Just watched Game of Thrones episode 1

I had trouble telling Jon apart from at least one of his half-brothers. In fact, all those brothers looked alike to me.

I had trouble telling them apart, too, and I've read the books. One of them isn't even a brother! It's Theon Greyjoy who is basically a "hostage" (an honored one if that makes any sense) being held by Eddard Stark to help ensure the cooperation of Theon's father who tried to rebel against King Robert before the books even start. Sorry, that was a long sentence. And that's not even close to being the most complicated character background in this series ;).

Theon had a greasy, shift look and no facial hair, Robb had brown hair and beard and Jon had black hair and beard .. I think lol

Jon was the pretty one. ;)

As for Harry Lloyd, yes I'm agreeing with what others have said about him too. Very good. Especially as he always seemed a little wooden as Will Scarlett in Robin Hood.

Maybe Robin Hood didn't give Lloyd anything to get his teeth into. I watched an early episode in which the director seemed far more interested in the stunts (do we really need to see the same "acrobatic leap from a building" three times from different camera angles?) than in the story, and never tuned in again...

I loved Robin Hood. (Apart from the last series, which I've wiped from my memory). It didn't take itself too seriously and a lot of people didn't 'get' that.

Harry Lloyd as Will Scarlett = fail. As Viserys = win.

Harry Lloyd was also Jeremy Baines in Doctor Who Human Nature and Family of Blood, and was superb in that.

Jebus, I'm not slagging off Harry Lloyd! The opposite actually. :p I was impressed.

I am hoping we do get a proper introduction to Theon. While he had lines in the episode when they found the direwolves, people were never given the premise of his role.

I understand why we didn't in this first episode: too many characters to keep straight, especially for new viewers.

We should see more of him in the next episode(s).

The next episodes are as follows:

E2 - The Kingsroad
E3 - Lord Snow
E4 - Cripples, Bastards and Broken Things
E5 - The Wolf and the Lion
E6 - A Golden Crown
E7 - You Win or you Die

The second episide airing on Sunday is entitled "The Kingsroad"

So, this is where they all go their separate ways, so fewer of the main characters together and easier to manage from a storyline/script point of view.

I knew you wasn't Mouse - it was more me just realizing who we was. ( I never watched Robin Hood, so I ain't got a clue on that...)

And yup the Dire Wolf cubs were sooo cute.

But he's called Snow, right? (And he was talking to Tyrion....)

:D :D

Ok. Well he wasn't that good in it. ;) He was in something else I saw one episode of (I can't remember what it was called) and I didn't realise it was him. I IMDB'd the character (because I thought he was attractive ) and was slightly disturbed when I saw it was the actor who played Will Scarlett!

TK: I like the sound of episode 4!

However we stray off-topic. Dire-wolf puppies - weren't they just adorable?

YES! I can't wait to see more of those cuddly little fluffballs of joy! Especially when they start turning into everything BUT cuddly little fluffballs of joy. :D

The casting is so strong. To be honest I can't fault any of the actors, even the minor roles seem to be well thought out. Suitably impressed. Can't wait to see Littlefinger either, so good in the Wire.

I'm rereading the books for the third time, and I just finished A Game of Thrones a few days ago. I wasn't sure how that would affect my viewing of the series, but I still really enjoyed the pilot. My husband, who has only read the first book, asked me after the show what grade I would give, and I said B+. He said 'That's it?', so he obviously liked it as well. :)

I share the same thoughts as others have already said. I really think they did a good job with casting overall, but my main concern before the show started was Cersei, and I have to say so far Lena Headey hasn't quite pulled her off for me. And I like Headey as an actress, so I hope as the show goes forward she fits better into the mental picture I have for her. It could just be a case of me having a very developed character in my head, and they had one episode to portray her. I think Emilia Clarke as Dany is excellent, and I'm excited to watch her character grow. Jaime is fine with me, but not as good looking as I think he was described in the books. Tyrion is great, but did anyone think he wouldn't be? And Hello Jon! That's the woman in me talking, but he's mighty easy on the eyes. :) Arya seems spot on as well.

I didn't particularly enjoy the opening, but I'm not sure why. And I wasn't real impressed with what they did about the Dany and Drogo wedding night. Seemed too far from what happened in the book. I thought the added scene with Tyrion in the whorehouse was perfect though. There was more sex and nudity than I was expecting, even for HBO. The dragons eggs looked all wrong to me, but I suppose thats me being nitpicky.

Overall I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next episode. I have read that the first episode was one of the weakest, so I can't wait for the rest.

For all the negative reviews about perverse male fantasy it seems there is some definite eye candy for the women.

Also Rickon (sp?) the youngest Stark, was there standing next to Catelyn when the King arrived at Winterfell. There seemed to be a definite directorial choice to ignore him, though.

Watched it last night, loved it.

Northern Ireland looks well :D

I also spotted my work colleague who did a bit of extra work. The bit when Starks are lined up to meet the king and the shot goes back to the arch way, there's a line of guards. He's the third one in from the arch.

He reckons he's in the next episode in a tavern (he said he got pushed by Sean Beans character) and also at the tournament he was standing behind the king (not sure what episode that's in)
