Marvellous March Manuscripts? So what are you reading this month?

There's been a fair few reads this month.

I am currently reading Cast in Secret by Michelle Segara and I will probably finish it tonight. During this month of March I have also read the other two books in the series, Cast in Shadow and Cast in Courtlight.

It made me realise that I really shouldn't judge a book by it's cover as I have never been interested in such books (urban fantasy) due to their title and specifically the book covers, which seem to have an air of "teeny bopper" about them.

I started and finished the Study series by Maria V. Snyder, which included Poison Study, Magic Study and Fire Study. Fantastic.

Earlier on I completed reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and I can't recommend it enough. Excellent book.

I have also read Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews and Magic lost, Trouble Found by Lisa Shearin.

I have enjoyed everything I have read this month, which means an excellent month of purchases that have added different things to my book collection. There's probably a few more I have missed out, but those should do for now.

I'm just starting Splinter by Adam Roberts, I thought i'd give him another try after being slightly dissapointed with The Snow.

Michell Sagara (West) is one of my favorite authors. I enjoy all her series, in particular the Sunsword books.
I've also read Poison Study and quite liked it. I din't realise that there are 2 more books. I'll need to pick those up.

Finished Farnham's Freehold by Heinlein. I'm still digesting the story but this was my favorite line:

....He folded back the sheet, looked Karen over, and palpated her swollen belly. "Has he been kicking?"

"Has he! I'm going to sign him up with the Green Bay Packers. I think he's wearing shoes."....

Started Something Wicked This Way Comes by Bradbury. I accidentally read From the Dust Returned several years ago without knowing it was a sequel and had absolutely no idea what was going on.

Finished Kim by Rudyard Kipling, then read an excerpt from the the Nibelungenlied, Siegfried's Murder, part of the Penguin Epics series (chiefly to see how the plot of the Sword of Xanten film differed). Now reading The End of the World News by Anthony Burgess.

I wouldn't call From the Dust Returned a sequel; in fact, I'd say any links are rather tenuous. From the Dust Returned is a late novel which brings together stories that nearly span Bradbury's career to that point, from "The Homecoming" (1946) to stories published only a few years before the book....

Having read Moorcock's The Winds of Limbo, I've now moved on to Wilkie Collins' The Moonstone. Though it's a reread, it's almost like the first time, as I've not read this one in 40 years now....

Have you read Tim Powers's Declare ?

Someone should have told me to read Kim before Declare since almost every chapter of Declare starts with a qoute from Kim and the book is mentioned by the hero like 1000s of times in his inner thoughts.

Oh yes. They're really good as well. I rolled through them in one go, and I'm sure it's the same for any fan hooked by the first.

Earlier in the month I read A Book of Skulls by Silverberg and I'm just after reading A Feast of Crows by Martin. I have just started On Stranger Tides and will read Moers and Abercrombie afterwards. A Books of Skulls was good but I just felt it ended a little flat and while I thought A Feast of Crows was my least favorite of the series, I still enjoyed it quite a bit and look foward to the next release (I think it's due in September). I've been wanting to read On Stranger Tides for awhile since hearing about it here so I finally got it and really enjoy it thus far. Moers has been highly recommended Lenny on the boards so I did pick them up and will get to them as well. Same with Abercrombie...lots of good things written here about him. Need to quit the Chronos for a bit because I can't afford the suggestions any longer. After every post read, I want to run out and get the books mentioned. Honestly, keep the amazing suggestions coming. More then half the books I now read come from recommendations made here. Thanks.
