re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Nope, not mouse-flavoured. I can't prise sufficient remains from the cats' jaws to make the mice into cakes...

And not banana cake either, yuk.

 You'll give me nightmares, I'm about to go to bed!

And I'm not entirely sure how good chocolate is for mice....:D

It can kill dogs and cats....

Can I have apple cake then? Apple cake is good. Actually, who am I kidding? All cake is good!

I really want to stay up to see who's gonna win this month, but I'm shattered. Plus the pup is bothering me and needs to go to bed.

So g'night all!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

But dogs and cats are specialised carnivores; mice, while designed herbivorous, have a relatively omnivore digestion and will cheerfully chew bars of chocolate.

I suspect too much of it isn't good for them (it's none too good for us, usually, although I did know a New York chocoholic who more or less subsisted on it with coffee, about the most unhealthy diet you could imagine, even in NYNY and he's still alive.) Which is why, obviously, if I discover chewed chocolate I enclose it in a tin; just to stop them getting sick.
Very dangerous when it's used to bait mouse-traps...
You're that desperate to get rid of mice? Or is it American chocolate?

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

One of the wild chipmunks on my camping trip had nibbled on a bit of our s'mores chocolate. :( I ditched that end of it outwards the day we left.

Chocolate, however, does seem to have at least some nutrients, rather than artificial candy. :p

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Only a few more hours left ... can Mouse hold on? Will she win it by a whisker?

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

As ever, choosing was no picnic. As time is short (but very, very long), here's my short list, as ever divided into the honourable mentions, the runners up and the winner:

Honourable Mentions:
  • Eternity by mosaix
  • Timeless by Stormfeather
  • One Grain at a Time by Precision Calibre
  • Death by Mouse by Mouse
  • Evolution by Leisha
  • Monotony Affects Even the Strong by Lenny
Runners Up:
  • Time in a Bottle by Parson
  • On the dangers of Timegates and a classical education
    by J-WO
  • Karya by Sephiroth
Winner:
  • Can you go to your room and think about what you've done! by Moonbat

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Looks like this is gonna be a close one.

We have Mouse leading with 6 votes, and no less than three challengers (chopper, chrispenycate & crystal haven) bearing* down on her with 5 votes apiece.

Interesting...

(How about we have a secondary pseudo-challenge: Who can go the longest without garnering a single vote? I'm currently at 4 months and counting...)

* Not Ursa.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

What else? A mouse-shaped cake with milk-chocolate ganache, I think.

Eek! I didn't read it literally! I thought it was metaphorical!! Blooming heck. None of this is helping. And I've only got a few hours left...

Oops, I wasn't trying to get added back into the list--I should have waited till it was done, sorry about that! As my friend RSliwinski, newbie to the challenge this month, says, if you have to explain it, it's a fail! :)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Whoa! Thanks for the mentions, people! I can't believe I got so many. :):):)

So, a last-minute vote from me!

In case anyone was curious, here's my lists.

Honourable mentions: Hoopy (an idea similar to one I had but didn't use; love the story!), Kayleigh (beautiful and sad), Challah Rajni (lovely message), Axiom (nice imagery and idea), Lenny (brilliant idea!), and Mosaix (I wanted to write something similar, but didn't, in the end. Yours is far better than mine would have been!)

My shortlist was this: Scarfy (creepy but great), MGiR (unique idea), No One (beautiful imagery and language), Chrispenycate (haunting and memorable), and Seph (wonderful language - and so sad).

My final list came down to two: No One and Sephiroth.

And as hesitant as I am to vote for Seph for obvious reasons, I found his imagery, language, and simple beauty too awing to be ignored. I've found myself remembering the poem at random times since I read it. How can someone write something so moving and poetic in 20 minutes??? I do hope you continue your poetry, Seph; it's a written to such a high level, imo.

And congrats to the two winners, Chopper and Mouse!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Great, someone had to bump Chopper up to the lead. :p (No offense there, Chopper, but I liked Mouse's better, and I was hoping for a vote of mine to win, hehe. :D)

The poll up yet?

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Incidentally, my vote went to chopper, who ran a close second for me first time through...

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Well, knives won't fly from me YET, but....:D

Whoever wins will win. *Shrugs* I still hope it'll be Mouse. I get the feeling she'll provide an easier theme....
