Eastercon 2009, Bradford, 10-13 April

Will do when I get the time. In summary, I think it's fair to say that it was really good.

I went on the saturday with Mrs Tein. It was interesting although I was surprised how low key it was as far as the hotel was concerned. No signage to the event etc.

Looked at the artshow which had some quite good entries.

watched the steampunk film which I thought was really good considering the budget of 9000.

Sauntered round the bookshop. The most popular thing were the two headed cuddly toys.

The thing I really enjoyed, although the sound system was rubbish, was the John Jarrold interview. The venue was poor too as the door seemed to be opening and closing all the time and every time it closed (by itself) there was a loud swish bump. which detracted somewhat. The sound system seemed to have had all the treble removed.

The content was very good though.

Met Nesacat and Marky Lazer for the first time.

Main highlights for me;

The concert by the National Festival Orchestra

Watching Dr Who with a few hundred other folks, who got the same jokes as me at the same time!

David Lloyd (Guest of Honour) talk.

Enter the Dragon's Lair panel.

Jon Courtenay Grimwood (Guest of Honour) talk.

The various launches of books Ian's, Liam's, John's, and Ian's & Roberto's joint effort (I am from now on "Just Sue" ;))

Meeting up with old friends and actually meeting old /new friends (old internet friends, now met face to face)

Having a rather strange "lunch" with my agent. (I was having a bowl of soup in the snack bar, when he joined me, along with his pint of lime and lemon, to chat about "things"! ROFL)

Met up with Morpheus42 again and met Nesacat and Marky Lazer.

Bumped into TEiN :) We watched the same steampunk film. TEiN: it's even better when you see the first few minutes - they played it again for the latecomers :)

Visited the art show, some very nice stuff there. Was tempted to splash out on one of the Jim Burns pieces, but Ian Whates had already sold me to many books and I couldn't carry any more ;)

Met Ian Whates and Tobytwo, although they probably never realised. Completely missed iansales and SJAB. We need a better meathod of identifying the chronics. Funny handshakes or badges of great big flashing neon headpieces or something.

Much enjoyed panels by David lloyd and Tim Powers. Also a great session of bad sex. :D

Multiple book launches (so much for my TBR pile going down this year).

Gained 2kg in weight. *sigh* back to the gym today.

Oh, and I'm now booked up for next years eastercon in London.

Sounds like a good time was had by all. Wish I could have made it down.

Yeah, Hoopy and I had a similar thought after last year's meet-up. We'll have to have a batch of Chrons T-shirts made up...:D

I will refuse to admit, until the end of my days, to have ever been in Bradford.

What you mean? Me not being in Bradford was any good? I expect it wasn't good for Bradford that I wasn't there. I know people everywhere are dying to see me; bad luck for the Bradfordonians, I guess.

Oh damn. I even went through Doncaster on my way up. Course, I was on a train, but I did have to change there, so had 15 minutes.

You're quite right ktabic -- I had no idea we met at all... Hope I wasn't rude or insulting in any way.

Funny handshakes or badges might be an idea... on the other hand, we could always try introducing ourselves! :)

A garment, a T-shirt or even a hat – sometimes places get crowded enough that you can't see down to chest level on our shorter members, which I proudly declare myself to be (OK, Morpheus could probably wear decorative knee-warmers and get away with it) – would be very handy, but what about those who represent several societies/sites?

As a High-Tech solution, what about a badge which beeps and starts flashing when it detects somebody on the same wavelength? A delegate could have half a dozen, and when one lit up you'd only have to look around for someone else looking desperately embarrassed…

The first time Pyan and I went to FantasyCon, we both had little badges with our usernames on (and little pictures of our avatars, seeing as we generally used the same ones at the time).

Giving a couple of details as to appearance before you go is somewhat useful, too -- it's how we found Who's Wee Dug!

Not at all. Nice and pleasant. Although somehow I did end up with seven NewCon Press books as a result . Mostly in hardback. Signed. Hmm.:)

What? Like talk to each other? With words? From our mouths? What a strange idea .

Haha, excellent, I'll get started on them right away...:D

Here's a simpler suggestion - use your chrons name as your badge name. Or ask the organisers if you can have a second badge with your chrons name on it.

Admittedly, some of us use our real names here, and on membership badges when we attend cons. So we're not difficult to spot.

Difficult at a distance, though, as badges are teeny. Although, I know there are some on here who prefer to 'dress' for cons, so a t-shirt or something similar would mellow thier groove.
