New GRRM Update on ADWD

Damn you, Imp! Also, that's not superstition. It's zodiacology. Or whatever. :D FYI, I'm a Fire Tiger.
i meant that a superstitious person might beleive that with 2012 being the year of the Dragon the book might be 'destined' to be published in that year

Not to be taken as an excuse for GRRM, but it's said that the world ends with 2012 (bullcrap, of course, the Aztecs couldn't count to 2013)

In this case, not a GRRM update but one from his editor, Anne Groell:

ADWD currently consists of over 1,000 'locked' manuscript pages which ain't getting changed again. GRRM has 'several hundred' more in various stages of completion, some for ADWD and some for the next book. She anticipates receiving the book in October or November, and if that happens she thinks Bantam can get it out by March 2010. The UK might get it a month earlier.

Thanks, Wert. Mayhaps HBO should cast you as one of the acolytes of the Citadel... you just fetch stuff and relay information... you're just so good at it.

And why do they get a month before we do?!? We speak the same damn language!!!

Arrrgh!!! No spoilers, do you hear?

I'll be ordering it from UK Amazon and ponying up the international shipping. I'll get it somehow!

Oh well, at least we get most movies released before they do on that side of the Atlantic.

I'm just glad that Canada always follows the same publishing and release dates as the US.

Except we pay more for the same book with little justification, especially when our dollars are close to parity, the books are often printed in Canada on paper made from Canadian trees...I'm looking at my copy of AGOT and it says $7.99 in the US and $11.99 in Canada...Oh, don't get me started.

Ah, yes TK. Siblings in the discrimination of our dollar, we are. However, at the time I bought AGOT, our dollar was around .65 US (1997 or thereabouts? I forget when AGOT was released). Right now (July, 2009) we sit at .92 US, and parity is expected by year's end, with the Canadian economy solid and the US economy still in the dumper. 18 months ago, one Canadian dollar bought 1.10 US dollars, and there was still a huge discrepancy in pricing at that time.

Still getting hosed, north of the 49th Parallel.

Good idea indeed.

I plan on being in London in March, so depending on when the book is released, may pick it up there.

Clansman: Yes, us hosers keep getting hosed on prices (except prescription drugs of course).

I really hope the audibook is available early in the UK, but I'm betting it won't be.

GRRM is planning to do a signing tour when it does come out in the UK, so you may be able to combine this with meeting the Man Himself.

That'd be great, TK.

By the way, how did the state of Canada get their own currency?
I live in the state of Colorado and we don't have our own currency.

The lowly loonie will again be soaring over the Eagle...

That's okay. Given the current state of things, with China holding about a trillion in US dollars due to the horrible trade deficit with that country, the US will soon be adopting the Yuan.;)

Canadians read more, in my experience. It seems regional, Stateside.

The loon is awesome.
