oooh - nice one Judge! I like.

To be fair, I like many, many of the entries this month, as always. Looking forward to getting away from the relatives to sit and consider my vote this month.

Re how long it takes to get to a story; some months I have the idea almost instantly and just have to work the words to fit. Other months I wrestle with ideas for days/weeks and struggle to get it to fit into 75 words. I've learnt to write the story and work on it for a couple of days - not to post instantly as that doesn't do me any favours, (although it works very well for some!)

Re how I vote - it simply comes down to which story I like the best.* However, if I reallly like a story and it's written by a newbie, I most certainly try to mention it in my shortlist as I want to encourage such talent to stay - and who here doesn't get a little thrill when they see their name on a shortlist? ;)

* I say simply - I can spend hours agonising over which story to vote for!

Judge, Well done, well done indeed. Put a whole new wrinkle on sacrifice in a SF setting.

Thank you, Storm!

Since mosaix's
I prefer SF to fantasy, prose to poetry, and 'hidden meanings' do nothing for me
put me well and truly in my place, I thought I'd better branch out... :p

(That's not to say there might not be something hidden...)

EDIT: Thank you, too, Parson. You snuck in there ahead of me. (But "wrinkles" are a sore point when addressing ladies of a certain age!)

In the end I had two pieces, and I was happy with neither, but since the classical one (no, not Ovid this time) didn't pass the Other Half test, and no way could I scramble a third in time, I had to post this one. Faute de mieux. (I should have put that as the title, perhaps.)

Would I be breaking some kind of Chrons' seniority-hierarchy if I slapped TJ? :D I think your story, and use of language, is brilliant! So admit it's good or you'll be accusing me, and doubtless many others, of having poor taste.:)

Since she doesn't make a habit of that sort of thing, I figure The Judge gets by this time. But she's on notice not to do it again.

Less than 24 hours left to reach (or exceed) the magic 42.

Nothing to do with this thread, or anything anyone's saying, but Teresa, your avatar is super cute!

Um... on topic... I'm still liking Chris's a lot this month, though I've not read them all yet!

I thought you'd like it.

The star struck me as Christmas-y (I've been looking for something seasonal for a couple of weeks) and I thought the little white rat provided a touch of whimsy.

The artist goes by the name of knuckletoes ... don't ask me why.

Hey! I never said it wasn't any good, just that I wasn't happy with it! We're allowed to say that -- otherwise there's a hint of a slap in Teresa's "If I'd had two, you could have had this one." which indicates she thinks she could have done better. (First law of advocacy -- spread the crime...)

But thank you, No One! Your taste is, as ever, impeccable.

Nothing personal TJ. :)
I know that. ;) (Now vote for me, to prove it! :p :D)

He looks like a cross between Tom of Tom and Jerry fame and Charles Manson.
Now that's a mental image I'm not sure any of us want.:D It's always best to stay with pious parsons.:D:D

Much more seriously, Cul, the last minute strikes again! That was BRILLIANT!
