Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

I am in the same boat ...

We're gonna need a bigger boat! Seems there's enough of us on board to throw a party, so let's do that.

The moment I saw the picture it reminded me of an idea I'd worked on a few years back, but I'm determined not to go the same route. Trouble is, the other two or three ideas I have just don't seem to want to fly at the moment. Lots of extremely good entries to follow in the wake of too...

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Wow, finally had time to catch up, and that's an impressive start. Great ideas, diverse as always, going to be tough to call already.

I have an idea, but it needs some serious tightening, if there was 3000 words then maybe I'd be ok.

3000? That's not tightening. That's taking a chainsaw to it.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Well, that's my effort in - lot's of stiff competition so far. Great fun reading them all - so many different ideas.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Wowser! You guys are amazing!!!

I've just read what's there so far and I am thoroughly impressed. There are a few there that are my favourites... so far! But I can't wait to see what else gets posted before voting commences :D

I'd love to have even half the skills you each have... but instead will just bow to your mastery!

So... *takes a bow* I bow and applaude you all! Bravo, bravo, bravo!!! :D

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Enough bowing, Missy. Get typing your own entry.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Eeeek... I cannae do it Cap... Alchemist!

Although I will admit to giving it a try! Alas, my attempts make 'Spot the Dog' seem like the most intellectual reading option available :D

Now, I've nothing against 'Spot', but darn that dog for being a better writer than me!!! :p;)

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

I've just read Highlander's fine entry and noticed that it's very similar to one of the two I've written. Fortunately, it's the less favoured one of the two, so I might get away with it. I suppose this is inevitable, really. I just hope nobody gets near the other one.

It's all right to have "favourites" plural, as in the three hundred word poll we have triple votes (give a thought for the poor mod who gets to set it up).

So, when voting comes around and you do your Chronical duty, you only have to shave it down to a short list of three.

One of the reasons I got in early is that somebody else might have noticed it was very obviously a laser launcher, and the picture wasn't a city at all, but a launch pad; and then I'd have had to find another raison d'être.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Up until now, I've been waiting for the focus group to get back to me. They're redundant now, which is their own fault for being so tardy.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Thanks for the thumbs up Alchemist - hope your other story isn't captured by others.

And Chris, same as you, the light immediately suggested "space transport elevator." It was probably reinforced as I had been reading (or rather re-reading) AC Clarke/ & Frederick Pohl's book "The Last Theorem" where a space elevator was constructed and anchored to Sri Lanka...

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

I've decided to post my story now for two reasons, the first being that it's only a matter of time before someone does something similar (although it's likely some have already thought of it and rejected it!), and secondly because there's a huge slab of a book that'll be eating up equally huge chunks of my free time.

More pertinently, great to see Leisha gracing the competition with her usual excellence! Also very much liking Southron Sword's anachronistic interpretation (to say nothing of the many other superb entries).

Cheers Buddy. Yours was a good read. I assume that huge slab is Dance?

Cheers right back atcha!

And of course it's Dance :D (200+ pages and seems to be getting better with every chapter). Speaking of which, I'll be off for more in just a minute.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

It's a slow month for stories (although the quality of the stories so far is amazing!). The last time we ran this Challenge, there were over 40 entries, but this time it looks like we will be lucky if we even reach 30.

Some of us (and that includes me) need to get writing!

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

I blame those dancing dragons. Still, I'm sure they'll all be finished reading in another few days.

I'll post mine soon. Oh, wait, mosaix has put one up. No, I'm not posting after him.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Well, I've not had a sniff of an idea yet. But I have a week to go before I need to panic.

All good stories again this time, but it does seem to me they're a bit more constrained than last quarter. With the clock tower it acted as an inspiration and people went off in all different directions. Here it's almost as if everyone feels the need to explain the picture.

I shall try to be contrary and not explain it (mainly because I can't...)

EDIT: Typical. I posted here before reading mosaix's entry. I can't even be original in my contrariness now...

I have narrowed it down to one idea and a possible storyline. Now I need to decide on the format. I don't know why but I am feeling experimental this month and feel that the proper style can make or break things for me.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

I'm not happy posting after slack either, but what the hey. If I don't post it now, I'll probably break my leg or something, and have to call alchemissus and talk her through getting my laptop password and posting for me and blah blah blah.

I'll just put it up now.
