Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

mmmm...ahem... (shuffles, embarrassed)... Thank you so much. Read alongside some of the brilliant entries this month, that is high praise indeed. :)

ps: We ARE getting three votes aren't we? It is a three-monthly competition, as well....

ah, but we have thrice as much time to decide. So maybe only 1 vote. Does it say anything about number of votes in the rules?

Runs off to check

nope :( couldn't find owt.

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Boneman, even though one of your nephews was in my story, yours is absolutely brilliant. You get me vote mate.

Orgasmic as they say in certain circles:)

If you dont win, I'll bare me backside in Harrods window.

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Just like Xmas really.

A crowd gathered outside, me with me cheeks on display and surrounded by fairy lights and a smoke machine:eek:

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

And no dry ice in the audience....

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

That's it. I'm creating another 10 usernames and we're all voting for Boneman. The alternative is just too much to contemplate...

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Whew, that's done!

I know last month we managed to turn romance into a dark art, but once again, can we have a picture of sunshine and daisies and kittens (oh lord, not kittens, now that I think about it) and sugar and spice and all that good stuff? I've come up with about seven different story ideas for this challenge and at least ten different iterations of this particular one to get here, and the only one that was a happy theme was the one where *shudder* I decided the tower was a giant cookie-dispenser. Actually, after last Saturday, I wanted so much to say "twelve jammy-dodgers and a fez", but that might have been considered derivative. Anyway, I'm all darked-out!

Oh, and I have to shamefully admit that I only used 299 words. I have counted and counted repeatedly to make sure of my words, but I decided not to add another one "just in case". :D

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

There is no shame in using less words. Quite the reverse. Anyway, it is a wonderful story, TDZ!

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Well, if you couldn't find out, there's a strong possibility the mods are moderating, moderately, even as we speak!

I can confirm this, in a moderately accurate way...

Don't try this at home - yes, I know it's a joke, but large heavy objects will suddenly appear over the heads of anyone who is tempted to try it.

Boneman: Sadly, it appears that your chances of winning have just fallen to zero. I for one, have a excellent camera and as the topic for next months photo challenge is

"Window Shopping". :)

Gary: You should be ashamed of currying favour in this way. :)

Thanks!

Actually, it's just a way to hedge for me -- I figure on the off chance that I don't win (hey, it could happen), I can always say, "well, but just imagine what I could have done with 300 words!" :D

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Ahhhhh!!!! Just about caught up with my comments, and ready to post them and someone else posts a tale....

grump, grump grump, where's me notebook...

Announcement Concerning the 300 Word Writing Challenge

As some have guessed, moderators have indeed been Up To Something -- although for much longer than you may think.

This is something we have been discussing since before the new Challenge was first announced, and we have been dying to tell you, but there were things that needed to be worked out before we could reveal the exciting news.

There is going to be a prize for the first place story in the quarterly 300 Word Challenge!

If the winner so chooses, his or her story will be featured on the Chronicles Home Page Chronicles Network: Science Fiction & Fantasy along with the news stories and other articles. There will also be a more tangible prize. The winner may choose the book of his or her choice, up to the price of £10 GBP, from The Book Depository

Since this is a new thing and it involves Brian, who is very busy at the moment, the prizes may not come immediately after the end of the voting, but they will come.

Because there is a prize involved (among other reasons, of which more later), there will be a somewhat different voting system in place. We're still looking into the best way to implement it, so you'll have to wait a little while longer to learn what that is about, too.

All of us on the moderating team for the Writing Challenges hope you will be as excited about this as we are.

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Weird...

Today I've lurked on the Chrons and looked at the three hundred word challenge. The word 'audible' in my story keeps getting reverted to a link to an Amazon site called...well, Audible.

And yet when I log in, it disappears.

Dunno if anyone sees it. Just thought I'd mention it because I have no idea why it keeps doing this, and that it's not anything I've done. Intentionally, at least, and I'm at least computer savvy enough to know when I've linked something or not.

Word count wise, I also stayed under the 300 mark. Different things kept giving me different word counts, so I left myself a six or seven word margin to avoid mishaps...

Like with the start of the 75 word challenge, I didn't think I'd end up entering. Then a wily idea sneaks in and demands to be written...(Virgo especially in this particular story).

EDIT: Ooh, prizes!

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Teresa,

That all sounds wonderful. Thank you and the other mods for their hard work! Now if I can only get that clockwork mouse to do what she needs to do, I'll be sitting pretty!:D

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

I'm excited! I'm excited!

And for those who originally wondered why the insistence on SFF for this Challenge, this is the reason.
