Writing Challenge Discussion — MARCH 2011

Hey Parson, she was actually my guess. However I figured it couldn't be her because (to my knowledge ) her whole family wasn't killed in camps/by the nazi party. Always a good day when you learn something new! Well, great story about an amazing woman!

Thanks so much for the mentions! I love the "Oscars" analogy. It fits so well! I think this challenge is also a really good tool to help me learn to appreciate small 'wins' and weather disappointment. Last month was really good for me as far as mentions and I even got a vote! But now it seems I feel/felt that anything less is a failure. Not a healthy way to think and regardless of what happens its not true. I completed the story and entered it, so that makes it not a failure.

I used family in a rather restricted way. The family living in the watchmakers shop all died, except Corrie. Her brother who had his own home at the time of the arrests died shortly after the war, very likely as a result from having been in the camps.

I can tell you too that this challenge will build you up and then bring you back to reality. There was a while in the challenge that the previous month's winner did not receive a vote in the next month, and there still has not been a back to back winner. And there been one two time winner. The one, the only Harebrain. (Although Mouse and Hoppy Frod have won and have lost in a tie breaker and Teresa has lost in a tie breaker twice.)

Hmm ... I was thinking of the people who hid Anne Frank, but that would have been too obvious. I read Corrie Ten Boom when I was a kid, but that's a long time ago and out of memory.

It wouldn't hurt to read it again. I think being an adult might give you some insight you didn't have as a kid. Although I love "The Hiding Place," I think my favorite story (actually a group of small stories) is "Tramp for the Lord."

GreenKidx:... But now it seems I feel/felt that anything less is a failure...

You definitely shouldn't feel that way. I quite liked you tale. In any case such talk usually gets you a whopping great Slap.

On another note though, some poor fool seems to have made a tragic error and given me a vote.

Whoever it was, thanks. It truly made my day.

Thanks for the shortlistings, peeps - I must say, I'm ridiculously pleased about them, especially as it's only my second entry...:)

Ouch! Hahaha. But I do believe that was my first slap. I am honoured TEIN! Hahaha
:D

Parson-
O...okay, then it would seem I was being too literal. Hahaha;)

Hoppy Frod. Heh, there's a new one.

Many thanks for the mentions of my little old story. And double thanks for the vote!

Dear Hoopy,

When I first saw your user name I read Hoppy Frog. I don't think I've ever written HoopyFrood right the first time since. Sorry, I'll try to hop less and hoop more.

Thankees for mentions.

My shortlist:
Nixie
alchemist
SleepyDormouse
No One
Chrispy
Cul (I don't quite understand the story, but I love the voice)
The Judge

And I think that's my longest short list ever! I've not voted yet, but it's between TJ and the dormouse...

edit: Ok, my vote went to TJ. SleepyD was close, but there was a missing comma. And really, that was only thing that I could use to separate the two entries.

I would have thought that needed at least a semicolon or a full stop, if not a paragraph break. ;):)

So you agree that you shouldn't get a short sentence for that transgression, then....

* Sharpens clause.... *

Surely it's a long sentence which needs a semi-colon, not a short one. And less of all this talk about handing them out -- it's my day off.

Anyhow, thank you kindly** for the vote, Mouse -- especially as it meant your having to desert a fellow small rodent. Also thanks to A.N.Onymous.

** trying to put on her Constable Benton Fraser accent, and failing miserably.
