Richard K. Morgan

I'm just hoping he gets his fantasy writing out of his system. There are many good modern fantasy writers epic, heroic or other types. There arent many Richard Morgan in modern SF.

I've read Altered Carbon and quite enjoyed it. Question is, I've got Woken Furies waiting to be read, but should I read Broken Angels first?

I think you should because there are only 3 Takeshi Kovacs books. Broken Angels isnt as good as Altered Carbon but still Kovacs is an interesting guy to read about.

I think it would make sense to read them in order, although the books are pretty much stand-alones in terms of plot, Kovacs does evolve as a character throughout the series.

Yes: it really ought to be read in alphabetical order: Altered Carbon - Broken Angels - Woken Furies.

All this talk about Takeshi Kovacs books made me get Woken Furies from the bookshop today. I hope it can erase the disappointment of Broken Angels.

I also missed Kovacs, his twisted ways are nice breath of fresh air from Everyman, science heroes from other SF books.

I already enjoy the fact the paperback is over 640+ pages meaning its almost as big as the first two books together. Its a nice fat, long paperback.

Funny i went in to the story to buy Black Man which i thought about buying every time i saw it on the shelfs in the last few months but today they had brand new Woken Furies and no Black Man.

I heard him in an interview where he said the fantasy was a trilogy. The publisher said yes to the fantasy concept but only if he did a trilogy. May be awhile before he gets back to the SF. He's on the hook for another fantasy book after The Dark Commands.

Let's hope he doesn't go off the deep end. Apparently Xanth was originally supposed to be a trilogy....

Almost finished Altered Carbon and I'm hooked. Unfortunately, the rest of his books seem to be only available in trade paperback format. I prefer the mass paperback version because of both the price and portability.

I know what you mean and i dont re-read but i keep thinking about the years you have to wait for another quality sf book of his.

Typical i had problems connecting to the modern sf authors i have tried and the one i really really like, enough to enjoy as much as all-time greats of the genre...he switched to the genre that dominate bookshelves and really didnt need another fantasy author.

Imagine Peter F Hamilton doing a fantasy novel, going by todays standards or size of fantasy and SF the said novel should be about 7000 pages long :)

Am i the only one that thought market forces was badass on so many different levels. tried to get into kovacs.... didnt impress or work to well for me. Black Man on the other hand pushed the limits of greatness. I rank it right up there will red mars and Dune. In an Ideal world Idris Elba (Stringer bell) from the wire would be playing him

You disliked Altered Carbon ?

I haven't read Market Forces but i see other fans dont rate it highly. Maybe because its different from other RM books i.e. less action.

I don't know why it's like that - there is a lot of action - the main character is a bit weaker than Kovacs or ... (can't remember the name from Black Man). The story is more contemporary and business oriented - but I liked Market Forces as well.

Market Forces was the first book of Richard Morgan's that i read. I too enjoyed it, but it did have that air of unbelievability. I've heard it described as Mad Max meets Wall Street.

Wall street part sound very good, i like RM as much for his thought provoking worlds, themes as the action, characters.

I wont expect Market Forces to be like Altered Carbon story wise.
