Implications on Jon being LC

I was thinking on what would be the direct implications on jon being the LCotNW.

- Tormund Giantsbane seems to like Jon, paving the way (especially since Stannis new policy) for some sort of future alliance.
- The North has seen lots of death, destruction and chaos (though not so much as the riverlands). Wich means there are several people around with broken lives. There are the smallfolk, but also men-at-arms, knights (or the north's equivalent), would they upon hearing Ned stak ******* becoming LC seek shelter with him. Thus raising the number of men in the NW.
- Will Stannis (if one-sided- feel a sort of bond with Jon, like he feels with Davos, seeing as like Davos, Jon tells him the truth, wich Stannis seems to like.
- ....

I'm not sure about the last one...Stannis will bond with who Melisandre wants him to bond with at this point.

Jon's frankness with Stannis reminded me of Davos, too. However, I do not believe that Stannis values that character trait anymore. He values Melisandre's visions and their delusions.

Time and time again we see how Stannis values Davos, even in the chapters after Stannis has gone to the Wall we hear Stannis talk repectively of davis against Jon, so what makes you think he doesn't value those threats, as well as Davos anymore.

Melisandre has control over Stannis, but not total control.

I see a time when Stannis will stop valuing Mel's opinion so highly, especially since it has not brought him any closer to the Iron Throne but rather much further to the edge of the kingdom. This will be when Mel will kill Stannis and claim Jon to be Azor Ahai reborn.

TK, that's interesting. Melisandre's got to be growing tired of Stannis. Jon does seem a much better candidate, doesn't he? I mean, of course, a much better candidate for all of Melisandre's weird and twisted devotions. We can see that in Jon's ADwD chapter. It's probably pretty easy to have the hots for Jon... I can only imagine.

Melisandre is a woman grown though, whilst Jon is no more than 16 or so.
Most women dont fall for younger guys do they? She might be one of those i guess.

So, Drogo can like 14-year old girls, but Melisandre can't like young men? You were so eager to remind us that Jon is a man in his society.

Also, most women don't fall for their own brother, but some do. No matter how you justify things, we are still dealing with a rather twisted cast of characters here. Sure, you can aruge the context of the society and the times, but ultimately, most of these are some pretty effed up people.

Hmm. True. I think Melisandre is attracted to herself. And her piousness. But I think she may use her sexuality to try to manipulate Jon.

By the preview chapter, I think Mel is starting to like Jon alot. I don't Mel would associate piousness with sex. Something tells me she's no bishop.

Lately, i find myself more often not understanding posts.
In any case, i have indeed never been attacked by a cougar.

Yeah, I'm with Kiwi, that's why I own cats.

But I agree with TK, I don't think anyone can deny that there is a very heavily built in characteristic of female sexuality when it comes to Mel.

But the relationship between Stannis and Mel has always seemed a particularily odd thing in the books to me.

Dog can also be slang for a sneaky or unfaithful man. Dog is also used as contemporary slang between male friends to identify each other. Fox is seventies slang for a beautiful woman... even though it's archaic, people will know what you mean if you say it. Wolf is older slang for a man always looking for a woman. Cat was slang from the jazz and big band eras to describe an unflappable guy.

Soooo... Melisandre is a cougar. Brienne is a dog. Tom O'Sevens is a dog. Osmund might say to Osney, "What up, dog?" Cersei is a fox. Robert was a wolf. Littlefinger is one cool cat.

Hard to say, Kiwi. I want him to be a fantastic success... however, does it seem coincidental to anyone else that Jon is the 998th Lord Commander? Does that not lead to a perfect succession to 1000 before the series is through?

I've routed for Jon the entire time. Especially after a second read of the series. In all truth, I want Jon to be one of the ones that stands tall at the end, but in order to have a 999th or 1000th LC, Jon has to die, or somehow manage to leave the wall whilst holding his honor intact.

I wholeheartedly believe Jon will be in the Seventh Book, but to what extent, I cannot say...
