Favorite Mythical Beast?

The chinese style one you mentioned did rather prick my interest...though I'm a Chimera being all the way, I have taken great interest in dragons in my past, and I must say that one is on my favorite list when it comes to dragons

Well, I like dragons. too, but decided that for "favourite" it had to be feline.
A quick check showed that the Norse goddess Freyja had her chariot pulled by winged cats. Either this requires a lot of cats (and a high degree of uncertainty where you end up) or very large ones. And still a certain amount of uncertainty – they're cats, after all.
The real problem comes with the sand tray…

LOL! Don't tell LeGrosChat. He would apply for the job.

Il a des ailles?
Oedipuss would have qualified for that name – when he sat on your lap you weren't going anywhere till he decided it was time to move on.

Hey! Elves are not beasts!

When I was little, I used to adore Pegasus, and all kind of flying horses. Now I am particularly fond of wywerns (two-legged dragons).

In France--in the Franche-Comtée region, to be exact--this mythical beast is called "la Vouivre", from the Latin vipera, serpent.

Wywerns and vouivres are more serpentine than dragons.
I was going to put Wyverns; I just couldn't resist slurring politicians like that carpetbagger "representing" me in the House right now.
Wyverns also are more viable a possibilty in evolutionary terms. So if it is a mad scientist produced creature, Wyverns would be easier than dragons.
In English, wyvern, I believe comes from the same root possibly confusing the French with the English Wyrm(the wingless Firedrake).

call me a romantic but dragons all the way. gargoyles would have to be second.

Ah yes, Gargoyles are quite the interesting Creatures, eh? And yes, I must say Dragons a very popular, but that was much expected.

And I must say that Wyverns are pretty high in my own list. They intrigue me often.

After you see my latest thread you'll understand when I say the Minotaur!!

Like I originally stated, I rather take a liking to the Minotaur myself. They're a close second to my beloved Chimera

As with others there's just so many but the Kraken would have to be right up there and I'm also partial to any killer plant life :)

hehe, yeah I know this looks cheesy now...but this gigantic humanoid lizard thing (Kraken) summoned by poseidon himself when Zeus gets annoyed and wants to lay waste to some puny kingdom:)...gave me real scare way back when I was a kid. In fact, Clash of the Titans is one of the first fantasy movies I remember watching and remember being both horrified and fascinated at the same time every time this monster came up for lunch.:D

Cheers, DeepThought

Love that movie Deep Thought. Have it on DVD and watch it still. Was one of the firt fantasy movies I went to as well.

Mythical beasts ... hard to choose. I was going to go with felines but that just feels wrong. I've collected dragons for as long as I can remember and love them all, especially Chinese five-clawed ones (bought a dragon teapot today :))

Am also head over tail in love with Ithaqua the Wind Walker and the Kraken. All that vastness whether of snow or water and these two living in them. It's been a long-time fascination.

By far my fav mythical beast is --

THE BEAST OF CAER BANNOG!!!

OK, it's just a rabbit, but beware!!
