The official ADWD "Pick the Announcement Date" thread

I've sifted thorugh the first 12 or so pages of the thread, and I'm convinced that Corn! Corn! Corn!'s guess of April 1, 2011 wins. ViZion is second with May 11th 2011

I predicted May 8th (see post#304). Not that I'm proud to be more than two months out, and that on my second attempt (the first being May 8 2010).

*cough*

Though admittedly, I took two guesses.

I was think in terms of what was posted early in the thread. Many people picked new dates after their original ones were passed. Corn had the right of it first guess and was off by less than a month. :)

My most recent guess was April 8th, which is the birthday of my oldest friend, my dear departed monther-in-law and also my wedding anniversary.

I still lost

Corn might still be on the money - as has been said, there hasn't been an annoucement of 'It's done!' yet, just a pub date.

The spirit of the contest I envisioned was the person who pick the date clsest to when GRRM announced the book was done would be the winner. The sly devil has confounded us, in not announcing it being finished, but rather, when it will be published. It seems to me that there' s probably a 4 week window now for him to tie up loose end and call it a wrap. at THAT point somone wins, but if I have my druthers, the judges may have to confer to actually choose.

All fun aside, this is a happy day,

Well, now that the announcement is announced, time for the "pick the release date thread".

Any takers?;):D

As long as there's no fee to enter, and names are not to be pulled out of a hat in the event of a tie-break, I'm going to plump for the Even-More-Glorious Twelfth.

If by "release date" (which we learned is July 12th) you mean completion date (the book is not yet declared finished), I'll go with April 8th :D

I mean the actual Release Date, the date when we can walk into Waterstones or Chapters or Barnes & Noble and actually pick up a copy from the ADWD pyramid that will undoubtedly be piled at the front of the SF&F section.

They have said July 12, 2011. But what do they really mean? I just don't believe 'em yet.

Bookstore release dates are fairly meaningless. George Martin himself announced yesterday that the book will finally be in stores July 12th, as soon as he's finished writing the book and turned it into his editors. Just a few more chapters to go.

Based on my recent experience with highly aticipated book releases- Harry Potter 7 and The Dark Tower (7) being the most notable, each has been at my door on the date given by Amazon.com AMazon is saying what GRRM said- July 12th of this year, so i expect my damn book on that day or there's going to be hell to pay.

The book will obviously published before then and someone, hopefully Roy Dotrice, will have to read the audiobook. A friend of mine who does aduiobook reading told me that he plans on about twice as much time for production as will be the length of the final version, so we could be looking at a few weeks to get the adiobook ready.

Anyway, I digress. We're faced with the uniqie circumstance of knowing when a book will be published/released, but not yet knowing when it will be declared finished by the author.

I take heart from Patrick Rothfuss, who stated a specific release date and made it. And he'd pushed back hazier deadlines before...

You saying that he has a few more chapters to go is pretty irresponsible, as that statement is pure fiction.

July 12th is a firm publication date. GRRM does NOT have "a few more chapters to go". Much of the book has already been turned in to the publisher, I think that last count was 1,400 maunscript pages. I'm betting he's not calling it "done' yet because he has some minor touching up to do, but if he HAD to he could call it complete right now

Thanks Imp. :)

I still have a few weeks of play, so I think I'm good.

I had the weirdest gut feeling about April 1.

Turns out I'm getting married April 2, so that may have been it. :p
