Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Brilliant Culhwch, that is much better, now I can see the Aurora and everything. Thannk you.

Ok, now to stare at that image until it is ingrained into my subconscious so I can dream about it and come up with a story ;)

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Kudos to Fuzzy on another excellent image. One of his other works is currently my desktop background (with permission, of course).
Normally I'm curious about what stories others produce. This month, for both, I can't wait to see what gets written.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Interesting...

I write quite prolifically on another forum where the prompts are all words of phrases, but never pictures. I look forward to dipping my toe!

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

It would appear both contests this month will feature Sci-fi tales. Should be interesting. Never tried mind hand at writing science fiction. But I find I'm actually wildly inspired for both this and the seventy fiver!

Well, in many ways sci fi is easier, and in some ways tougher.

I prefer fantasy myself as well, but, this challenge should be fairly easy, and I don't think Mosaix' will be all that tough either. I'm still thinking stuff up for them, but I should definitely get stuff in this month. :)

Mods, I must say you chose a good picture this time. I'm suspecting there to be a few topics, perhaps hashed over multiple times, but good regardless. :)

Hey, mister, are you saying it was a bad picture last time, eh? Don't make me come over there. ;)

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Yeah, Karn you'd better watch it, the last thing you want is an angry mouse running up your trouser leg... trust me I know*

*Although in my case it was a rat, but less said about that the better...

I can't work out which mental image is funnier. :D

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Great picture, my limited creative juices are already working overtime and I promise no notes...ho ho!

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

What's scary is that three months have already passed. Someone needs to clamp that damn' winged chariot.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Here with a bit of time before my flight out of Boston to Seattle I thought I'd check in on these challenges since I've taken 8-9 weeks out of them while traveling. Thought I'd just say a couple of things if I may:

1) I really like the prize for the challenge. It's a really nice gesture and I commend whoever is behind it.

2) I love the pic for this challenge - I love Fuzzy Modem's work.

I head back home on Tuesday so I look forward to participating in this one!

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Fuzzy Modem? Isn't he the king of Enterprise design.:)

I think I know his name!

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Loving the picture.

Loving the things it causes to swirl around in my mind.

Loving the fact that at least one of my OSes is Linux and has Compiz installed with a built in magnifying feature so I can scroll over the image section by section to really pick out the juicy details. :p

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Well, keep in mind that if you pick up some tiny details that others can't see and you build your story around those, the voters may wonder what your entry has to do with the inspiration picture.

Of course if you want to see all the details in order to better appreciate how remarkable the artwork is, the painting well rewards that kind of attention!

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Indeed it does. I have a couple rough ideas of what to come up with, but a week and a half is a nice amount of time to come up with something good and concrete. :)

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Just going to sleep tonight with no idea what to write, but as I was nodding off had a touch of inspiration and spent the last 2 hours writing it up. So rather than being fast asleep for midnight I'm on the forum typing this!

Glad there aren't any entries allowed until the 10th which gives me time enough to polish it up, otherwise I would probably do what I normally do and post 'as is'. Which I guess is the point of having a 10 day ruling.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

The dang beam of light is whats causing me the most grief.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

You don't have to write a story explaining the picture you know.

Ya, I understand but this months picture is not just one item where you can run crazy, its more of a landscape. The picture involves some type of city and if you leave that city out there is a large chance that people won't make the connection to the picture. If I did a story from an air/spacecraft, which you can see in the picture, it probably be harder to catch and connections made.

Not saying its bad, just needs extra thought.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

I wonder if it's almost going to turn out like a shared world sort of project, with people all writing stories about what's happening in the same place. Probably not, since people's conception of what the place is will differ, but I love that idea!
