He's just not my cup of tea I guess.

Well, I suppose if you were the kid that all sort of "forgot" because you're not the oldest, or strongest, or prettiest, or youngest, or marrying age, or tallest, or heir, you would lament your position as well. I also suppose that loosing your ability to walk forever and thus dashing the dreams of a young boy of becoming a knight would add to the "whine" factor.

I just thought you were being a bit harsh. My point is that while you may not like Bran himself as a character because, well, he's an 8-year old boy strapped to the back of a giant who can only say "Hodor", his POV may indeed be the most important of the entire series when it comes time to wrapping things up, defeating the Others, oh, and bringing back Spring/Summer (hence the title of the last book A Dream of Spring).

Meh.

Yeah, what happened to him sucks and my first time through A Game of Thrones I felt sorry for the kid. But I still don't need to hear about it every other paragraph. Yeah, I get it, he wanted to be a knight and now he can't. I agree with you that some important outside events happen in his chapters. I never said I skipped them. They're just of poor quality to me because of Bran himself. Certainly not of the quality of, say, a Tyrion chapter or even a Catelyn.

You could also make the argument that Arya has been a bit forgotten by everyone, too. You don't see her whining about it (well, just a tiny, tiny bit). Instead she solves her problems by stabbing people, the way God intended ;).

If we can all a stalwart convinction and just take our lumps.

Like I said, Bran's POV may in the end, be the most significant of all.

I like them all, but given only five choices.

1. Sandor Clegane
2. Jon Snow
3. Jaime Lannister
4. Tyrion Lannister
5. Daenerys Targaryen

It's so hard to choose though. I love Bran's storyline and Arya's really kicked up in ASOS. Robb, even though not a viewpoint, is really good. Davos is the least interesting because Stannis is just so irritating, but his storyline is epic really. Varys is interesting. His speech to Eddard in the first book sold me on Varys being a truly three dimensional character.

It's just so hard to choose. GRRM rocks.

Boaz, it is clearly stated in the books that Jon is indefinently Eddard's son. You are merely arguing for my sake. Assume the book never mentioned Jon as being Ned's son, the similarities, oppositions, and lineament of physichal traits and character are absurdly similar on Ned's part rather than some predominantly brilliant-haired, and metallic-eyed Targaryen.
