...I'm sufficiently warmed up to tackle the Dark Tower Series. First up, The Gunslinger.

Hmm - do I detect a touch of Hoopinfluence?...:p

Reading Magic Lost, Trouble Found by Lisa Shearin

HMMM.. OK. Being a Howard fan boy I note this must be the latest Del Rey publication. Having all of their other Howard edns. this is a must for me. Wonder what stuff this one covers exactly that the other publications did not?

Thanks for the heads up Conn.

EDIT: AH I see you've posted elswhere that is contains some Dark Agnes stories. Cool. I probably have a number of the historical stories in a Bison edn. but I'll still get the Del Rey as I tend to like the illustrations a little more than you...;)

Do you have Bison Lord of Samarcand collection ? Those have most of Cormac, other historical fiction outside Dark Agnes, some others. This collection has all 11 of those stories plus 2 complete Dark Agnes stories,Spear of Contlarf story. So i bought it for 200 kr only because i needed the Agnes stories,Spear of Contlarf. The old Sword woman collection is hard to find, cost a bit these days.

A new Del Rey is by far better than Bison, other REH collections so im happy even i wont read all 500 pages :)

Finished Field of swords last night, amazing for me to finish a book that size in just over a month.

Decided to give Horns, by Joe Hill a go. Six capters in now and not sure if i'll stick with it or not. finding his style of writing a bit scatty, i'll give it a chance.

Interesting Times - Terry Pratchett. Every time you read about one of Pratchett's groups, you think "Yep, these, these are my favourites. I love [witches/wizards/citywatch/death/etc]". Then you read another one and you have to completely change your mind.

Suffice to say, they're all ruddy great.

Also, just noticed...yes, mayhap I gave No One a...tiny...shove in the right direction for the Dark Tower. Muahahaha.

Currently The Web of the Magi by Richard Cowper, a so far excellent collection of four longish stories.

Yep that's the one I have. I've already seen that the Del Rey has the Bison pieces plus some additional stories. I'm picking up my copy on Sunday and will likely send my existing Bison copoy to some luck Chrons member...not namnig now though.....

I'm guessing the next one Del Rey may put out will cover more Boxing and Fight stories plus perhaps Americana/Tall Tales. I don't actually know beyond that what they would still be putting out.

OH and here's an interesting interview/tour of the restored Howard House. I plan to visit there one day.

Actually Rusty Burke one of the editors of REH books in Del Rey said it might be the last one REH reprinted in Del Rey. Looks like that since most people involved are leaving for other work/authors.

I dont mind 11 books by Del Rey is more than enough and Boxning,Fight stories i will get through Bison,Wildside press. I only think its a shame no one has reprinted his gaelic heroes, historical adventures like Tourlagh O'Brian,Cormac Mac Art stories.

Still a golden time to be REH fan :)

Iron Angel by Alan Campbell

I can say in my opinion the best thing about The Gunslinger is its short, the next 2 are better then it goes downhill :(

Indeed, Rusty Burke is pretty much the main Howard scholar I know of. If that is the case then I'll also get a Bison copy of additional fight stories. On the Gaelic stories I think some of those are included in the previous collections published by Del Rey; I'll have to go check. I would imagine that the Wandering Star publication, which is the premier Howard collection available on the market may have done what you are suggesting BUT as you also say I'm more than happy for them to call it a day and have a couple of other Bison edns. to cover the majority of his other work.....:)

Didn't wait for "Speaker for the Dead" by OSC to arrive bout 3-5weeks from now, and proceeded to read Xenocide instead...

I'm reading The Hammer by K.J. Parker after finishing The Folding Knife. I love her writing style. I find it very easy to get caught up in her stories. The characters all always interesting and her humour and rich technical detail bring everything to life. I've now read every easily accessible book of hers, and have gone the extra mile and bought her 2 novellas, Purple and Black and Blue and Gold.

After several Pratchet novels in a row in December and January I have taken a break and gone for some Sherlock Holmes. Have just finished The adventures of... might start on the return of... or valley of fear, or Study in scarlett. Not sure.
But in the meanwhile, I am getting through 'the mammoth book of best new sf 23' which is always good for a short story or twelve.
Got plenty to read on my kindle, so might even go back to Pratchet.
