re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Parson humbly accepts TE's vote and is awed that someone of her talent should think it worthy. Thanks!!:)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Haven't quite had the time to go through this month's entries as thoroughly as I'd like, but I've drawn up a not-so-shortlist (and no doubt missed a few honourable inclusions). This voting lark is turning out to be a hard thing! But, I'm pretty sure about which one I'm going for this month:

Reiver33 - Bosworth
Teresa - Lear
Mosaix - Eternity
Harebrain - Chrono$
Boneman - Running Down
Mygoditsraining - Man is Least Himself
Parson - Time in a Bottle
The Judge - [Two Times] Three Times - Thieves
Chrispenycate - Time Vampire
HoopyFrood - Beginnings End
Mouse - Death by Mouse
Leisha - Evolution
Sephiroth - Karya

All excellent in their way, but my vote goes for Time in a Bottle - Parson.

*With thanks to Teresa for shortlisting me. Chuffed.:D

I voted for StormFeather (despite the your/you're oopsy) cos I was impressed by the cleverness.

Gosh! To get a vote, from the Mighty Mouse no less, is worth a lot, and had me dancing round the house, singing a little ditty!:D:D

With regards to the oopsy, I was writing, editing and continually tweaking it in the kitchen, whilst cooking a roast with all the trimmings, (was hiding from screaming kids and pretending to look at recipes for yorkshire puddings). My already weak concentration slipped even further:eek:

I will get my vote in tonight as we're off to see friends who have no internet for the weekend, but I may not have time to do my shortlist until we get back

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Have it down from my first shortlist of 35, to 18, to 10, to the following 6:

Taly,
Mosaix
Boneman
Chrispy
Mouse
Chopper.

Have to sleep on it and promise to vote before we leave tomorrow

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

So after thinking about it some, here's my talllist (in order of posting):

Deathfrommassive - Delmore Schwartz - A nice fresh way to state the old idea of aging.
reiver33 - Bosworth - Why would anyone want to prevent Henry VIII and his six wives from happening?
mosaix - Eternity - As someone who has been bound and chained inside a desolate dungeon, I can confirm the slow passage of time.
HareBrain - CHRONO$ - One hour is equal to a month? My, that's worse than cigarettes.
Devil's Advocate - Come, Deliverance - I don't know who this bloke is, but a damn good entry. Damn good.
Croaker - Old Soldier - How world weary of you.
DarkRaven - March of Time - Who wouldn't love to see and infant wielding a sword?
List shortlisted to Fav Four: mosaix, Devil's Advocate, Croaker and DarkRaven.

Reducing it to Tantalising Trio: mosaix, Devil's Advocate, Croaker.

Whittling down to Delicious Duo: mosaix, Devil's Advocate

And so we're left with the Onely* - my vote goes to Devil's Advocate! Well done, buddy! Nice job with that one...
Just kidding. I voted for mosaix.

* A word I invented; combination of 'one and only'.

No One you've made my day. As I sit down here to put the finishing touches on tomorrow's worship I get the great honor of having received your vote! :D

Well that makes it even more impressive then! I get way too distracted when I'm trying to cook and it usually goes really wrong, so no way would I be able to write at the same time too!

Should Parson win, even though No One has voted for him, might a sermon in a certain midwestern town on the subject, Is it better to be popular or right? be the order of the day? :)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Is it “Death” by Mouse or “Death by Mouse” by Mouse; or is that the whole point and I’m so slow that I finally just got it?

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

The title of it is "Death by Mouse".

So Mouse wrote Death by Mouse instead of just writing Death.

She still got my vote, though. :D It was a good one this month. :)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

I started with a short list of 13 this month, most of which have been mentioned by others already. I haven't seen Allanon's "Taken by You" mentioned yet, so I'll throw that one into the mix, and only one mention of Challah Rajni's "The Hyderabad Groom", so there's that as well.

My short-short list is now sitting at six:

Crystal Haven--"Too Much Time"

Precise Calibre--"One Grain at a Time"

Moonbat--"Go to Your Room..."

J-WO--"On the Dangers of Timegates..."

Sephiroth--"Karya"

Lenny--"Monotony Affects Even the Strong"

And I'm not sure which way I'm likely to jump, yet.

You're welcome Parson - I must say you're taking the fact that no one has voted for you very well.

On a side note, I believe a certain orange Newt has fallen foul of technical issues and so may not make tomorrow's deadline. Although, technically, if Hoopy votes for no one...

Ursa, Ursa, Most of the time I've had no one vote for me; but this time I had No One vote for me and the difference was one vote. Hmmmm.

As to your sermon title, it has some merit. What's more important is that there is plenty of gospel which makes the point. After Jesus reached the height of his popularity during his life time (the feeding of the 5000) the crowds took offense at his teaching and left in droves whereupon Jesus asked his disciples if they were going to leave as well. (John 6:60-70)

John 6:60-70 - PassageLookup - New International Version - BibleGateway.com

But this week's sermon comes from a few verses before this. John 2:23-3:21. I am doing a series entitled "Great verses of the Bible" and of course one of these has to be John 3:16.

Title: "God's Love Opens the Door to Eternal Life" -- A very evangelical sermon.

Note: All my sermons (the past 2 years) are done with PowerPoint slides, if someone would like a copy of any of them just pm me.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Less than a day to vote, and we have far fewer votes than stories.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

My vote is coming! Have to make time to read through them again, but I will...

EDIT: Oh, and two more mentions! My thanks, DA and Teresa!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

In spite of a nightmarish schedule combined with lurker tendencies, my vote is in. I have to echo the sentiment floating around in this thread: thank you all for making this one choice very, VERY difficult.

I had to make a list to even begin making sense of it all:

Axiom - Don't be promiscuous with a witch's love.- Beautiful love that speaks to my biases, a little over written

Moonbat - Got to your room and think about what you've done - Cool concept - plain writing

Chopper - Moebius, or, how to avoid an Extinction Level Event for the (n=n+1)th time

J-Wo - On the dangers of Timegates and a classical education
(With thanks and apologies to Petronius Arbiter) - Cool time travel fable - I had trouble getting my head around the writing

HareBrain - CHRONO$ - Brutal concept. Loved it.

TheEndIsNigh - The End - Figuring it out gave me a few snickers.

No One - Song Without End - Very beautiful in just about every way. Magically touched all of my biases.

ventanamist - THE TIME WORM TURNS - I visualized this. Funniest story out of all them. Brilliant.

mosaix - Eternity - Beautiful look at how life is compressed into a moment. Beautiful

StormFeather - Timeless - A wonderful surprise for me...

Leisha - Evolution - Nicely written. Made me smile. Ending bothered me a bit.

Honorable mentions go to the Mouse and Chris for having too much wit and ingenuity for their own good.

Thanks for all the reads. It was a wonderful experience. Can't wait to toss my hat in for the next one.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Okay, I cut my short list down to three entries, all worthy of a vote - reiver33's Bosworth, chopper's Moebius, and Croaker's Old Soldier. In the end my vote went with reiver33, who caught my eye early and held it throughout the month...

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Yes, I'm afraid mine had been a mite rushed this month, and time is really actually a very difficult theme to deal with.

I hope my next will be better. Looking back, I almost winced at my entry, haha. :p :( Hmm...

I always wince at my entry, but I will keep entering helps keep numbers up:p

I've overcome the urge to 'wince' at any part of my art, since the entirety of it induces a urge to cringe at it.
