As long as no-one is going to do any ogling, because that's an all too frequent result of random googling, sad to say (to the extent that some think that google should be pronounced go-ogle).

Yes, it would be ironic indeed if Parson's attempts to educate and enlighten, actually led us toward something sinful.

*groan*

I'm liking No One's entry. As well as a few others... Not getting Parson's reference though. :(

Thankee Mouse - I'm really not looking for a slap when I say I was a little hesitant to post it (lots of great entries already in), but after wrestling with an idea that refused to work I decided to re-think was in order. Mr. Crime and Captain Punishment just...popped in there. Was fun to write though :)

Oh, and as I say, lots of great entries, but a special mention to HB. Just brilliant.

I have had such a busy life lately that I barley had the thyme to separate enough wheat from the chaff in my head; I was on the fence about what I wanted to post and decided to go with my current entry.

Thanks for the mention Perp, I look forward to seeing your comments on everyone's entries. You might be a bit disappointed by the answer to your question.

I've taken a bit of time to read through and so far Alchemist's Talysia's, Sleepydormouse's and Hoopy's have caught my attention most thus far, though many of the entries are waiting beyond the edge of firelight.

Well, I managed to cut my entry to this month's challenge down to 75 words (from well over 100). As I suspected, there was no room for any wordplay, at least not with the dark humour needed to stay appropriate to the gist of the story.

Okay the title has two meanings, but even that's not to make any sort of joke.

Wow - some powerful entries recently! Good to see we're still getting newbies joining - hoping (if you newbies are reading this) that you stay around for the voting too . . .

Glad I posted early this month as I've barely had time to think - this has been my busiest month so far, and I don't think I'm helping myself by trying to take up lace-making too. Haven't had time to write a Perp-esque style review (still on the first 3!) but I am, as always, impressed by the quality of writing, and the diversity of stories that one theme can generate.

Promise to section some time off this weekend to curl up with a coffee, or a wine depending on time of day, and do a proper read-through of this thread and the challenge thread. Might be able to contribute more than the odd inane comment then . . . :D

Voting doesn't open until the twenty-fourth of the month. There will be a poll posted then, with a link in both the competition thread and this thread.

And welcome to the forums.

You should definitely go back through the last few pages of this section and check out the previous months' competitions as well! We've got a year's worth now, as we started last April.

I like Chris's story, with it's underlying plea for a change in dragon parenting behaviour.

The downside of letting a volcano do all the work is shown clearly: a young dragon's misdirected anger at the world for having imprisoned him or her. Given the power inherent in dragonkind, this isn't going to be helpful to the dragon in integrating into wider society. I'd go further: this sort of parental abandonment is only going to inflame dragon-human misunderstandings.

Ursa has pun-ished us again!

Chris,

My first thought after reading your story was "There are dragons in those hills." Nice and unexpected story.

Thank you Ursa and Parson for noticing my little attempt. I was completely out of ideas this month; the one I wanted to write might have been cuttable down for the 250 word challenge ("But we don't have a …" "Exactly")

But what tells you it was a dragon? It might have been a Godzilla, or a leftover dino – ah, the author, yes.

G Apples give us a glimpse ---- Ummm.... (right connotation; wrong word)
G Apples shows us how to be risque and Family friends all at the same time.

Bacon Slicer, indeed!
