Book Covers

The Jack Vance one was the first SF cover that i thought was amazing and actually looked similar to what happens in the book.

The Tim Powers one is a cool one and i ordered my copy of the book with that cover despite it was very expensive. First cover that sold me a certain version of book.

A MASSIVE tall ship! How cool is that?

Plus, it reminds me of Turner's paintings, and my dad and I have always been a fan of his.

Sooooo nearly bought this today and the other day... oh and last week... really should follow my instincts sometimes!!! Looks like I'll be making a Bank Holiday trip to Waterstones... Thanks for tip Leish! :)

The covers of Joe Abercrombie's series The First Law. I really like the feel of them, like parchment. Parchment with charred edges and drops of blood.

I hope you like it too! Maybe sometime I should start a thread on it. The book's definitely worth it.

I'm tempted to buy the Red Wolf Conspiracy now! I should really finish reading the books I have first...

I like the cover of The Lies of Locke Lamora. Though I started reading the book ages ago and then moved on to something else and haven't picked it up since.

I fell in love with this cover and then I read the book and it was magnifique:

These intrigued me and which prompted me to pick up their books:

Oh and I loved the look of the Red Wolf Conspiracy and it was a great book too.

I've got Priestess of the White in my to-read pile! I read her debut series, The Black Magicians Triliogy, and I was very impressed (excpept for the rushed ending). I love Canavan's characterisations; I really "felt" for the characters.

That's why I'm eager to try this new series of hers. My friends said she read and love it, and she also loved Black Magicians.

As for Lynch, I still haven't got past page 70 something. I put the novel down a few tiems and have yet to pick it back up...

I also have The Blade Itself in my to-read pile. I'm stuck which book to try after the current one I'm on.

Just looking at my copy of The Lies of Locke Lamora now and it looks like I only reached page 37... so you did better than me, Leisha!

I liked the Black Magician trilogy too but didn't fancy her next lot. I dunno why.

Yes, I'm dubious because I know gods are in Priestess of the White. But I value my friend's opinion, and she says I'll like the book. And Canavan's definitely good at plots and chracters!

Heh. And that makes me feel good (about Lies of Locke Lamora). I mean, I did keep at it. But nothing was grabbing me... and I couldn't identify with the characters... However, one day I'll read the rest. Several people here have told me the ending is fantastic and the tale speeds it's way there for the last part.

Yeah I was recommended it here... I'll finish it one day!

I might try Priestess of the White. I do like Trudi Canavan.

I say definitely read the rest of the Age of Five as the story only gets stronger in my opinion.

As for Lynch, get past the first bit and before you know it, you find a truly delicious story.

I'm reading the Blade Itself right now. Not too bad so far.

I'm now stuck between Lynch, Baker and Rothfuss for what to read next, if I went by which cover I prefer it would be Rothuss, then Lynch then Baker

I loved The Blade Itself if that helps Leisha

One of the most memorable book covers from my youth:

I think I was about 10 when I was given this collection of short stories, and the image of that &@#$% huge alien made a big impression.

Rothfuss is REALLY good. And I will add Brent Weeks offering to that. ;)
They're all in the same vein of fun and interesting writing.

I've always loved the pulp art. That's why I collect. The Weird Tales is the first appearance of Conan.
