Do you listen to music when you write?

When I was at college, I liked to study in silence. It kept my mind in sharp focus n firmly on track. But there was this next door neighbour of mine, doing a doctorate in solid state physics, who liked to work with heavy rock at full blast. N he was a real nerd too.

I guess different guys get in the zone in different ways.

But in writing, to me, I dont need total silence. Like, for writing, I dont need the kind of concentration I do for linear thinking, as in doing college mathematics. It's more lateral thinking, like. So, I can write noisy as well as well as quiet.

I've been listening to Misery Signals whilst writing tonight. Usualy though I listen to stuff like Moguai and Sigur Ros to get into the mood. I couldn't listen to talk back radio whilst writing though, too many thoughts at once.

I didn't even think of talk radio. I don't write while listening to it, but if I have something on in the car, it's that. I like to think it gives me a feel on real people and the occasional character idea.

No, I can't listen to music or pretty much to anything else. I find that even small distractions make it hard to concentrate and I lose my train of thought.
