Re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- September and October

I wrote mine down on a post-it note on my lunchbreak at work today. Just need to type it up! Don't reckon I'll get any other ideas.
So you'll stick with it, will you...?

Re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- September and October

Well, despite what I was saying earlier, it seems my compulsive nature took over again and I got my entry in.

Not yet sure who I have on my list yet, I haven't yet gone through the stories that are up yet. But I have to say that what I have gone through, Sephiroth is looking good so far. :D Dare I say TE and Mosaix also looking good this month? :D

Re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- September and October

Mosaix your entry is my favorite so far. "T..."

Re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- September and October

Ugghhhh I have so little inspiration this month. My plan is to let me brain dredge up random things from my subconscious and hope they coalesce into stories. It's not great: so far, 'acid cheese', 'nuclear deodorant' and 'oyster village' have all fizzled out.

Oooh, oooh - if you're not going to use the acid cheese, could I take it? I see there's no hash brownies in there, either...

I'm really struggling to find anything at all, and the damn good postings so far, are making it even harder!

Individually, perhaps. But I can see a Hugo Award going to the writer who convincingly combines them.

Jesus, Parson! Yours is really clever. Me likey!

And people say that all the good story ideas have been used. I think nuclear deodorant has at least a trilogy to run down its various aspects and to make you wealthy enough to purchase some. :D:D

ROFLOL!!!

Mouse!

Humble thanks! I see you caught on.

I, too, really like Parson's. Definitely a contender for me at this stage of the competition.

(And you can easily see why the soldier might be cross.)

(Sorry, Parson, I couldn't help myself. And at least I didn't say you'd nailed it....:eek::eek::eek:)

Ursa, Thank God (I mean that literally) for small favors in the pun department.

Thanks also for the kind words.:)

Re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- September and October

Been a bit too busy again, so I only skimmed through the no doubt wonderful stories already posted to make sure they don't clash with my idea. ;)

I'll see if I can't get it re-written and such tomorrow though, I have a very rough draft already.

Re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- September and October

Okay, I’ll just get this out there now, in case anyone thinks my story doesn’t qualify as SF/F. Plus, whereas most people have the good grace to leave explanations until after voting is closed, I don’t have a problem with that :D.

I’ve played on the same theme as Harebrain and the tradition of souls being released (although I noticed it also bears a superficial likeness to SynOfMan’s story). The baker’s door represents the divide between life and afterlife, purgatory and heaven, with the “divine” cake on one side and the ghost on the other (that's right, I've gone all symbolic like). The cake is obvious enough for anyone who’s done their googling on the subject and the idea of a soul’s re-birth.

Anyway, that’s one interpretation ;)

Re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- September and October

I did indeed understand yours, No One. I thought it was rather cute, actually. And believe me, I never use that word.

Still, I'm not sure if I will add you to my list yet or not. It's a contender for the list, certainly, but I have to wait a day or two and straighten my brain out first. :p

Re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- September and October

I have a few on my list right now, but currently riding the crest of my conscious wave are the stories of Nixie, DeathfromMassive, SynofMan and No One. For some reason each of these gets my attention right now.
