What book covers have had an impact on you? Which ones did you love? Which ones did you hate? Post them here! :)

To get us started here are a couple that caught my eye that I liked...

That Name of the Wind cover doesn't really strike me as owt special, i'm sorry to say. but here's one that always makes me grin.

Just look at the little legs!

No reason to be sorry, to each his own. :) I think I like it because I thought the original cover (at least on the book I have) wasn't very good. I thought this one was better, and I like the monochrome coloring of it and the blue tint. I am a fan of blue in pretty much any shade. :)

Times like this I wish all my books weren't in boxes.

It seems a bit cliche now but when I was just getting into fantasy the cover for The Dragon Reborn was the one that made me pick up what I then thought of as a brick of a book and have a closer look, its about the only one I liked from these WOT covers but I still think it's great artwork. With Dune I just loved the idea of riding atop of one of those worms :).

Wow that Erikson cover really is different, enough so that if I didn't know anything about Erikson I'd definitely pick the book up to see what it was about.

and I've liked most of the Masterworks covers I've seen (with the exception of Childhood's End) I was going to add the Masterworks cover for Behold the Man to my first post but I couldn't find a good picture of it.

If you would like to have any of the other covers for Masterworks put up let me know. I have the entire collection for SF and Fantasy Masterwork, just part of my modest library....;)

Hmm don't be suprised if a small marsupial knocks on your door one day with a recliner and a flask of coffee :).

I've only seen a few dozen so how about a selection of your favourites?

I very rarely pay attention to book covers, but this caught my eye the other day. I wouldn't buy it just because of the cover, but I do enjoy Hoffman, so who knows, it may end up on my shelf one day soon.

I like that Deadhouse Gates cover.

I was on Tad Williams site (as I am currently reading The Dragonbone Chair) and noticed the cover for this book in Sweden:

which looked eerily similar to this one by Robin Hobb: :)

Maybe this happens often, but it was the first time I had seen the same cover art used by two separate authors.

I've seen it happen, but not often. I remember seeing this cover on another book, but the title of the other one escapes me.

It happened with a Michael Slade book too. The hardcover copy of his book, Bed of Nails, was published back in 2003.

Two years later, and Jeffrey Deaver's book The Twelfth Card comes out using the same piece of art, albeit cropped and colour-toned differently.

A MASSIVE tall ship! How cool is that?

Plus, it reminds me of Turner's paintings, and my dad and I have always been a fan of his.

How is that book, by the way? I have been wondering. I find the painting quite strange, as the big ship and the little ones are almost identical, but so massively different in size.

In abut a month from now I'll be posting pics of the library so watch this forum...:D

Oh, the book is brilliant! I haven't read anything quite like it. No characters/POVs bored me, and by the time I got to the end I wished there was more. I have to say, I hadn't enjoyed a book quite that much in a while. Plus, the style is very easy to read. As soon as book two comes out, I'm buying it.

And the idea of a massive ship interests me. It's like a floating city - with a great mystery behind it.

Based on that cover and your recommendation (well, and checking out the reviews at amazon) I just ordered the book, Leisha.

Yay! I think you won't be disappointed. Robert's a fabulous author. John Jarrold (his agent) said he knew he would take the man on before he'd even finished reading the manuscript, and I can see why). Oh, I'm so pleased someone's trying it! :)

(Although the editor in me kept spotting all the hardback book typos, since there were some glaring ones.)

I must admit that not many book covers have a positive impact on me, but I tend not to judge a book... (you know the rest).

As a youth I loved the work of Chris Foss and he was pretty much the top artist for SF paperbacks of the day. How can you go past this...?

By the way can anyone suggest any sites to find covers or information about older SF books? I've tried Fantasticfiction, Abebooks and Googled for way way to long .
