Jaime in the Suvudu Cage Match.

Of course, now that you mention it... My only excuse is that I'm inobservant.

In my copy of NotW, on the title page, just below the title, it says "King Killer Chronicle, Day One".

And Jaime won. Now he and Rand Al Thor have to battle it out and I'm terribly conflicted.

Smelt a rat? No, I smelled a bear, a bear, all covered in hair!

murph, thanks. My only excuse is that I am forgetful... the legacy of a mispent youth. You know the old saying "A doobie a day, helps to... uh, I forgot the rest."

Cul, I'd love to see it also. So who will Martin and Sanderson choose if the Trial of the Seven is allowed? I've only read The Eye of the World, but I dont' think any self respecting annointed knight of the Seven Kingdoms could think they'd escape an encouter with Lan unscathed. I'd send the Mountain or BFS after him immediately.

The Sanderson/Jordan Team:
•Rand (Obviously)
•Matt (Best Friend, lucky to have around)
•Perrin (Best Friend, we know Rand needs him around at some point)
•Conan (crushes enemies, sees them run before him, and hears the lamentations of their women)
•Vin (Has won a lot of big fights in her brief life, allomancy would be a pretty major advantage against team Westeros)
•Nynaeve al'Meara (probably the woman Rand trusts the most to guard his back magically).
•Vasher (Of Warbreaker fame, he'd be something of a wild card, but with Nightblood in hand he's pretty formidable).

Team Westeros
•Jaime (golden hand, kills kings, bit of a *******)
•Tyrion (mostly good for research, but has managed to survive a couple of major battles, he might very well be overlooked and manage some successful back stabbing)
•Qyborg (Cersei can find herself another champion, Jaime needs all the help he can get, Qyborn's hulking indestructable monster certainly qualifies as help)
•Loras Tyrell (The Knight of Flowers would jump at the chance to help mend the rift between Lannister and Tyrell, or at least The Queen of Thorns would)
•Jon Snow. (The Lord Commander of the Night's Watch bears no special love for Jaime, but he would put familial bonds aside for the promise of aid for his beleaguered brothers in black. He's responsible for defending the realms of men after all, he could stand to have the king's father owe him a favor).
•Jaquen Hagar (All that Lannister gold must be good for something right? Jaime's best bet against his over powered adversaries might be to buy a faceless man to impersonate one of Rand's friends and stab him in the back).

I'm not really sure who Jaime would fill his team out with. There are plenty of brawlers for him to choose from, but Team Sanderson/Jordan just seems way more versatile. Dany (and her pets) would be a huge advantage but it's almost inconceivable that she'd join the king slayer. The same goes for Mellisandre... Maybe Jaime could prevail on Maester Marwyn to stab someone with an obsidian candle....

what do y'all think?

Can Jaime recall the dead? if so, id throw in Aegon and his sisters with their dragons, the sword of the morning, maybe robert in his prime, and Howland Reed. (He's a sneaky bugger, and he's not dead).

How about The Stranger, The Warrior, The Smith...

Or Melisandre's "baby". Bron. Anyone with Tears of Lys. A Kraken? Jon plus Ghost?

Does it have to be a logical ally, or can he importune any animated being in the ASOIAF world?

Mayhaps one reason why the Kingslayer defeated Hermione, Cthulhu, Temeraire, and Kvothe was that people like a realistic hero/villain. I'm not saying Miss Granger was not a realistic character, I felt that she displayed many virtues and flaws that I've seen in teenage girls. I'm saying that she could do magic... very potent magic. And yet she's not even in Kvothe's class. He is a very powerful magician. And yet how could Kvothe stand up to a real Dragon... and how could Temeraire hope to survive against an Elder God?

By comparison, Jaime cannot cast any spells... not a one. He cannot fly. He cannot breathe fire. He cannot cause abject terror by his mere presence. He is a swordsman who is missing his sword hand. And he did not become a swordsman from super powers... he learned it by studying and practicing.

Jaime is a real character. We could each be just like him... just not as handsome. And I, for one, like that in a hero/villain.

Kind of disappointed that Jamie won as I don't think it makes sense against the likes of Kvothe (even though there has only been one book in that series).

P.S. I consider myself a huge GRRM fan and love love love ASOIAF.

P.P.S. I'm very much Team Jaime for the finals, ha. Only because I have yet to pick up WoT.

Thanks, Eulalia. I dig it just for the new Tyrion lines. Rand vs. Jaime + Seven and the whole thing is being orchestrated by Tyrion. Epic fun!

I think GRRM will use some characters from his other works for the Trial of Seven. I haven't read all of them, so I can't say which are going to be most useful... Any thoughts?

By bringing overwhelming numbers, Jaime could be set up to appear as the favorite thus brining sympathy to Rand...

Well, the voting has started, and after around 2400 votes have been cast, Jaime has a 20 vote lead. Looks like its gonna be tight....

Indeed the Match has begun. Rand currently holds a 52%-48% lead. The story by Suvudu on the match is fairly comical. I won't spoil it for you, but it's got a bit of a twist...

Rand does seem to be still nosing ahead (51%-49%).

It's just a shame the nose isn't Tyrion's.
