GRRM's "Bad guys"

A very bad thing to do. While I agree with everyone about being able to understand Jaime better since we get to read his POVs...I still think he has a lot to make up for. I do like him now though, but I will like him better if he continues standing up to Cersei and prove himself with the Kingsguard.

And hi from me too...welcome to our forum. Check the rest of the place out, you'll find some interesting characters around here.:D

Too true, Septon, too true. I think Jaime has been pretty delusional about his actions until the third book, though. I mean, he claimed that what he did to Bran was done for love. He's done a lot out of love for Cersei, and for his father, that has been reprehensible. Nevertheless, I think he's finally growing up and taking stock of what he's done, and I predict that his soul-searching will really come to fruition in the next few books.

I'm not saying I'm a big fan; I just think his character-development is something to behold.

I am in the belief that in the Lannister family there has always been one person who has seen things or done things outside of the loop. Before it was Tyrion. I believe Jaime is going to fill those shoes now. I can't say I have always liked Jaime but it would really suck without him in the book; he will also imho make some contributions in the future that will be very good to read.

As for the "good of the realm," I think Varys doesn't give a hoot who rules, so long as the nation doesn't completely crumble.
Which is where my curiousity is peaked... Why? Why why why why? He's not even from Westeros, what brought him there?

Definitely...and the start he's made so far if a step in the right direction...

Varys begs the most questions. Who employs the man? That's where the answers lie.

You know, it has never really occurred to me to ponder the reason for Varys' efforts for the crown. I always figured that he just did what he did best, as it verified his worth. Plus it goes without saying that he savors the power he holds over others.

You two have given me a lot to think about. Not a good idea this early in the morning.:D

Ha :)

Varys has actually been the one character which has bugged me and bugged me throughout the whole series. We know nothing of this guy, and then the little bits you do get serve only to make you even more curious...I'm especially curious as to who he was talking to about Ned when Arya overhead.
Does he have to have an employer Lace? I'm not so sure, so far all the snippets I've read tend to suggest something a bit less simple than a man following orders. Varys is behind so much, yet seems to be working with a group or something... I dunno, its almost like a secret society to me.

Bah! He's just one big enigma to me!
*chews lip in frustration*

*Warning possible spoiler* ...... Does anybody realize that Varys is affiliated with Magister Illrio.Arya runs into these 2 when she is chasing cats in kings landing(Arya chapter in AGOT pg338).Arya overhears Varys and Illyrio discussing Ned finding one of Roberts bastards and the likelyhood that he will discover the truth of the Baratheon children .They are extremely worried that the wolf and the lion will go to war before they are "ready"(probably want to put Dany on the throne). There are other interesting tidbits in this chapter as well.If you search out the 1st character discriptions of Varys and Illyrio they are the same as Arya's discription of the "wizard" and "juggler".Surprisingly Arya never actually meets Varys any time in this book other than this time that she sees him in the dark. Varys is most likely a Targaryen agent probably always has been.Although I have my suspicions that he was key in getting rid of mad king Aerys, most likely to have seen Rhaegar take the throne. So much for that.

Ser Jorah is also a pawn of Varys, and was directed to keep Dany out of harm's way after Robert sent hired knives after her. I think Varys is waiting to see if Dany will be a good ruler or not. He has the means to have her disposed of if he decides she's not.

Actually... if I lived in WV I believe the eunuch solution would enhance the situation.:D

Yes.... which one was your brother... LOL JK.:D The blond kid with the banjo rocks.

Well in keeping with the apparent culture there, if one of them was my brother he'd also be my boyfriend. But I live in California where nothing bad happens, except for the occasional Austrians getting elected.

Of couse nothing bad happens in Cali... LOL. BTW... on the topic of Deliverance, I really do admire those "hinged" teeth.. thats great. I need to get ahold of that dentist when I get older.:D
