How will you read ADWD?

(I'd suggest putting a (super)moderator who's not at all interested in ASoIaF on title-renaming watch, but is there one? Is it even possible for there to be such a person?)

As hard as it is to imagine, I actually may be only mod who is a big enough Martin fan to be champing at the bit to get to the Dance. I'm fairly certain that Teresa and TJ have little to no interest in the books, in any case, and I will make mention in the Staff Room for the mods to keep an eye out. I might also start and sticky a dedicated thread a day or so beforehand for discussing the book when it comes out.

When i finally get my copy - hopefully Amazon can get it to me super-quick instead of 4 weeks later... :( ... I'll almost certainly be half-way through before i rest the first time, then zoom through the second half, most likely in about 10 hours... i know how fast i read. (thankfully fast reading (for me) = MAXIMUM retention and notation of subtle and between the lines things). AFFC took me two evenings of reading at about 5 hours each, if ADWD is about the same length, should be a similar time-frame. Also, will be avoiding this forum like the plague till i'm read - then i'll be here to see what others thought - with my copy at hand to re-read any particularly scrutinized parts I just might have missed.

I was thinking of this as well. Do you think GRRM (or someone else perhaps) will provide a suggested reading order for the chapters in AFFC and ADWD? I also would like to read them concurrently, as they were meant to be.
If there is no suggested timeline, I'll just do the same as I did with the Malazan books. I read a section in one book, then read the same time frame in the other, chapter by chapter.

Well July 12 is my birthday! And I'm really hoping that all of my friends have coordinated so I don't end up with seven copies of ADWD. And while I would love nothing more than to sit and READ read read, work duties prevent me, so I'll have to wait until the evenings to do it. But so long as I have a streamline of caffeine, I can probably push through the nights. (And regret it later, but that's beside the point.)

Thanks for that, Cul. :)

I'm in the same boat as Ursa and several others, having got my pre-order with Waterstones in place. I'll do everything I can to be there on the day to pick it up.

However, despite once having said I'd have a 'Boaz Day' to read the book, the fact is I tend to read pretty slow, especially when there's a lot of dialogue involved (I have to savour every beat, every nuance when I like something this much). Plus, I tend to absorb the information much better at a slower pace.

Bottom line then, it'll take at least a week for me, maybe even two, and as Ursa and Cul have pointed out, spoilers can leak into thread titles and be apparent even in the Chrons' main index. One mans subtle hint is another mans dead giveaway, so I think I'll have to avoid chronning altogether. :(

I, too, will be slowly savouring this massive tome. Which means, no chronnning for Clansman.

Apart from finishing the first book, when I get to ADWD I will command it to appear on my Kindle once my credit card has been deducted. Then GRRM can sleep soundly as a little bit of money flowed into his account and then he can wake up feeling refreshed and write good stories with a clearer mind. I am glad to contribute...hehe...:D
