What literary delights are you delving into this December?

Connavar, if you're enjoying this one, you've got a great treat in store as you go through the series....

I know, im already afraid of its gonna end soon and i dont have other RM and Archer books.

I like his way of showing the world of Archer. Its an evolution of Chandler and co. I like very much too that Archer isnt smooth operator alà Marlowe when it comes to lines and the ladies.

That's very true; Lew ends up in quite a different position more than a bit. If you like these, I'm pretty sure you'll like the Travis McGee books as well....

What i liked most having just finished the book was how dark the ending was. RM way of what evil is was interesting. It seemed to me like in other classic noir that rich people are more evil but here it was shown like an epidemic. Everyone can be evil. I like that view.

Also it was more suspenseful than most Hardboiled stories i have read. Everytime you thought someone was the killer, you saw there was someone much more suspect.

Have you read it? If so you remember who the killer was? It shocked me alittle that is not easy in this type of crime. Where usually its more about the cool though PI against the bad guys you can clearly see who they are.

Yes, I've read the entire series over the years, though most of them it's been quite a while. I reread The Moving Target about 3-4 years ago, and if anything, I feel it's even better the second time around....

A very quick one but a fantastic one.
The five people you meet in heaven - Mitch Albom. Brilliant!

I finished Deeper by Jeff Long today, and am about a fourth of the way through Engines of God by Jack McDevitt

Im reading Polaris by HP Lovecraft

After im done with the short story its time for Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett

I've just finished Downward to the Earth by Robert Silverberg. I almost gave up at the end of Chapter Eleven - I don't like protagonists who seem to want to do stupid things - but I'm glad I kept going: an interesting tale, well told.

Have just finished reading 'The Blade Itself' by Joe Abercrombie. I enjoyed it much more this time and am looking forward to his next two books. :D

Now I have started to read 'The Black God' by Greg Keyes. I used to be a member of his forum but have never read any of his books! This is a sequel to 'The Waterborn', seems to be 'dark fantasy'. Hopefully there will be lighter passages. :)

It's non-fiction, but I picked it up either last month or the month before and enjoyed the few bits I read, so I'm flicking through The Dictionary of Phrase and Fable by Ebenezer Cobham Brewer again whilst I'm deciding which book to read next.

Started re reading A Case of Conscience by James Blish. I tried before but was in the wrong frame of mind at the time. Parts are a bit hard going as one of the characters is a jesuit priest.

I've finally moved on to Ship of Magic, book one of Hobb's The Liveship Traders Trilogy. Started it last night, but I was tired so I only got the prologue and first chapter read. Yet already something from the second Fitz trilogy has clicked into place (Treasure Beach). :p

Term officially finished on Friday, so I thought I'd grab the chance before I have to start thinking about work again to do some recreational reading. So it's Soul Music by Terry Pratchett at the moment.

Done with Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. Now on The Language of God - A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief by Francis Collins (apparently, non-fiction)

I put away The Maltese Falcon to read Jim Thompson classic Noir book The Killer Inside me.

Dexter fans will like it ;)

Im reading it instead MF cause i have waited for it for a time and i just got it.

3/4ths of the way through Engines of God by Jack McDevitt. I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far. One of my favorite reads of the year. I'll probably be getting the whole series.
